link to the 2013 thread here

Starting afresh for the new season! The new pirate playground is not yet built (what have they been doing all winter????) but the park has been pruned and tidied and looked lovely yesterday! Xbox room is still closed as well.

The new Pirate Captain Birdsnest is a bit more of an eyecandy man for us mums than last years young man, so thats an improvement, and the lovely pirate Georgie is back in all her glory, still as charming as ever!

Please add your hints and tips, and there is a few of us LL regulars who come on here and will happily answer all your questions!!

Lastly, there is a new burger joint under construction, so that will be a great improvement (as long as they keep the prices reasonable). The coffeeshop in the harbour still does great latte!

Enjoy!

There are lots of fun rides for kids of all ages, its hard to suggest which ones to go for!
If You have a qbot its easier but if you havent then i would start with the one your kids really want, ie for older kids leg it to knights kingdom and do the rollercoasters, for younger kids do Atlantis and boating school first then work back. Dont fall into the trap of doing the first ride you see first with the million other people.

Marks place!

wellthatsdoneit · 10/04/2014 19:09

Thanks HRH. Just debating whether to get Qbots, although it will more than double the price I'm paying to get in. But, only there for one day, not likely to go back for eons and eons, will be pretty stressful if it's very busy.....
Perhaps I should buy Qbots on the day? Or will there be a massive queue for that too?! I will have to buy a full price child ticket on the day as am using a kelloggs voucher for me to get in free (and Tesco clubcard points my other dc).

I've been reading the 2013 thread which has got loads of great advice.

Do you recommend pre-paying for carpark? Will that save much time?

worriedsick100 · 11/04/2014 11:23

I have a quite grown up 7 and 8 year old. Are they going to find legoland a bit dull?

HRHQueenMe · 11/04/2014 15:49

Qbots are well worth the money, they take all the stress out of your day. No queing for ages and you maximize your time. Worth every penny in my opinion.
A 7/8 year old will not find LL dull. If they like lego they will love it. Rides are more fun than scary but the 4d cinema is fun, and if they like Starwars the starwars miniland will thrill them!:)

Returned from our legoland trip today. Large glass of vodka, lime & soda currently been inhaled. Overall we had a fantastic but exhausting day.

To recap - I went with DH, DS and 3 of his classmates for my son's 5th birthday. We live in SW London. I thought I'd add my tips for the day although tbh it all pretty much falls in line with the 2013/2014 thread.

We drove to & from legoland via the alternative route. It is very scenic and the traffic moved quickly. There are yellow signposts although some creep up on you. I would do that again.

We arrived for 9.30am. It was relatively quiet. Went via Guest Services where you can collect a birthday badge which my son liked as all the staff then made a fuss of him.

I hadn't got Qbots in advance as really begrudge the idea of paying for that on top of tickets. However, we had to balance that against the fact we were only there for one day and with 4 five year olds it was unlikely to be a full day too. DH turned to me at the outset and announced "I've made an executive decision - we're buying Qbots". It was completely the right choice and I wouldn't go again without them. I don't like the principle but it just means you can relax enjoy your day. Otherwise the queues for the main rides looked around 45 mins. For each ride. We had to buy 6 Qbots as the regular ones don't shorten the queuing time so if we'd shared this between us then we couldn't have all gone on the rides at the same time and there would have been a 30 min gap. If you don't have the Qbot there are other stuff to do like carousel, swinging chairs etc but sort of not what Legoland is about.

Anyway, on arrival, we queued left and then walked down the hill straight for Atlantis. Go there first to avoid the queues. Don't bother with the train down, the walk is nice and there are slides along the way.

The favourite rides were the Dragon (quite grown up) and Atlantis. Did Atlantis twice. Most rides good and only disappointing one was the Digger.

Miniland was looking good and great for a picnic and some quiet time. We didn't manage Duplo splash towers but it looked amazing. Unless very warm, I'd second wetsuits as others have recommended.

Shame that castaway camp playground wasn't opened yet. Boys would have loved that.

Had packed lunch whilst watching the Pirate Show. This was good. Didn't spend 1p on food or drink all day which was satisfying given that it looked typically average and overpriced.

We left at 4pm. Frankly by that point the little people were exhausted. But I've also heard too many bad stories re leaving the carpark from 5-6.30 and I had to factor in that we would be hitting the m4 on Friday late afternoon.

Would I go again? Yes but only if I had the Merlin annual pass to soften the blow of the Qbot.

wellthatsdoneit · 12/04/2014 19:11

Have pre-booked the Qbots but am now panicking about our entry. Was planning on using Tesco club vouchers for one child (have already ordered and printed out the entry voucher), then paying for the other dc at the gate and me using an 'adult goes free' voucher for me. Will that work ok? Am having a panic that the Tesco voucher says its only to be used by the person named, which is me as I own the clubcard.

We'll be coming from Putney (not where we normally live) - any suggestions on the best way to get there and how long it will take on a Saturday morning?

Gibber.

Runningtrainers · 12/04/2014 20:24

We are considering going at the end of the month on a week day.

Really can't work out what's the cheapest way to get in... Anyone fancy trying to help me work it out? Thanks

We are a family of 2 adults and 2 DC (8&7).
Dh is a full time career and is able to have free entry.
We have tesco vouchers, but would rather save for RAC, but will use if needed.
I have 2 child goes free vouchers.
Both DC have a blue peter badge and card.

We only need a 1 day ticket as we will travelling south for DD therapy afterwards. TIA

I would like to comment on a visit to Legoland last summer. It was hell. Absolute hell. Wasps. Nests everywhere (and obvious even to the untrained eye), we were attacked at every angle, in the food, crawling all over food inside plastic covers, floating in slush machines, in the play areas, even inside. We stopped for a drink when we entered the park as we had had a long journey and H killed five that were crawling on toys in a children's play area. We saw a tiny baby in a pram being stung. We left after an hour and would have been extremely upset had the tickets not been free. This time of the year shouldn't be too bad to be fair, although have had a lot of wasps in my garden over the last week or two due to the decent weather. I was annoyed that there were no warnings on the website, my (then) husband has an allergy and we literally couldn't risk it. It ruined what should have a been a lovely day. I know that you can't account for "nature" but the pest control was severely lacking and it was one huge disappointment simply because of that.

HRHQueenMe · 12/04/2014 22:53

Wellthatsdoneit, dont panic! Tesco voucher will be fine, just explain how you want to pay it. If there are queues to pay there are often staff who queuecomb for people with vouchers so you could swap your tesco voucher there and then and just queue for the others.
Running I am not to good with the vouchers hopefully someone else will know!:)
MrsC i remember the wasps they were vile, it was actioned and signs put up and it got better. I havent seen any wasps this year but Im sure LL will deal with it again.

Thanks HRH, am really looking forward to it and I know my ds especially will be madly excited once he knows where we're going.

twainiac · 14/04/2014 00:59

Hi all, am planning a trip at the end of April. Have been many times before, but always with a buggy so have had a place to store coats, sun cream, picnic , drinks etc. however, we have got rid of our buggy as kids older now - so what do I do with all our stuff? I really don't want to be lugging it around in a bag. Would I look an idiot with a wheelie bag? What does everyone else do???

tiredandsadmum · 14/04/2014 01:20

Well, I have just bought Merlin annual passes for Ds and I with Tesco (£50 each). I normally buy just LL annual passes. These are £28 this year in tesco vouchers, so I will take DS to the London eye as well so that made the merlin one better value.

I last went 2 years ago and really had a bad visit so complained. funnily enough the diggers was one area I complained about back then so sorry to hear it had not improved. Looking forward to the pirate show (as always!!). The food was not good (the pasta place over by the pirate show) so will do limited lunch with a big meal elsewhere in the evening.

I normally stay at the Macdonald hotel in Windsor (again I use tesco vouchers). The hotel is lovely, walking distance to all the restaurants by the station and you are close to the castle if you want an alternative to LL.

thank you for the other tips.

PeanutPatty · 14/04/2014 20:04

My friends with older kids eg 6+ take a buggy just for all their gear. Nobody bats an eyelid!

Rowgtfc72 · 15/04/2014 23:01

Due to go sat 26 the April so still Easter time. Not getting q bots, driving four hours there and back same day. Dd is seven and likes big rides,we are taking a picnic.
Any tips or is this going to be hell?!

girliefriend · 16/04/2014 10:12

Hi am going to Legoland tomorrow!! My dd has just told me we have to take our swimming costumes for a waterpark bit?! Please tell me she is wrong Grin

mummytime · 16/04/2014 10:24

There is a wet bit, swimming costume and towel for your DD, I've never needed to get wet (its water that squirts up from the ground).
BUT be careful about relaxing there as it is the only place I have lost my children at LL, and I have 3 times collected them from a member of staff walking to the lost child place and at least twice had to go to the lost child place.

ChippyMinton · 17/04/2014 10:52

Just bumping this to say please use the signed alternative routes that have been put in place for this weekend. Avoid M4 / junction 6 as you are likely to spend half the day sitting in a queue.

HRHQueenMe · 17/04/2014 11:30

ROWT it will be fine! Get there early, head straight down to the knights kingdom and do the rollercoasters first to beat the queues then work your way back up! The Viking splash ride gets quieter early afternoon as everyone heads down the hill so can be done later. Most people do it first as its the first ride you see, so it cloggs up instantly, when the rest of the park is empty!!

Rowgtfc72 · 17/04/2014 13:52

Thanks! Dd has no idea were going, meeting the in laws over from Oz there. Dh is an absolute Lego nut and has been saving his money for the shop!

girliefriend · 18/04/2014 19:31

We survived our legoland trip ystd, it was HEAVING!! It seriously felt like most of the U.K had rocked up Grin

We queued to got into the car park, queued to get into the park, queued for the toilets, queued a ridiculous amount of time for rides, queued for a cup of tea and at the end queued to get back out!!

If you are heading down there in next few days be forwarned you will be queuing a lot

However, we still had a lovely day. Dd (8yo) loved it.

I would advise doing duplex waterpark bit first and going round almost backwards. We didn't get on the submarine which I was disappointed about as can remember from a previous visit that that was brilliant. Dd didn't get to do the waterpark bit either as we just ran out of time.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn is Slough which I would recommend as being close by, relatively cheap and very cheerful Smile

Dickorydockwhatthe · 19/04/2014 15:42

Hey girliefriend we just got back and we stayed in the Holiday inn slough too :-) Thursday was definitely heaving luckily we had the Q bot to ease the stress. The park even announced they were going to stay open for an extra hour and half which was handy for us. It took us just 8 mins to get there from the hotel and we arrived there by 9am!! They allowed us through the gate to collect q bots etc and wrist bands which was good so we were all prepared by 10am to head on straight away to Alantis. We also did the laser raiders this is not included in the regular Q bot so head there early as we found this was the most popular!!! We also found the boating school popular too again not included in regular Q bot. Whilst we did the far end rides we booked the knights kingdom the Dragon, then Viking rapid.

In my opinion the most popular rides with nearly 75 mins waits were
Laser raiders
Boating school
The dragon
Viking rapid
Pirate shores

In the diplo village as well as the water park there is a play area for children to play and parents to relax it's a shame it's so far away as it would of occupied the children whilst waiting for the rides using the Q bot. Def take wet weather gear poncho or change of clothes after going on the water rides we got soaked.

wellthatsdoneit · 22/04/2014 20:40

We went on Easter Saturday and it was busy. Arrived at about 9.45 which was later than I planned. Parked in carpark B (as close to C as I could) and was only a minute or two walk to the ticket booth. Once past the turnstiles which didn't take long we had to queue for about an hour to pick up our Qbots which really annoyed me as the queue for those buying them on the day was moving quicker - our queue wasn't particularly long but it moved extremely slowly - they really should have had more staff at this part, but once I got them my blood pressure decreased immeasurably. We finally made our way down into the park at about 11am and the Qbots really were essentially - didn't cut down waiting time but as you can book the next as soon as your Qbot has been zapped for your current ride it does cut the wait time down a bit and means you can do other things whilst waiting/manage your time better. Also hired a pushchair for 4.5 year old which was also a god send as a) somewhere to put the bags (and didn't bother with a locker as a result) and b) it's quite up and down hill and dd would have whinged/taken ages to walk between rides. Single pushchair costs £9 and double £14 and you hire them from The Big Shop in The Beginning. Better to take your own if you have one as the LL ones don't have a basket so dd ended up sitting on a lot of the bags as otherwise pushchair would have tipped up. Although the website said the park closed at 6pm it actually closed at 7pm, which in reality means that they put the ropes up to stop people queuing at 7pm and you can still join a queue at 6.59pm. We left the park at about 7.30pm and it took about 20 minutes to exit the park itself but I followed the alternative route posted on the previous thread and the traffic for that route was free flowing. All in all a great if packed and exhausting day! Would recommend arriving for 9am if at all possible.

TheRealYellowWiggle · 22/04/2014 21:59

What a great thread Smile DS has been pestering me for a year to go to Legoland, thinking of giving in this year and taking him (and toddler ds2) in the first week of July. Planning to get two days entry, though maybe one day and Q bot would be better!
I can see lots of hotels available but hate being stuck in a hotel room with sleeping dcs. Seem to be very few cottages available in area (eg on cottages4you). I saw a campsite with wooden pod things, might take a look!
I feel I am planning a military style mission rather than a kids' treat Blush

TheRealYellowWiggle · 22/04/2014 22:00

Oh, and I wish I shopped in Tescos.
