The chest thumping info here is fascinating.

All this talk about waving relics under Henry's nose reminds me - when I was writing my book (YA novel about the Dissolution, set in 1536-7) there was a scene where someone fell off a roof and was unconscious. Now, as it happened my heroine, who believed fervently in all that relic stuff, happened to be in possession of a certain rather special fragment of wood that may or may not have been part of the True Cross.
In keeping with her character therefore I duly sent her off to her room to fetch it, and then I heard a little voice in my head familiar to anyone who's watched Horrible Histories - 'Make way for the Historical Paramedics!'

I couldn't take it seriously after that. Every time I tried to write about these very serious and tragic events I started sniggering. Had to change the scene completely. Sad

Love that Countess

UptoapointLordCopper · 23/02/2015 14:59

What is going on at Hampton Court? Is there are time wrap or something? Shock

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/02/2015 15:02

[boring answer] Costumed interpreters. They've been doing it for years.

[interesting answer] Yes.

UptoapointLordCopper · 23/02/2015 15:41

flippinada · 23/02/2015 19:07

Trills · 23/02/2015 19:31

Hampton Court sounds brilliant - are they always there?

herecomesthsun · 23/02/2015 19:40

they were on the one show the other week

squoosh · 25/02/2015 10:36

Article in today's Daily Mail about Hampton Court's 'ghost' of the Grey Lady, caught on camera.

magimedi · 25/02/2015 11:05

I am so looking forward to tonight's epsiode & so sad that it will be over.

Travelledtheworld · 25/02/2015 11:14

Continuing the Wolf Hall historic buildings theme. You can enjoy a holiday in York and stay in the gatehouse at Cawood Castle, the former palace of the Archbishop of York and where Cardinal Wolsey was staying when he was arrested by Harry Percy.

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/02/2015 11:41

So I read in Wolf Hall that Wolsey said that Luther said that you shouldn't mourn if your wife died in childbirth because she was doing what God intended. Did Luther really say that?

I'm going out tonight. NOOOOO!!!!!

Travelledtheworld · 25/02/2015 13:03

Have a nice night out Lordcopper, though those of us who are staying in will have a better time....

UptoapointLordCopper · 25/02/2015 13:03

Hmmmph.

Behooven · 25/02/2015 13:29

squoosh that is truly creepy!

Learned folk of this thread - which portraits Henry/Anne/ TC/ Jane do you think look like the real people?

Behooven · 25/02/2015 21:33

20 PO people complained about the c word last week Hmm

marshmallowpies · 25/02/2015 21:49

Behoove I think the Holbein pencil sketch of Anne Boleyn looks like a fairly real person, and looks recognisably the same person as the famous portrait of her at the National Portrait Gallery.

God tonight's episode is good! The scene where Mark Smeaton traps himself with his stupid confession is awful, just as upsetting as in the book.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 25/02/2015 22:01

oooh, gripping

still think he's miscast though

FrankelandFilly · 25/02/2015 22:03

Fabulous! Am I right in thinking the portrayal of the execution was accurate - executioner removing his shoes, throwing her attention, etc? It vaguely rings a bell.

Lagoonablue · 25/02/2015 22:04

That was fairly scary.

KatieScarlettreregged · 25/02/2015 22:04

That was fantastic.
Can't believe it's over.
The swordsman taking off his shoes and distracting Anne before striking was chilling. As was Henry's expression in the last frame. Brilliantly done.

LatinForTelly · 25/02/2015 22:05

Very good. I loved that they kept the 'guilty, but perhaps not as charged' line in from the book.

Great final shot too.

Is it true, does anyone know, that Anne might have had an option to 'go quietly' and avoid her fate?

MegCleary · 25/02/2015 22:06

amazing show

BOFster · 25/02/2015 22:07

Wow, that was amazing.

Are we watching BBC4 now?
