Link to the 2014 Legoland thread

Please ask away, and feel free to add your own hints and tips and reviews! Legoland is daunting, esp for parents going on their own so any tips and hints are much appreciated.

None of the regular posters on this thread are employees or associated with Legoland, we are mostly local parents with Annual passes and know the place very well as its our local playground.

Happy Legolanding!

Off the top of my head, the things inside are;

Cinema - Sit in the middle block, half way up to get the best experience.

Imagination centre - Build anything you like from Lego. Near this is also a room where you can pick a little lego set to build with the instructions.

The X box room.

Starwars exhibition.

Olivas house has big rubber lego bricks to build with, an exhibit of the Lego Friends sets, a small area to build your own lego robot, a TV with Lego friends episodes, a sink where you can virtually wash up and some funny mirrors. We've been in there three times now and never spent more than 10 minutes in there.

We tend to head to the area where the imagination centre is, that way the kids can build until the rain stops/eases and the cinema is also in that area.

The queues for log flume and the dragon are under cover so thats always an option as well.

Thank you HRH that's very useful. :)

We went yesterday, it rained for the first few hours but didn't spoil our day. We were well wrapped up and as we were soaking we went on all the wet rides after driving school, went in the splash park (well we were wet!) Then went back to car got changed used umbrellas until sun came out. The plus side of it raining meant the queues were shorter. The only downfall was the laser raiders, really wasn't worth the 30 minute wait.
We went to driving school straightaway and again at 5pm, both times there was only a ten minute wait if even!
Even though I aimed for 930, it ended up being 10.15, there were no queues to get in, just walked up and bought the tickets :) I had one of the kellogs vouchers and think the prices are very expensive without them if you only manage 8 rides (we went on a bit more but didn't stop for lunch)
Took the advice of going home the other way and it worked out perfect :) thanks for all the tips.
P.S. panning for gold is £3.50, the medal is cute and heavy :)

Any recommendations of places to eat after 5 when the park closes. We are heading north M25/M1 but want to eat before we hit m25 at rush hour!

HRHQueenMe · 01/06/2015 20:48

Hermione, Loch Fyne in Woodside Ascot is 5 mins upp the road (turn right out of the park. Lively and child friendly.
Also in Old Windsor the Fox and Castle has a big playground but average food.
Fifield inn is an option, as is the Greene Oak in Oakley Green.

HermioneWeasley · 01/06/2015 22:51

Great minds HRH! I'm afraid I didn't see you post, but we pulled into Loch Fyne on the way out. We really lowered the tone!

Smooshface · 02/06/2015 10:04

Which is the best car park to park for exiting? I'm guessing A, as we parked in D and oh my gosh just the back of the queue... 1 hour 20 minutes from space to roundabout!

Watch out for the water bit on the lego friends train! (or sit on the right hand side!)

Had a fab day, but you really do have to get the Q-bot, I can't imagine queuing for 30+ minutes for some of those rides! (especially the dino train, how tiny was that!)

Hello, love this thread, thank you so much to all the regular visitors for your helpful posts!

We're planning to visit for the first time on wednesday 17th June, with DCs age 5,3, and 10 weeks. Its an inset day here for school.

Some questions:

(1) Does anyone know if its an inset day locally too? Hoping it won't be too busy being a weekday.

(2) How expensive is it to buy lego there? DCs have a bit of money saved from xmas and birthdays to spend, I know DD will go straight for the Frozen Castle set if she sees it, its £30 to £35 online, will it be similar price there?

(3) How have people found breastfeeding there? I try to be discreet but baby prefers a more ostentatious approach and pulls covers off! Are there quite a few benches around to sit on, or should I bring a collapsible chair to sit on in queues?

Smooshface · 02/06/2015 13:08

Frozen castle was around that price in the shop, I had a nose at it as I hadn't seen it before! (I thought it was £30 but looking at online store it says £34.99 so I would expect it to be that)

PandasRock · 02/06/2015 13:15

Lego is standard retail, price in the shop. So could be a fair bit cheaper in Amazon, depending on which set. Annual pass gives you 10% discount, I think, but can't collect lego VIP points as it isn't a 'proper' lego shop Hmm

Someone up thread was wondering about photo passes - there is a photo package they sell, which is at a discount (eg 1 photo for £10, but package of 5 for £25 - not real prices, just an example) which is usable across the whole season. We got one, and used 3 of the photos that day, and have it to use on further visits.

HRHQueenMe · 02/06/2015 19:05

Sooty I have breastfed at LL for years, have 3 little ones very tight together , and have had nothing but smiles from staff and visitors, and met some lovely fellow mums who have shared a bench with me feeding. My fave spot is by the helicopters, secluded and cool, top of drivingschool is another nice spot, but you will find plenty of nice places to sit! Lots to look at! Have a great time and come back and tell us how your day went! X

Going on Sunday, can't afford Qbits for 4 of us. What can we do without Qbots? Can you get into shows and other areas eg minland without them?

HRHQueenMe · 04/06/2015 15:53

Surviving LL without Qbots.
(Dont...do get one!!) but if you have to heres the lowdown.
Right hand park is mostly thrillrides, and gets much busier thanthe left which is mostly aimed at little ones.
The busiest rides with the longest queues are all in pirate land and knights kingdom plus Atlantis and Raftracers.
Shortest queues are in duplo land, dino safari, fairytale brook sometimes spinning spider, etc.
All shows have no queues and the 4D cinema has a short wait.
The new ride in Heartlake city is not widely known and has had short queues in the morning so might be a good one to head for first followed by the train to give you a nice overview of the park. Miniland takes a good hour of looking, and the Star Wars has no queues at all. Have fun!

Hi all,

So glad to have found this thread. We are going for the first time in July. Have two DSs, 7 and 5.

Are there things built of lego to look at? I know that's what my two are after rather than the rides so much. They want to see big stuff built out of lego!!

We are going on a Saturday in term time mid July. Is it going to be terrible?

We are from Devon so are staying at the Heathrow Premiere Inn. How long will it take to get from there to the park? And I should be there at 9am right?

Need to get my buggy out!

DebbieFiderer · 04/06/2015 17:30

There are loads of things made of Lego! Miniland is the main one - it is brilliant, but there are also other models all over the place.

A Saturday in July will be busy, but if you aren't fussed about the rides you will still have a good day. I would work out which rides you do want to do and head to them first (Boating School, Driving School, Atlantis are the classic ones to head to, Atlantis in particular has underwater Lego models). Do a few smaller rides until the queues start to build up, then head to Miniland or Duplo Valley to look around/play. If you can stay to the end of the day, the queues start to ease off again from about 4pm so you might be able to get in a few more rides then.

I don't know for certain about the travel, but I would imagine it would take about half an hour or less from Heathrow; if you leave by 8.30 you should be fine.

hairhelpplease · 04/06/2015 18:51

We are staying at Windsor travelodge. Any recommendations for somewhere for tea for me and DS who will be 7?

HRHQueenMe · 04/06/2015 19:55

Windsor travellodge is smack bang in the middle of town soyou have loads of great places! Esp in the old station you have Bills, and GBK burgers Carluccios etc. Daniels upstairs does great breakfast, so does Bills. Lots ofcoffee shops and shops. Daniels has a massive toyshop upstairs to look at! Have fun!

peachy Heathrow would normally be about 30 mins, but I'd leave 8/8.15 as the traffic getting there can be slow, you need to park, walk to the entrance etc, definitely 8am if you're buying tickets on th day

hairhelpplease · 05/06/2015 06:23

Thanks HRH.

christmasmum · 06/06/2015 21:02

So glad I stumbled across this thread! Got lots of great tips but a few quick questions if anyone knows...We're going for the first time on 7-9th July (Tuesday to Thursday during Scottish school holidays) and we're staying in the hotel. How busy does it normally get mid week in July? Are there lots of school groups there at this time of year? Is it mini Scotland too?!

PlayingHouse · 07/06/2015 08:22

I went mid July last year and yes, it was full of school groups.

HermioneWeasley · 07/06/2015 09:13

There is Scotland in mini land

HRHQueenMe · 07/06/2015 11:33

School groups galore and all of Europe is on holiday so half of them will be joining you there. To make the most of your day do get a qbot!!!

OP posts:
christmasmum · 07/06/2015 23:35

Righto, qbot it is!

kpie · 07/06/2015 23:57

Oooooh!! We're going on Wednesday, very excited now - thanks for the tips. Do you think it will be quiet or into the madness of school trips?
