Now worried about holiday, as intending to leave Dc's in room while we eat...

we're going to villa Pia (as recommende on MN) where children eat early and then go to bed and parents eat later all together.

This seemed a great idea to me before.

but now obviously with tragic and frightening abduction of Madeleine, it's playing on my mind and feel we cannot do this.

Are any others having such dilemmas? what should we think/do??

Yes 4/5 nights would be fine.

Mellowma, if you fill in the booking request form on the website (you don't need to give dates at the moment) the e-mail comes straight through to us.

I agree Peachy, that an adult only meal/drink is only acheivable if you feel totally confident that the chilren are safe. That's why I started the thread, what felt safe last week for me, no longer feels so safe.

People did seem to taking the line 'We like to have all our meals with our children on holiday, why would you want to eat without them? why bother having them, holidays are different now,etc etc'

My post was to respond that to me some adult time is actually enjoyable and therefore desirable IF you can acheive it with the children safe and happy.

Peachy - I have to say that from what I have seen the SN kids can get a brilliant deal from somewhere like MW. Last time we were there there were a brother and sister who had one to one care from 2 nannies during clubhours, and they were taken swimming, sailing etc. When they were sailing there were 2 adults per child - at least one the children was usually in a wheelchair, but again access around the gorunds didn't seem a huge issue. I guess it all depends on the precise nature of the SN, and any other limitations. Due to the level of care they weren't always in with the other children in the clubs though ~ I think that they would have been for some sessions.

In terms of the room listening, it does vary between resort by the way. In Corsica a nanny was positioned all the time on each corridor and would formally listen at and check off each door every 15 minutes, so in event of nightmares, fire etc there would be an adult nearby, as well as the walkie talkies to get back-up/parents quickly.

I wasn't taking any line but suggesting a solution to the feelings you feel. I like eating with my kids too (my DS is a pain the but over food and generally plays us like a violin at mealtimes) but when you feel as you do then are you going to enjoy your meal anyway?

PeachyChocolateEClair · 08/05/2007 16:13

Now see the corridors thing would be OK, at least for ds2.

The Sn flexibility sounds good, wouldn't work for us with the boys but its good to know there are options there, I suspect the SN mums find that even more valuable.

nailpolish · 08/05/2007 16:39

s/c is cheaper anyway fio for us poor people

expatinscotland · 08/05/2007 16:47

I agree, naily. No fridge? Where are we going to keep DH's beer and my wine for the evenings after the kids go to bed?

I also like to store my body spray and perfume in there for those hot days. DD1 loved to come home from the days out and be spritzed.

My dad loved our SC last year. Because it had Sky and he could watch Mexico play in the World Cup of an evening.

With beer, of course!

Oh, and a BBQ in the back.

Yes.

expatinscotland · 08/05/2007 16:47

SC rules!

Roll on, June! Off to Nairn for some SC.

oh i forgot, Mrs TwoChristmasTrees

have you taken them down yet?

expatinscotland · 08/05/2007 16:49

DH has never been there and nor have I.

We already planning the menu, and for the picnic menu as well.

Can't wait to be back out in the sticks. Miles from nowhere.

MrsSpoon · 08/05/2007 16:50

Mellowma, you've made DH's day, he did the website himself.

NP, yes the blue dates are booked already (in fact it's us in October). We were there last October and the weather was fantastic, we were there for about 10 days and eight of those days we had amazing weather, two days it was a bit so, so. Some days you could still be on the beach at 7pm, it was great. A plus point about the area is that there are the two seas, I personally love the Med and there is a long white Medeteranian beach on the strip however the Med is where you are going to feel it if it is windy but you can go to one of the countless beaches on the Mar Menor where the water is much warmer (safe, shallow waters for the kids) and the beaches more sheltered.

nailpolish · 08/05/2007 16:54

at you taking th eoctober holiday

would you take bookings over xmas? am looking for an escape from FIL

i suppose the weather is crap at xmas tho'

MrsSpoon · 08/05/2007 17:01

Sorry NP , will your oldest DD be at School next year? Are you tied to the School hols? We would take a booking over x-mas. As far as I am aware the x-mas flights haven't been released yet (with the cheap airlines) however that would give you a better chance at getting the flights at their cheapest.

I've never been at x-mas but have friends who have an apartment out there too and they have been once. They said it was still nice (very quiet), and they had a few evening meals sitting out in the sun, obviously not as hot as other times of the year they did need jeans, sweatshirts, cardis and things.

Aloha · 08/05/2007 17:02

Oh, you lucky lucky people whose children will A/ have siestas and b/be fine in the evening after a sleep.

I would do it a villa pia. Even now.
