@theinnergame yes high stress here too. Fortunately siblings are all on board with keep dd occupied and distracted. One more sleep. Hope you have a good flight @Peachy2005 and don't need to do anything mid flight anyway.

I think it is the way the government frame it all as money grabbing doctors which is so frustrating. Give them better conditions and maybe an incentive to stay such as paying off student loan after X years service and they would probably be happier. Even if the doctor still paid for maintenance aspect, saying that if you stay in the NHS for five years your fees component will be wiped then there will be a number of doctors who decide to stay to get that bonus. If they stay five years they are more likely to then have a partner and stronger ties to stay in UK anyway. Many other students don't fully pay their student loan off anyway so the government is already subsidising them. Some will obviously still go abroad but not just for the humane conditions and there will be some financial incentive to stay.

jasminetrampoline · 16/08/2023 08:38

@Unexpecteddrivinginstructor I completely agree. If someone works.for the state (doctor, nurse, teacher etc) it seems fair to me that the tuition fees if it the whole loan are gradually reduced each year or wiped clear after 5 or 10 years. Win win all round.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2023 09:21

I think that would go a long way in helping retention, clearing student debt after 5 years, and would cost a pittance. However the rhetoric around doctors is now rivalling teachers. How can the government demonise the medical profession - the very people who we turn to when we are ill. Why work somewhere that you don't feel appreciated. For £14.09 an hour. DD said there was loads of support from the public on the picket line, which was good to hear.

So far I've not seen much that I would call junior in what my DD is doing. Often the only doctor on the ward and friends doing night shifts on their own. Not sure how having more beds is going to make this better.

My biggest surprise though has been the role Whatsapp plays in the NHS - at least it works. Shame the mouse on the ward computer doesn't work and the keyword doesn't have an S key.

But, it's still a great profession and seems to be valued elsewhere so good luck for tomorrow. I'll in school from 7.30am but I'll keep an eye on here too, so please share all your news.

However the rhetoric around doctors is now rivalling teachers. How can the government demonise the medical profession - the very people who we turn to when we are ill.

How can they demonise teachers, the very people who we entrust our children to many days of the week? Probably because in both cases the government wouldn't touch publicly funded provision with a barge pole.

A golden hello is not an unreasonable incentive to join an organisation. The military already offer similar to those medics who join up.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2023 09:49

@Unexpecteddrivinginstructor I know my students & parents will be so lovely tomorrow (& next week). I try and ignore the bad stuff now as it's so demoralising, but many teachers are leaving as feel unappreciated. Even in the private sector ! Easy for us to go abroad too.

The media in this country is not what is was & most don't seem to critically analysis what the government spouts out (now I sound old !).

Good morning everybody! Congratulations to everyone getting Scottish results!

What time in the morning are we likely to hear anything you think ? 8 am ?
Will he hear from UCAS first ? Do you think I should be around for this time ? I was wondering whether or not I need to take the day off to help DS (who is in Europe just now as well).

NoNotHimTheOtherOne · 16/08/2023 10:28

@Cratos Their status will update on UCAS at 08:00. They will see whether they've been placed at their firm choice, placed at their insurance choice or offered a different course at one of them.

To get their actual grades they will need to go to school/college or use whatever system has been put in place by the school/college for them to access results.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2023 10:29

@Cratos UCAS is set to go live at 8am, but will likely crash so be patient. School results are dependent on school I'm afraid - we do 8am so everything at same time.
Can try and log in to UCAS early as sometimes it goes up, but they've tightened this in the last few years so unlikely.
I'd be available to your DS, just in case, or to just share good news.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2023 10:30

@NoNotHimTheOtherOne cross posts 😀. I'm sitting in my classroom (supposedly planning) but it's hard to concentrate when I know the results are being stuffed into envelopes as I drink my tea.

Cratos · 16/08/2023 10:43

@NoNotHimTheOtherOne and @mumsneedwine thank you so much for being available for advice.💐

I was not thinking much about the results day recently since I was away and busy looking after elderly parents but today I feel pretty anxious.

Fingers crossed for everybody for tomorrow !!!

Monkey2001 · 16/08/2023 18:16

Good luck all, hope to see lots of happy news on here tomorrow!

Cratos · 16/08/2023 18:54

I guess Clearing is not an option for my DS even if it becomes available since he applied for deferred entry in 2024.

toomuchlikemyusername · 16/08/2023 19:53

Just popping in to say good luck to all with DCs who will be getting results tomorrow. My DS has his plan B ready and waiting just in case.
And thanks once again for all of the advice and guidance that's been given on this thread over the past year. I don't think we'd have navigated this anywhere near as well if it hadn't have been for the fabulous posters on here.

mumsneedwine · 16/08/2023 20:12

@Cratos he can always ask 😊. Don't be afraid to give anything a go tomorrow, even call around if results are better than expected and have no offers. Be ready with GCSE results, UCAT score (complete breakdown) and UCAS number.
Sleep well all. My DD stress knitted a scarf the night before results. And IKEA give free meatballs normally on results day - it's usually packed with bleary eyed parents and kids.

Hopeful646 · 16/08/2023 20:18

Good luck to everyone tomorrow . Just had a look at UCAS clearing and it seems St Georges is in there for medicine now , no idea if that's correct or not but thought I'd mention it on the off chance it helps anyone .

Thethingswedoforlove · 16/08/2023 20:20

@Hopeful646 I think it is the Malta campus from at George’s that is in clearing currently….
a big all the best to everyone

opoponax · 16/08/2023 20:36

Good luck to all the DC for tomorrow morning. Hope we all get some sleep tonight.

St George's always used to leave a few places for clearing and I'm hearing they might have done it this year. Here is the link for the morning
