Brilliant news @RampantIvy what an achievement for your DD!
Glad it went well @bigTillyMint I was certainly a bit rough at work the next morning after 4 hrs sleep! DD home this Sunday. Then it’s all over.

RampantIvy · 01/07/2022 16:29

Thank you everyone. Im feeling sad that this adventure is over for DD. She has had stressful times, like all of our students, but has also had great times and made some lovely friends.

Benjispruce4 · 01/07/2022 16:33

I know @RampantIvy . DD has a few things planned with her housemates over the summer such a s weekends away and a holiday so I think that’s helping her to prolong the social side a little longer. It will be a strange adjustment having he back long term.

VanCleefArpels · 01/07/2022 16:53

I wonder if we need a new conversation about dealing with our graduates living at home again full time / starting work 😉🥴

ZandathePanda · 01/07/2022 17:47

@VanCleefArpels I am trying to coast in the glory of the moment before the shudder of reality hits. Already the hall is full of bags and we’ve not even started yet. The stress of CV tweaks and covering letters!

Benjispruce4 · 01/07/2022 20:27

@VanCleefArpels thats a good idea. DD1 and DD2 don’t always rub along well and we have a long summer ahead…..

Xenia · 01/07/2022 21:56

Indeed and I am now on graduate children 4 and 5 living back at home after graduation so a past master at it..... although the older 3 have definitely all moved out now, two married with children and the third a fair distance away so they do ultimately go.

jano69 · 01/07/2022 21:56

Excellent news @RampantIvy re your DD's first.

We are travelling back to London now after an exhausting couple of days of moving DS out of his house and seeing him graduate today.

@bigTillyMint We must seen each other today, maybe not in the Cathedral but almost certainly the History drinks. An enjoyable but absolutely exhausting day, physically and mentally.

bigTillyMint · 01/07/2022 22:04

Yes @jano69, we were there! in the garden till it started bucketing! A very tiring day, especially after a big night at the graduation dinner last night, but really lovely. Quiet night tonight!

Another thread sounds good @VanCleefArpels - we already have DD working mainly from home, and DS coming back with us on Sunday, so full house again!

jano69 · 01/07/2022 22:59

@bigTillyMint We we're in the garden too until it started raining too. I was wearing a cream dress, with black spots, and a cream jacket. So close a meeting....

We are all four home this evening, mixed emotions, I think I shall miss my empty nest. As Xenia says, they will eventually leave again....

VanCleefArpels · 01/07/2022 23:09

So as not to derail this thread as there are many still studying here’s a new chat in the “parents of adult children” topic

www.mumsnet.com/talk/parents_of_adult_children/4581147-graduates-returning-to-the-nest-a-new-start-for-all

LouisCatorze · 02/07/2022 08:06

Yes, I've got used to only having the one DC at home now. It definitely makes for less bumpy family dynamics. I was frazzled a couple of weeks ago when they were both here, being super noisy and reverting to that siblings vs parents thing! DS acting like he's about 14 and DD just being much harder work than she is when on her own.

Glad you had enjoyable times at the graduation ceremony, meal and other celebrations at Durham @Benjispruce4 @jano69 and @bigTillyMint . You will be exhausted and hoping you've recovered from any lingering sleep deprivation and too much to drink.

It certainly is the end of an era Sad

RampantIvy · 02/07/2022 08:15

I wanted to say thank you for the support on these threads. Some mumsnet threads are particularly vicious, but these threads tracking our DCs journey up and down through university have been nothing but supportive.

Benjispruce4 · 02/07/2022 08:16

@LouisCatorze yes I know what you mean. The times my DD get on the most is when they are joining together to have a moan at us! 😀

Benjispruce4 · 02/07/2022 08:17

I’m coming over @VanCleefArpels !

LouisCatorze · 02/07/2022 08:25

Yeah, I'd definitely second that @RampantIvy .

Benjispruce4 · 02/07/2022 08:27

I agree and big thanks to @NewModelArmyMayhem18 for keeping them going 👏🏻

Benjispruce4 · 02/07/2022 08:28

Not heard from you for quite a while @NewModelArmyMayhem18 hope everything’s is ok.

jano69 · 02/07/2022 08:43

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 has surely just name changed on this thread?.... well she sounds exactly like someone else who contributes lots here... 🤪

bigTillyMint · 02/07/2022 08:50

Ooh 🤔

yes, I’m coming over too!
All is fine in our house when only one at home, but takes a couple of weeks for them to readjust when the other comes back…. Both strong personalities!

Benjispruce4 · 02/07/2022 09:04

Oh I wasn’t aware of a name change for op.

icanbewhatiwant · 02/07/2022 17:23

Yes I've been grateful for this thread. Thanks. There is a year 13 thread too that many on this thread are also on. Everyone has been supportive on both.

Benjispruce4 · 02/07/2022 21:00

Let me know that one @icanbewhatiwant if you don’t mind. I have a year 13/uni applicant too.

icanbewhatiwant · 02/07/2022 21:06

Thread 34 Covid Cohort - Heat 'Waving' DC to final exams and drinking more www.mumsnet.com/Talk/further_education/4570358-thread-34-covid-cohort-heat-waving-dc-to-final-exams-and-drinking-more

@Benjispruce4 does that work?

icanbewhatiwant · 02/07/2022 21:08

@Benjispruce4 somewhere back in the thread there is a list of offers and who is hoping to go where. There are quite a few on that thread that have been on this year group thread too.
