Following on from the Oxbridge rejects thread but I've got rid of those two words. I for one am interested to know where they all end up and when Durham might finally deign to reject/offer DS...

Good luck to your DC @Puffalicious and @Eightytwenty - nearly there!
I can't believe I'm saying this but DS is still waiting on LSE for IR. Whole slew of rejections on TSR yesterday so don't know what on earth to make of it but a rejection at this stage after having been apparently still in contention for so long would somehow feel worse. Thank God for his Edinburgh offer. Speaking to others at school hardly anyone got a Durham offer, including two sitting on Cambridge offers. Bonkers.

Puffalicious · 05/05/2022 18:05

DS2 has indeed had a clustered exam timetable. Maths went 'swimmingly' yesterday, Modern Studies was 'tough'today. He's having an evening off tonight, bless him, before starting in earnest for his 3 next week!

DS1 is veritably horizontal as usual about Adv Higher Maths tomorrow. He has an interview for a summer job in the afternoon after it- nothing phases that boy!

Hope mini Eightytwenty felt it went well today.

Fishingeagle it really beggar's belief. DS1 says that UCAS say all offers must be in by the 19th- LSE are cutting it fine!

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 05/05/2022 19:18

Good luck to those with exams now! Can't believe our dc are at this stage, where did time go?! Dd is revising in earnest with her first exam in 3 weeks. True DD style she is having major doubts about her grades and panicking. She has the same (amazing) teacher for both History & Politics but the poor sod broke his shoulder and is off sick, DD is gutted and missing the structure & support.

doubleshotcappuccino · 06/05/2022 03:07

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango ouch that poor teacher ! Yes similar here.. head down but moments of panic and worry .. one foot in front of the other for her, and me, till June ..

doubleshotcappuccino · 06/05/2022 03:09

Good luck to those still waiting for offers, in May.. goodness me that's tough when they've got to keep their eye on the revision

Stockpot · 06/05/2022 08:13

DD has an LSE offer now. She will stick on St As. Still waiting on Edinburgh, but prefers St As.

Her school is urging the DC to firm what they have and let go of waiting for the final offers. They are worried the DC will be distracted.

Her mocks went well. And her coursework marks for Geo and History were good too.

After the rollercoaster of the last 6 months, it’s feeling like more than glass half full.

SayYouDontMind · 06/05/2022 08:26

Right, that's DS off to Advanced Higher Maths. Got his first AH Music performance under his belt, 2nd instrument and theory next week. That just leaves AH History which is towards the end of the month. Still no news from St As for the 2nd subject he applied for there. Feel for those of you still waiting. Who are the biggest culprits for taking it to the wire? Is it LSE, UCL, St As, KCL? I can't keep up!

Good luck to those of us with offspring sitting exams now inc. Puffalicious and EightyTwenty - sorry if I've forgotten any other Scottish MN-ers on here.

And good luck to those waiting on news to finalise decisions and who are busy revising. Nearly there!

Eightytwenty · 06/05/2022 08:30

@SayYouDontMind hope it goes well. Have been hearing a few reports about AH being hard though DS seemed to take Mods in his stride.

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango Rubbish timing. Hope the foundation that he’s put in will support your DD through.

@Stockpot congratulations on LSE and on firming St A. Now the tricky accommodation form to complete (it’s a bit weird).

Stockpot · 06/05/2022 08:43

She hasn’t firmed yet. She is stubborn and wants to know the Edinburgh result.

doubleshotcappuccino · 06/05/2022 09:40

@Stockpot great news. Good luck for those who are off the starting line.. sooner start sooner finish which is a lovely thought. Dd firmed LSE now.. onwards

Eightytwenty · 06/05/2022 10:45

@Stockpot sorry misunderstood. Hope Ed hurries up.
@doubleshotcappuccino congrats on firming LSE!

doubleshotcappuccino · 06/05/2022 12:07

@Eightytwenty thank you ! Feels like an age since we started this all ! Thanks for setting up this group- have felt very supported x

Valleyofthedollymix · 06/05/2022 14:08

@Stockpot I saw a friend today whose daughter (state school, super smart, rejected after interview for Oxford) is still watiing for Edinburgh geography too. It's the one she'd go for if she got but they're off to Glasgow this weekend in order to get enthusiastic about it. I see your school's POV but I also understand why they want to hear from all of them given that it's only five and how hard can it be.

My DD firmed York and put Leeds as insurance. We finally got her formal diagnosis for dyslexia; had to pay for the assessment (which wasn't cheap at £500) but it does mean she can apply for DSA and have a needs assessment which is really good news.
We only live in West Yorkshire ourselves so not too far, I thought she might have bern interested in Edinburgh or Durham but she said she wanted to be nearer.

Puffalicious · 06/05/2022 17:53

Sayyoudontmind I dropped DS1 off this morning for AH Maths: he was as chilled as ever. He said it was 'good'. One killer 6 marker that he went back to and stared at at the end for 10 minutes, saw the solution and had a mad scrabble to fire it all on paper! Apart from that he was happy.

He's sat Higher PE (crashed this year), just H Graphics (crashed) and AH Biology and we're done.

DS2 has his final 3 N5s next week. It'll be a struggle motivating him to keep pushing through the weekend with good weather (he's an outdoor boy!). I'm desperate for next Fri when he's finished.

Still amazed and annoyed by offers still not in for you guys. Like you say, it's 5 institutions, not 50 they're applying for. Sheesht. My colleague was telling me his DD has unconditionals for everywhere for law but still hasn't heard from Edinburgh! All her friends have been rejected but she's still not heard (all from the same private school, so no difference). It's just silly now.

Great news for those firming. DS still undecided.

SayYouDontMind · 06/05/2022 18:54

Puffalicious your DS sounds like he did well. My DS thought it was the hardest paper he’s done and yes, there was a killer question in the 2nd paper that threw him a bit. Thinks he’s done ‘OK’ though and is delighted it’s over. I don’t envy you having two kids going through exams! Good luck for the remaining exams 😊

Puffalicious · 06/05/2022 21:10

Sayyoudontmind your DS will have done well, I'm sure. Maths is a foreign language to me!

All DS's mates were going on about that killer question, and the lecturer said he'd never seen the like before, so they're all in the same boat.

DS1 is so laid back it's fine, it's DS2 who's the nightmare 😱. That boy has been sent to pay me back for all the bother I caused my parents🤣

Puffalicious · 10/05/2022 17:06

Well, DS has an offer from St A's. He's definitely not moving on his decision and doesn't want to go. I just think it's so, so, so late to be keeping them waiting. His exams are almost over! He has a few friends still waiting for Edinburgh/ Strathclyde- but these are their preferred choices. It's not fair at all.

Anyone else still waiting?

Puffalicious · 10/05/2022 17:07

Oh, and he's still not decided on Edinburgh or Glasgow. I think he just has too much going on.

Eightytwenty · 10/05/2022 17:24

Congratulations @Puffalicious at least he’s now heard (even if the pressure is on to make a decision!). I know of a bunch of people still waiting in real life. So hard for them.

Stockpot · 10/05/2022 17:40

DD is still waiting on Edinburgh.

SayYouDontMind · 10/05/2022 18:22

That's my DS finally heard from St As for his second subject choice - rejected. But now he can accept his unconditional offer from them and start making proper plans - it seems a lifetime since that hopeful UCAS application went in back in October!

Glad the waiting is over and SO relieved as I thought for a while back there that he'd screwed up by applying to two subjects at St A and would come away with no offers from them. By the looks of TSR there have been lots of rejections this afternoon - your boy did good to get an offer Puffalicious I hope he makes his final decision soon.

Stockpot I hope your DS hears from Edinburgh very soon too.

Good luck to everyone else - FishingEagle you still waiting on LSE? And big, big thanks to EightyTwenty for starting this thread. No doubt some of our offsprings' paths will cross come the Autumn 🙂

Eightytwenty · 10/05/2022 18:27

Sorry to hear @SayYouDontMind but at least he knows what he is doing.

Hurry up Edinburgh!

Puffalicious · 10/05/2022 18:34

Yes, he felt bad when friends got rejections today, he got an offer and doesn't want it. But I told him that that space will go to someone who does really want it.

Sayyoudontmind thank goodness he has that first offer. Bloody ridiculous that they took that long to decide.

It's just so unfair Stockpot, it really, really is. All my fingers and toes are crossed. From what I remember, he really wants to go there, Yes?

And big thanks to EightyTwenty for starting this super supportive thread.

Stockpot · 10/05/2022 22:13

She was keen on Edinburgh to start with, but she’s gone off the boil due to the long wait @Puffalicious

I believe she will firm St As, but she is stubborn and wants her answer.

Glad your DS now has an offer @SayYouDontMind , maybe our DC’s paths will cross.

Thank you for the thread @Eightytwenty , it’s certainly been a comfort!
