😭😁thank you everyone. 2 A stars and an A, and over a dozen seizures during the A Level period. I was never sure if I was pushing her too hard to keep going. I think her teachers were aghast when I told them she should take a rest break and carry on after a particularly bad one in the middle of an exam - but we know they ‘clear’ her head so knew she would do better by carrying on after a rest than before the seizure when she was trying to concentrate over the ‘static’. We both knew she would feel more defeated if she didn’t keep going. Hence several staff, as well as us, with tears in their eyes yesterday. I am so proud she got through them.

In completely different news, the Uni landlord is delaying the deposit back due to not getting the gardener and window cleaner in yet. There is a front ‘patio slabs’ 2 feet deep that we cleared of dandelions and a concrete yard at the back. The only greenery is sprouting out the damp walls! The new tenants will have already moved in. He also says he needs the meter readings which is interesting as they have been in disputed but ignored for a year (photo evidence readings of when they moved in but these don’t tarry with what the energy companies had). The energy company believe the previous tenants may have underestimated the final reading. So interesting the landlord asked them. Sigh.

Massive well.done to DD2 @ZandathePanda.

My dd's still.trying to get her deposit back but she's prepared to go the deposit scheme route.

icanbewhatiwant · 19/08/2022 18:14

@ZandathePanda amazing for dd to continue. Such an achievement you are obviously very proud.

RampantIvy · 19/08/2022 19:12

@ZandathePanda is your DD's landlord called Simon by any chance?

ZandathePanda · 19/08/2022 21:07

Thank you all again xxxx
@RampantIvy no not Simon. Don’t know his name Dd is dealing with it all. I do remember he can understand English well but pretends not to. Very good at writing very very direct emails which don’t tell the truth.

ZandathePanda brilliant results, you must be so pleased for her.

DD returning from her year abroad next week. She loved it so much in Germany, she's staying until the last day of her residence permit. She's then got six days of work (her lockdown employer asked if she was around) and a late 21st celebration with family/friends here. Not sure when she'll return to Edinburgh for Year 4, but she heard yesterday they'd secured accommodation - it's been a real struggle even searching with others outside the group. A busy but positive month coming up.

Well, DS has been invited to his first uni friends wedding - it will be in 2023! Didn't expect that to happen so soon.
Last wedding he went to I think we had to take a sticker book and some cars to keep him quiet! Doesn't seem like 5 mins ago.

Benjispruce4 · 25/08/2022 14:01

Wow @blametheparents are they both ex students?

blametheparents · 25/08/2022 14:16

@Benjispruce4 Yes, DS lived with one of them this year.

Ragwort · 25/08/2022 18:10

My DS has already attended two Uni friends weddings Shock. One last Sept and one this Easter. And he's now been asked to be best man at the next one Grin ....

bigTillyMint · 25/08/2022 18:27

😱 @Ragwort! Tell me they were mature students!

bigTillyMint · 25/08/2022 18:28

Saying that, two of my best friends from uni married a year or two after leaving - both couples still very happily married.

LouisCatorze · 25/08/2022 18:34

When I was a student (sounding really old here), the only people who got married straight out of uni tended to be the uber religious ones for whom sex before marriage was frowned upon if not forbidden.

MargaretThursday · 25/08/2022 18:39

I got married year after uni, and dh was still doing his DPhil.
I was the first of my peers but we attended around 6 weddings a year for the next 3 years of our peers! Almost all are still married too.

Ragwort · 25/08/2022 18:49

bigtilly - no Shock one was the year above DS but the other three were third year students...I think they all met at the start of Uni .... DS is now returning for his fourth year after a placement year.

bigTillyMint · 25/08/2022 19:20

None of my DCs friends are even close to tying the knot AFAIK - it seems so young!

VanCleefArpels · 25/08/2022 21:20

Wow! Hardly any of my kids’ close circle are even in relationships let alone anywhere near marriage!

Ragwort · 25/08/2022 22:04

I agree - I would be very disappointed if my DS was in a serious relationship at this age (although I often think back to my first boyfriend at Uni - I broke up as I thought I was too young to have a serious relationship... but 40+ years later I still think very fondly of him Blush).

LouisCatorze · 26/08/2022 08:41

Maybe it's an emerging Gen. Z trend? In the same way as many fewer of them drink alcohol? Perhaps we're looking at a very different core value set?

@Ragwort that's lovely that you still think fondly of your first love.

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2022 09:29

@LouisCatorze, I don’t think I’ve met any that drink less alcohol. Obviously don’t mix in the right circles!

RampantIvy · 26/08/2022 09:33

Very few of DD's friends don't drink. Just a couple for religious reasons.

LouisCatorze · 26/08/2022 11:03

I recently read an article in The Guardian about Gen X vs Gen Z. Apparently around 25% of them don't drink (partly to do with the cost and wanting to stay more in control due to how it impacts their mental health adversely when they've been drinking). DS is one of that number and it's not for religious reasons with him, although when he was at school many of his friends were from Asian backgrounds so he was not socialising in a drinking culture from mid-teens.

LouisCatorze · 02/09/2022 14:38

Will start a new thread when the thread gets a bit livelier again Wink, maybe coinciding the start of the new academic year, imminently.

RedHelenB · 03/09/2022 08:32

That's a good idea. Dd2 has gone back to her student house for a hut but is coming home again for a couple of weeks before her masters starts

LouisCatorze · 03/09/2022 15:00

Good luck to your DD with her Masters @RedHelenB .
