Mine would be Annandale Water, on the M74 near Lockerbie. A lovely spot.

It’s got to be The M25 Cobham Service Station

There must be many struck by the beauty, the elegance, the flowing sweep of the access roads and stirred to write lyrical

Oh, to be stopping
Now it’s open there,
And whoever is shopping
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest prices of the burgers (beef)
Eaten by fountains after bathroom relief,
While the chaffinch sings on the new trees bough
In Cobham Motorway Service Station now!!

Oh I live near tebay and never go as too near home so cross my legs till I get home.
Need a ride out to check it out now c

RiojaHaze · 16/11/2014 17:46

Love Leigh Delamere and also Fleet, just because I live miles away from there but always see someone I know when I stop there!

SweetestThing · 16/11/2014 17:51

Tebay northbound, for all the reasons already given, plus once you leave there, you drive through the beautiful Lake District and then the signs change from saying "The North" to "Scotland"

myrtleWilson · 16/11/2014 17:52

tebay! I drove there deliberately on my birthday this year as I wanted to buy some Falconware trays and I knew the shop sold them. 3hr round trip!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/11/2014 17:57

If you're in the Charnock Richard vicinity, give it a miss and go to Brockholes Nature Reserve right by J31, great cafe, great play areas and walks, lovely place. Not at this time of night I guess though.

Tebay by a long way for me of the proper service stations.

I agree Annandale Water is a fabulous setting, but sometimes we've been there and it's been rammed with people, loads of tables piled up with dirty crockery, etc and just grim.

I've always wanted to stop at Lancaster Services to go up the tower, but as it's only just north of Brockholes and we always stop there it's probably not going to happen.

OpenSandwich · 16/11/2014 17:58

dan that's beautiful.

I wouldn't go to charnock Richard unless really desperate!

OpenSandwich · 16/11/2014 18:15

Thankfully it cleared, we're pressing on!

Gloucester is related to Tebay. I thought it was better

FreudiansSlipper · 16/11/2014 18:26

I was very impressed with the ones in Italy. Even small motorway service stations had the most amazing deli's lots of hams and cheese waiting to be made into a wonder sundwich and wonderful coffee

and one on the costal road from LA to San Francisco just the views were amazing

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/11/2014 18:29

yy Millie, Sarn services is horrid. Port Abraham is ok.

On the M4, wherever there is Costa, there's the 'pirate' shack outside, (I don't know what it's called) but it's the best coffee ever. It's £2.89 but for £2.99 you can have a bacon roll as well. They sell pasties there but they're not my thing.

DoughnutSelfie · 16/11/2014 18:38

yy Tebay

Pease Cottage I thought sweet but this was years ago

Purplecircle · 16/11/2014 18:39

Cobham
Tebay
Gloucester
Hopton Park

AmIthatHot · 16/11/2014 18:42

I was coming on to say Annandale Water. But Tebay is good too. Stopped at both many times too and from Manchester

sparkle101 · 16/11/2014 18:42

Fleet on the m3!!! Highlight of going to see my sister in Exeter. Sorry sis!!!

OpenSandwich · 16/11/2014 18:46

I could murder a bacon roll.

Bloody hell - Beaconsfield's near us, I'm off to check it out! :-0

ArsenicSoup · 16/11/2014 18:49

Oh my goodness, I don't have a favourite service station. Should I have?

Sparklingbrook · 16/11/2014 18:54

I have a close relative in the Chalfonts. I will come with you Puss. Smile

Skinheadmermaid · 16/11/2014 19:00

Beaconsfield. It means our looong journey home is almost over- and theres a valerie pattesserie.
All the services starbucks and costa make awful coffee, its quite disapointing.
My mum went through a phase years back of driving to south mimms everyday to have her daily cappachino. She even bought me clothes from there.
Confused

cjbk1 · 16/11/2014 19:08

iwouldgoouttonight · 16/11/2014 19:10

I can't believe reading a thread on MN has made me want to visit a service station, but I am very tempted by this Tebay of which you all speak.

I was just going to say that they all seem as bad as each other with their odd stalls selling leather items and little fruit machine booths, for when you just can't drive any further without a quick gamble.

South Mimms has always been a bit strange when we've stopped there. Once it was full of people dressed as clowns. Confused

PotteringAlong · 16/11/2014 19:11

I have a soft spot for weatherby services!

ArgyMargy · 16/11/2014 19:12

Cobham - still new enough to be almost clean.
