So a while ago I saw a few threads on York and one of the mums suggested that we start a sort of Yorkies thread once everyone had results and knew where they were going.

I have a DD going who will be in James college

Anyone else?

Not tummy issues here, but like Londoncalling1989 lots of colds and coughs also due to burning the candle at both ends too much

wizzler · 13/04/2026 23:44

Same situation as @londoncalling1989… Dd is in Anne Lister and has had a cough for weeks. She saw a gp when she came home for Easter and is now on antibiotics… no upset stomach though

SockFluffInTheBath · 14/04/2026 08:23

Thanks ladies, normal fresher behaviours!

SockFluffInTheBath · 17/04/2026 17:22

DD reckons there’s lots of police around Anne Lister today. They’re in the building by hers and she’s getting a bit worried.

wizzler · 17/04/2026 21:00

Just asked Dd.. said there were 2 police cars but doesn’t know anymore. Not sure if she’s amazed or horrified that I hear from Mumsnet what’s happening in her world !

SockFluffInTheBath · 17/04/2026 21:51

Ha 😁 thanks wizzler, can’t be anything too awful.

Hey guys how are you all ? Anyone planning on putting their ds stuff in storage over the summer ? If so what company and how much ?
probably need a months storage
as its a long way to transport all that crap home

Pickfords.

Thankfully DD’s new house contract starts about 2 weeks before halls ends. I say thankfully, it eases the move- halls to house rather than halls to home to house- but it means I’m paying £1/mth for an empty room
over the summer.

SockFluffInTheBath · 28/05/2026 19:54

£1/mth, oh I wish 😂

GoodNamesOnly · 07/06/2026 19:19

Can't believe that is first year over! It seems to have flown by. My DD has made some great friends and had loads of fun. I don't think she wants to come home, but I am excited to have her back for a bit. Wonder what the summer will be like in terms of adjusting to being back at home...

wizzler · 08/06/2026 11:13

Currently stood outside Anne Lister as Dd brings bags to the car. Can’t believe year 1 has gone so fast.

PriscillaQueenoftheKitchen · 08/06/2026 18:46

I'm glad to say, my DC put bedding and kitchen items in storage and hopped on a 22 quid train home. Hoping their journey back in Sept is equally straightforward.

Which storage facility company did they use ?
We've got our dd back, she's now about to go off on a big holiday with her school/home friends
This year has gone so fast

Yes, Pickfords. they came and picked it all up and will bring it all back to the new abode when needed.

I was wondering, now that 1st year is over, do any families think they're going to do things differently next year?

Got no plans to do anything differently really
other than visit a bit more

BlueBirdOnAWire · 21/06/2026 10:05

How about you ?

Yeah I think study weeks may be spent more at home, as there were a few in January when no one else was really around much and the clubs weren't particularly active.

HebeJeeby · 02/07/2026 08:31

Can’t believe the 1st year is over, we are coming up to Anne Lister today to move DD out and into her new accommodation. DD is sad to be leaving AL, she says she’s got so many happy memories of her first year and it will be strange to think of someone in “her” room. Like a PP we will visit more next year as surprisingly DD said she would like us to, we deliberately didn’t visit much as we didn’t want to cramp her style, so it is lovely to know that she would like us to come up more. Good luck to everyone’s YP over the summer whatever they may be doing.

recruitretain · 02/07/2026 22:35

Moved our YP out at the weekend
this is the disgusting sight we saw
We went all the way up from london and I couldn’t leave it like this so we spent 2 hrs cleaning up after the selfish young folk who left the flat in that state

HebeJeeby · 03/07/2026 07:49

Oh my goodness @recruitretain I thought the state of the kitchen my daughter’s flatmates had left was bad but that is much worse. Like you I felt so bad for the cleaners, so spent time recycling the hundreds of bottles just left behind and cleaning the fridge out. It’s not on.

HairyCalifornia · 03/07/2026 08:02

To be fair, all that stuff on the table actually looks clean? Like someone has pulled it out of the cupboards to be discarded / taken away.
