So a while ago I saw a few threads on York and one of the mums suggested that we start a sort of Yorkies thread once everyone had results and knew where they were going.

I have a DD going who will be in James college

Anyone else?

DD also coming home next Friday and also has her house all sorted for next year. Seems it was all sorted out with no drama luckily. She says she has in persons exams in January so planning on going back for them. I guess she may come back for a bit if all quiet but says that her flatmates all have in persons exams so will probably be around.

GoodNamesOnly · 04/12/2025 08:07

So excited for mine to come home! I do agree this first term has gone quicker and been easier to deal with than I expected. Just looking forward to having her back around the house. I miss our little chats.

She has also got her house sorted for next year and I agree it feels like one less thing to worry about now. She has not heard yet when her exams are in January, which makes planning the holidays a bit difficult. I assume she will go back for Monday 12 Jan. Do other people have their exam timetables?

Obviously this varies by subject but my DD has known for weeks when her assessments and exams were - it seems very odd that your DD has no idea. Does she even know whether they will be face to face or virtual? She might want to check she has not missed some information.

But yes, the 12th is the earliest that she will have an exam - although she might wish to go back earlier to revise.

Over the last 10 years or so Dd and I have always spent a day doing Xmassy things in York . I went to uni there a million years ago (Alcuin) and felt very at home walking round the city. This year I am meeting her early on pick up day so we can continue the tradition only this time I suspect she will be leading the way <wipes tear from eye>.

Aww this is so cute and very special.

Regarding going back, I think my dd will go where the work is, as she's got a job at home and a job in york now, she doe st have to go back till Feb tho, but got a feeling she will go back before that

Also because her house will be from July, me dd and her sibling might spend sometime in york/yorkshire in the summer

So far we've seen alot of york, whitby and the moors, still want to see the dales and harrogate and more of the coastline

BlueBirdOnAWire · 05/12/2025 16:06

Is the ere anywhere else you guys are hoping to visit during your adult child’s time at York ?

we are hoping to see the dales, Harrogate, more of the coastline

then visit edingburgh
and newcastle

how about you guys ?

SockFluffInTheBath · 05/12/2025 16:45

We’ve done York a few times already anyway but I love the Minster. Not remotely religious, but I love the architecture and we always visit the local God box when we’re on a city break. Edinburgh is beautiful, spent a lot of holidays there as a child, highly recommended. Never done Newcastle, that’s on the list. Harrogate is lovely, and would like to do more of the Yorkshire coast.

BlueBirdOnAWire · 05/12/2025 17:04

I’d love to see the Minster at Christmas, maybe next year

we were suprised at how well connected York is

OldYorkMum · 05/12/2025 21:01

Love Whitby and the Dales, and the Peak District and Chatsworth en route from the south. And Northumberland.

SockFluffInTheBath · 06/12/2025 10:22

DD coming home on Wednesday now. Very upset on the phone last night so DH is going to be to nip and fetch her after work. Will be nice to see her, I just hope she goes back after Christmas…

Oh no, why is she upset ? Is she feeling home sick ?

hope she goes back ok too, maybe a good chuck of time at home will help, I do hope so

SockFluffInTheBath · 06/12/2025 16:33

Yes homesick. Lots of Christmas memories of her late Gran (making Christmas cakes and puddings together, choosing and decorating their tree etc) starting to come forward in her mind. I hope some time with family and the dogs cheers her up. We’ve painted her room in the new colour she asked for, and have just hung the new curtains, so hopefully that perks her up too.

thats really nice how you’ve done her room for her while she’s been away, really thoughtful
I can see why she would be missing the comfort of a lovely home like that

i also think the missing pets is a biggie too

plus of course losing a grandparent too

really hope a good chunk of time at home with the pets helps

When you think about it, it is all alot really
hugs to you
you seem like a lovely mum

SockFluffInTheBath · 10/12/2025 21:19

DH fetched DD, got home this evening. Fed her, and she fell asleep on the sofa with one of the dogs lying on her. They’ve missed her as much as we have. Her brother will be home on Sunday.

Awww that’s good, I’ve been wondering how you are, and how your dd is, I bet it feels nice to have her home
sweet the dogs have fell asleep with her

BlueBirdOnAWire · 19/12/2025 12:50

SockFluffInTheBath How’s your dd doing ?

SockFluffInTheBath · 19/12/2025 19:43

She’s doing well, thank you. The last of her school friends got home today so I imagine we won’t see much of her now! How is your yp?

Oh that’s good, I’m glad she’s good, nice for her to catch up with her home friends, yes my dd is good been really nice having her back and we’ve had a lot of fun and a crazy amount of food out already
had a nice day out in London this week with theatre and meal out and shopping
starting to feel very festive now
its nice to have her back for a decent amount of time, to just enjoy the more casual days too

GoodNamesOnly · 27/12/2025 22:52

Lovely having my DD home. For the first few days I found it a bit difficult as she seemed to be annoyed by everything I did. She seems to have settled back into the rhythm of being home now.

Awww that’s nice, when does she go back? I’ve loved having mine back

another thing we need to readjust to
when they go again

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 31/12/2025 13:31

I hope everyone has had a lovely Christmas. Mines going back on the 8th. He likes York!

GoodNamesOnly · 05/01/2026 09:05

Mine is going back on the 8th too. I am glad she is keen to go back, though I am also jealous of the parents who get to keep their kids at home for a few weeks longer!

This one seems like a much longer stint until Easter without a reading week to break it up.

wizzler · 05/01/2026 13:10

Taking mine back this evening . Will miss her but she is loving York and I’m only an hour or so away

SockFluffInTheBath · 05/01/2026 22:27

DD reckons her lectures don’t restart until 12th February, and no exams before that only some essays and a portfolio to send in. Not sure how long she intends to stay.
