Mine would be Annandale Water, on the M74 near Lockerbie. A lovely spot.

Do people really have favourite service stations?

They all look the same to me

cjbk1 · 16/11/2014 15:51

Mine is The Magical Kingdom of South Mimms Wink

Tobagostreet · 16/11/2014 15:52

Definitely not all the same.

Tebay/Westmoreland Farm Shop on the M74 is defacto the very best (Southbound being a tiny bit better than Northbound).

Independent rather than a massive chain, and farm fresh produce in both the shop and the restaurants/kiosks.

MrsHathaway · 16/11/2014 15:53

Beaconsfield - brilliant food court model, had lovely noodles.

Tebay - lovely. Bit pricey but the DC like the ducks.

If you travel much by road you prefer some services to others, of course! Some are awful - dirty, badly laid out, nothing I like eating.

OpenSandwich · 16/11/2014 15:56

They are not all the same at all. I never have good experiences on the M6 south of Stafford.

Tebay is the best by a mile.

Corley is our usual stop on M6 going south

Lozzapops · 16/11/2014 16:01

Oh yes, I love South Mimms (as much as one can love a motorway service station).

OpenSandwich · 16/11/2014 16:02

The M74 seems to be a services sweet-spot!

Where on earth is SOuth Mimms?

I was a huge fan of service stations as a kid Blush

I'd make my parents try out different ones so I could check out the toilet facilities.

I've never been as happy as I was when my dad's job moved him to Leicester forest east. I loved visiting him there and using his discount in the restaurant. He always bought home mini jams and honey from the restaurant too. There was always loads of them in the larder.

DS1 enjoys service stations now. Takes after his old mum.

BikeRunSki · 16/11/2014 16:08

Gloucester Northbound. Same owners as Tebay, complete with White Stuff, Joules and Seasalt clothes for sale in the shop!

BikeRunSki · 16/11/2014 16:09

Although if Gloucester is not handy, I like Hoptin Park as it has a playground and is exactly halfway between home near Leeds and my mum in Somerset.

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 16/11/2014 16:10

Tebay, although we use the northbound far more often than the southbound.

It's the only service station I've been to that seems to have a soul.

georgedawes · 16/11/2014 16:10

Tebay but it is expensive!

Yddraigoldragon · 16/11/2014 16:11

I spend far too much time in services.. Membury on the M4 is grotty, toilets always smell :( However it does have a drive through Starbucks so no need to stop..
Annandale is indeed lovely, always make a point of stopping there if we are passing.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 16/11/2014 16:14

Another vote for Beaconsfield

Sparklingbrook · 16/11/2014 16:17

OMG Membury dragon. It is the worst service station ever. i am still traumatised from a trip there this year.

Hopwood Services on the M42 is very nice. It used to be our local KFC many years ago and we took the DC there just for that. Blush

IsabellaofFrance · 16/11/2014 16:20

Leicester Forest East, but only because it normally means we are nearly home after a long trip to visit my family.

OpenSandwich · 16/11/2014 16:21

So many I haven't yet had the pleasure of!

DH likes the look of the one with the weird tower. Lancaster? But we've not managed to stop there ever.

DuchessofKirkcaldy · 16/11/2014 16:22

Tebay/ Westmorland.
We call Annandale water "duck services" as we always stop to feed the ducksSmile

mkmjimmy · 16/11/2014 16:23

Tebay! Fantastic shop, food that is freshly cooked and tasty.and ducks.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/11/2014 16:24

Reading on the M4 - or Leigh Delamere, either direction.

QueenofLouisiana · 16/11/2014 16:25

I avoid the services if I can, we skip off the A1 to Woolsthorpe Manor for tea/ loos rather than use the services.
However, I like the Baie de Somme in Northern France it's beautiful.

Playdoughcaterpillar · 16/11/2014 16:26

Isabella!
Leicester forest east is probably one of the worst, keep driving if nearly home!

IsabellaofFrance · 16/11/2014 16:27

I don't stop Grin. Although we did once and DS2 has an amazing time running across the bridge above the M1.
