DS has been invited to interview!! MFL & Linguistics at Christchurch. So proud of him for getting this far.

Best of luck to those still waiting.

Congrats to your DS @Firefox1066

I've been laughing at some of the stipulations re the Zoom interview - no one else will be in the room, no one will impersonate you, you won't record the interview etc. I mean how on earth would they know? Not that I am planning to do any of these things but find the idea hilarious of me impersonating dd (I'd do much worse than her so this is a non-starter)

goodbyestranger · 28/11/2022 12:20

Codfishermen a few years ago there was a troubling number of very mature looking 10 year old boys taking the 11+ in certain sought after grammars....

goodbyestranger · 28/11/2022 12:21

A decade and a bit ago, to be fair.

I remember that!! It's ike the whole racket getting people to take your driving test. But honestly, how would they know - equally what's to stop a keen parent sticking flashcards under the kid's nose? I am leaving the house when dd is doing hers - way too stressful

When my son applied to Oxford in 2019, he could have been anyone at his interview as there were no photo ID checks in place. He was ID checked at his admissions test though.

When he started, his tutor said they had difficulty remembering the offer holders from their interviews.

Maybe explains how several Tory MPs got through ...

Um... the nature of the sorts of questions that might be asked or issues that might be discussed at an oxbridge interview?

The point is probably that if someone is observed or heard in the room, the applicant knows it would invalidate the interview and so won't risk it.

I'm sure it's nothing like the proctoring requirements when DD did her finals from home in 202, at least! Not only did the camera have to be on continually on the laptop, but she had to have a second video feed (her phone)- scanned round the room before starting and then set up so as to show where she was working for the duration.

Gwenavyne · 28/11/2022 15:25

DS has an interview for chemical engineering. Good luck everyone!

They can (and did) ask you to turn the camera to show the room at some point during the interview.

EmmaStone · 28/11/2022 15:34

Oh well done to all those who've obtained interviews! Still waiting to hear here - her subject's interviews are Monday and Tuesday next week, so I think she has to hear by end of today to give 7 days' notice (that's what she told me, but I don't know if that's best practice or set in stone)? Nerves are frayed...

ACJane · 28/11/2022 15:40

Are your dcs doing their interviews at home?
Mine is.

Going to have to stay firmly out of the way but it would be SOOO tempting to listen at the door! I won't but...!

Aha! Still wouldn't stop someone else impersonating you though - not that I truly believe anyone would be mad enough to try that but they nonetheless expressly forbid it as if you might be considering it

Oh wow taking it to the wire no wonder you are on edge. Really hope she has good news by now.

goodbyestranger · 28/11/2022 17:51

EmmaStone two of my DS were given five days notice for History.

OnePlusOneEquals · 28/11/2022 18:04

Still waiting for Physics…..but I didn’t think they’d be out till tomorrow at least judging by the previous years…..still, it was good to hope!
