@OneFrenchEgg hope you have more luck today 🤞

I'll be issuing a check your junk folder instruction here.

Thank you, yes definitely do that I've been surprised at what has gone to junk. Almost missed the DSA meeting as the link went to junk

Hi all! Been a while since I posted here. DD finished Year 2 with a very high 2.1 (close enough to a First to be annoying). She's splitting the summer between "here" and "there" and travelling a bit, and found volunteer work in a museum, both front-of-house and behind-the-scenes.

She's considering museum conservation as a Plan B if the art doesn't provide an income (I think that the current plan is to give it a year after graduation while doing anything as a day-job). There are several one-year graduate conservation courses out there. Do any of you lovely people know anything about the field? It seems like you might!

@PhotoDad well done to PhotoDadDD! Like anything to do with the arts and the creative sector it is extremely competitive, but that should not put her off. A masters is a good starting point, and as she / you may already know, she should get as much experience under her belt as possible. Quite often volunteers are in the right place at the right time to get a shot at any jobs that come up. Make sure the masters she chooses has good two way links within the heritage sector.
As she's in Cambridge, has she thought about trying to get some experience in one of the theatres? Having varied experience can make her stand out at application and interview stage.

PhotoDad · 22/07/2024 11:44

Thanks, @Soma, those are good points. I'll mention theatres, but she also plans to keep volunteering at the museum throughout term-time on afternoons she doesn't have classes (it's down there rather than up here, which I didn't make clear). She's on the 'collections team' helping with accessions and cataloguing, as well as helping with craft events etc.

Her (salaried) boss also went into museum work after a design degree, and I think that's given her the idea. DD will also pick boss' brain about routes in when she's got her feet a little more under the table!

Yet another world I know nothing about. DS (just finished Y12) wants to do a STEM course and that's much more straightforward.

Acinonyx2 · 26/07/2024 20:42

That's great news @PhotoDad . I have students gong into museum work - but that's to work with fossils so not much help :)

Okisenough · 13/08/2024 23:21

Good luck to anyone waiting for results on Thursday like us. My dd is quite chilled about it as her firm offer is quite low and she is pretty sure she has done enough! Fingers crossed.

Duchessofmuchness · 14/08/2024 08:57

Adding my good luck to all for tomorrow! It's also the day art foundation results come out so we will also be checking in the morning. Sending strength to the supportive parents to help their YP through it all tomorrow. For those who are thrown a curve ball , there is usually another route, and that seems particularly the case for creative options.

Fingers crossed for everyone! I am a teacher and will be in school tomorrow... it's always such an odd day, having to switch moods so quickly. Keep us posted!

Aaarghthepancakes · 14/08/2024 12:47

Unconditional offer here for Foundation and we're still stressed for tomorrow. Aargh.

QGMum · 14/08/2024 13:15

Hope everyone gets good news tomorrow.

We are waiting for Art Foundation results. Dc needs pass to carry on at AUB to animation production degree.

Am I correct in understanding that CSM Fashion:womenswear has gone into Clearing?

I don’t see that course listed as having spaces on the UAL website

here

Yes, I noticed that too. Kingston Fashion also in clearing which surprised me. Must be a real art for the unis to make the offers and get the final numbers right.

Apologies just checked again and think it's the Fashion design and technology womenswear at LCF that is in clearing.

OP posts:
Duchessofmuchness · 14/08/2024 19:55

UCAS saying it's CSM. One of them is wrong!

Can I join here. My daughter is hoping to do drama at Greenwich.
And my eldest does fashion at the FRA and I've seen some of you have young people waiting for fashion.

I think my dd will be ok as they lowered the ucas points by over 30 this afternoon. She would've had to really mess her btecs up to get in now. She should've got in on the offer but the lower mark almost makes it a done deal I hope!

ArtGarfield · 14/08/2024 21:23

Odd that it’s on ucas but not on on the UAL website. I wonder if the ucas one is for international students?

Interesting that Kingston Fashion is there too. O read an article in the Tines I think where it said that this year courses in clearing should and are being viewed as a choice rather than a desperate attempt.

Duchessofmuchness · 14/08/2024 21:45

@ArtGarfield
I wonder if it's a mistake on ucas because it only shows csm whereas the ual site only has lcf . I imagine ual site would be right?

Interesting that you read better choice for students this year in clearing. I wonder why that is?

@socks1107 welcome! And good luck tomorrow

Well done miniFanny!!

Duchessofmuchness · 15/08/2024 09:59

Well done to your DDs @FancyFanny @Okisenough

No word here yet as DS has no idea how to get his art foundation grade and I remembered at midnight last night that we have to send to ucas as they don't receive directly. He has after a few angry exchanges he has finally headed in to college as their website says they are handing out Btec and t tech results until 11. Fingers crossed!

DS got a distinction in his foundation which is what he needed for his LCF menswear fashion and technology place. Phew! Still need to upload it to ual site but that will have to wait until this afternoon as he's gone back to bed!
