If you had a Time Machine and could spend a day at any point in the past where would you go? I would love to go back to Victorian London and walk around for the day

18th century. I'd love to meet the ancestors I'm researching.

Hampton Court Elizabethen times

dudsville · 04/12/2024 20:26

The future! I'd love to check in 100, 500 years.

Dazedandconfusedma · 04/12/2024 20:27

Ancient Rome / election day. I grew up in Rome and spent a lot of time imagining it, I’d love to have seen it

Happyinarcon · 04/12/2024 20:28

Go back to biblical times and follow Jesus around for a bit

meercat23 · 04/12/2024 20:30

The years just before I was born so I could understand what happened to make my Mother the way she was.

BraveBlueDuck · 04/12/2024 20:33

Definitely the Victorian era, I'd love to see Queen Victoria's accession to the throne in 1837.

November 1750 to see the opening of Westminster bridge

I'd also visit 1945 Germany, to witness the liberation of Dachau concentration camp.

boobot1 · 04/12/2024 20:35

Loads
Dinosaurs
Ancient greece
Ancient Egyptians
Ancient Rome

Georgian England
Victorian England and loads of others!

ApolloandDaphne · 04/12/2024 20:56

I'm going to Paris in the 1870's to hang out with the impressionist painters.

Joolsin · 04/12/2024 20:57

1920s London or Paris - bright young things!

Ifailed · 04/12/2024 21:05

2200, when the most intelligent life form is octopus.

MrsSethGecko · 04/12/2024 21:09

To London in 1851 to see the Great Exhibition in Hyde Park.
London again to see the old London Bridge before it was destroyed, and look in the shops and houses on it. And go to a Frost Fair when the Thames froze over.

Deadringer · 04/12/2024 21:12

I would love to spend some time in Georgian England and meet Jane Austen. But I would also love to go back and spend one more day with my mum before she died, so I would probably do that.

DelphiniumBlue · 04/12/2024 21:14

Eleventh century. I’d love to see what really happened with Harold Godwinson and Duke William. I’d like to meet Cnut, and also Edward the Confessor, as well as his wife Edith, maybe she’d dish the dirt on why they didn’t have children.

okayhescereal · 04/12/2024 21:15

As much as I'd love to say I'd seen Anne Boleyn in the flesh, or skated at a frost fair, or attended Liveaid, if I really genuinely had the chance to go back in time I'd probably be boringly sensible and visit a point where I could suggest to the younger versions of me and my dad to start investing in some companies called Apple, Google and Microsoft!

Minihero · 04/12/2024 21:21

Victorian London on Christmas Day.

onwardandupwards · 04/12/2024 21:22

I'd love to go back in time and see a stegosaurus or go bk in time and visit the farm in Cornwall my gran was evacuated to as a child, she said they were the most lovely people who took her and her sister in. I'd love to see it as she spoke about it so often .

Fireworknight · 04/12/2024 21:23

1950s - think it would be a great time to be a teenager, post war- optimism, the fashions, music etc

WhitegreeNcandle · 04/12/2024 21:24

So many! I daydream about this often. In no particular order:

Henry VIIII
Richard 111
Ancient Egypt
Jesus obviously.

But the one I go back to the most is my farm. There is evidence for a Roman Farm - I would love to go back to Roman times in 50 year increments to see the changes in the farming family and the landscape.

parietal · 04/12/2024 21:25

i'd explore human evolution - neanderthals and denisovans and early hominds - i'd visit as many as possible and get video

Dappy777 · 04/12/2024 21:56

London in about 1600. Just wander around, visit the pubs, etc, and earwig Shakespeare and Ben Johnson and Marlowe and Drake and the other Elizabethans.

SabrinaThwaite · 04/12/2024 22:20

The 1500s to see my workplace in its finest hour and to test our theories on its origins.

And then fast forward through time - I have so many questions!
