Thought I would start a new thread as its likely to fill up quick now.

So here we are after many months of applications, assessments and interviews. The wait is finally over for those with DC who have applied to Oxford. Those with Cambridge applicants have another 2 weeks to wait until the 25th Jan (bummer!!)

You have all been a lovely bunch to share this journey with and I wish your dc nothing but the BEST OF LUCK for tomorrow (and the 25th). Flowers

Wonderful to see that ‘normal service’ has resumed @TangoWhiskyAlphaTango Smile
Thinking of all counting the sleeps until next Tuesday Flowers- I found this part to be the worst of the emotional rollercoaster that is an ‘Oxbridge application’
Dunno if this will help, but me and DD did a mega ‘spring clean’ - which was long overdue- and a de-clutter of shite last weekend.
A cheeky bottle of fizz was chilling in the fridge and a takeaway planned no matter what the outcome was
On moving on’ day - fab analogy @ealingwestmum- we did two full car loads Blush to the charity shop and tip

ealingwestmum · 20/01/2022 19:45

and a de-clutter of shite last weekend Grin

Fabulous distraction Proggy, DD is a hoarder, takes after MIL. If we need any toiletries or medication, she has the whole of Superdrug stashed under her bed. Her idea of decluttering is checking and chucking out by sell-by date.

Stockpot · 20/01/2022 21:24

Just chatting with DD. She doesn’t expect to get an offer on Tuesday, but she said she enjoyed the process. Knowing she would be interviewed gave a her the excuse to step away from her normal studies and read around her subject without feeling guilty. As she read, she started to notice connections and the dialogue/debate contemporaries were having around the subject. She realised she enjoyed her subject, loved learning and would like to work with ideas. She thinks going into academia, the civil service or a think tank would be ideal jobs.
So while a rejection would hurt, she is already acknowledging that the experience of preparing and trying has benefited her.

I can’t really ask for more. I hope all the DC can find a benefit to having a crack at it, whatever the outcome.

doubleshotcappuccino · 21/01/2022 01:45

@Stockpot we are very much at that point too .. neither DH or I even thought about applying to C and she's so much to get here and read deeper into her subject .. she's better for the experience of applying and we've enjoyed being part of that

doubleshotcappuccino · 21/01/2022 01:49

@ProggyMat brilliant ! Our distractions include ( apart from
Mocks) watching videos on YouTube of the other places she applied to.. typing in walking tour do the searches gives some great results of long, slow, videos of people waking through the towns she might go to - perfect for these waiting day. Bath looks beautiful. Other distractions include random cooking and fighting with siblings who do a great job of keeping her grounded with comments such as " we're taking your room as soon as you've gone"

doubleshotcappuccino · 21/01/2022 01:50

to the searches on YouTube **

Panicmode1 · 21/01/2022 05:34

@stockpot that sounds very a healthy attitude. Fingers crossed she gets a positive surprise on Tuesday

@doubleshotcappucino Bath is beautiful. As a teen, I used to spend Saturdays there, getting the bus to and from school (which took hours!) so we could shop and meet boys from our equivalent Catholic school.

4 more sleeps to go (or nights of insomnia, depending!)

Thank you for all the mentions you lovely lot and so nice to see the regulars back in time for next week - eeeekkkkk not long now!! The time went really quick until the O results but these past 2 weeks have dragged.

Fellow HSPSers please please come back and let me know how your DC have got on and the very best of luck to them.

@doubleshotcappuccino DD does this. There is some Youtuber who was a C reject last year and ended up at Bath. He posts a lot about his experience so far and of his freshers week and their Xmas snowBALL. DD thought it looked amazing, so much so she said she no longer wanted to go to C but then declared last night she had changed her mind Grin Bless her either way I think she will be really happy. Bath is one of my favourite places in the country so I will have a big excuse to visit often.

DD off for a night out in Brum to celebrate a friends 18th, which is nice as she doesnt get to see them much since we moved away last summer. A much needed night out and distraction from mocks / results. I think DD is going to love Uni life as she loves a party!

Thats so sweet! I know on Tuesday either way the first thing I will do is inform my MN friends! DD is leaving her phone at home in the morning and will be legging it home for lunch so we can open the email together. Christ it will be nerve wracking even though we are suspecting a no there is always that slim hope/ chance it will be a yes.

@piggywaspushed is another with a DC applying for HSPS

I've just had to do a double check as DS thinks it's the 25th on Wednesday.
It's been such a long wait!

Piggywaspushed · 21/01/2022 17:03

Just checking in, after lengthy period in hiding lurking!

I had a day off today and DS had a day off as exams finished yesterday. Took him to Pizza Express . I asked him how he was feeling about Tuesdays and he said' What's Tuesday?' ! Bless him.

He did say he won't mind so long as he isn't the only one of his small group who have applied who gets rejected.

PermanentTemporary · 21/01/2022 17:32

Annoyingly the long wait has let the green shoots of hope grow - i think i was more realistic on the day of the O offers, it seemed ridiculous that ds could have an offer. Oh well. We'll soon know.

JulesJules · 21/01/2022 17:33

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango glad to see you unflounce! Best of luck to your DD for next week. Fwiw, my D1 went to an ordinary state school in the NE, her year (2020 entry) they got 3 into Oxford and 5 into Cambridge, two of those for HSPS.

ACloseMatch · 21/01/2022 17:47

DD, who has really not mentioned it at all just came in from school and said she'd worked out her chances of an offer. She came up with a higher chance than I've seen others mention here, but she isn't doing maths as an A Level Grin. Stats not a strength clearly.

She's one of only two applicants at her school, so fairly high profile with the staff. I hope they are there for her either way. The school has only ever had one person be accepted so it's a big deal for them too.

On the actual upside, she has decided she's ok with her sole offer and it might actually be fun. DH and I have always felt she'd love the city her offer is from, and if she doesn't get a C offer, it will suit her beautifully.

HoneyMobster · 21/01/2022 18:01

Welcome back @Piggywaspushed !

Piggywaspushed · 21/01/2022 18:06

Thank you honey! Smile

Yay, hello @piggywaspushed. Love that your DS is so relaxed...wish mine was. Between pre mock stress and C offers, I will be quite pleased to get a decision next week, so that he has one less thing to stress over 😀

It's a lot of pressure for them isn't it? Sounds like she has her head screwed on though with her offer, hope she gets her other responses soon such a tense time for our teens (and us Mums!) 😬

Can anyone with a child holding an Oxford offer help with a UCAS question?
DS was told not to make applications to other universities until after he heard from Oxford (told this by his VIth form).
Now he's had an offer from Oxford he wants to apply to other places as he's not sure the Oxford course is right for him.
The UCAS website is saying he can't apply anywhere else!
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Did he literally just apply to Oxford? That's astonishingly risky! I find it hard to believe a school would really have said that - are you sure he didn't misunderstand? Having said that, I thought the deadline for applications was this coming Wednesday (26 Jan) so I'm not sure why he can't now apply (although he'd have to pay extra I think). Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to answer.
Piggywaspushed · 22/01/2022 09:25

Has he accepted the Oxford offer?

SuffolkBargeWoman · 22/01/2022 09:31

Hi @Chilldonaldchill he was told to only apply to Oxford as that would increase his chances, and apply to the other places afterwards.
@Piggywaspushed not yet, will that be the problem? Can he only put in other applications if he turns down the Oxford place?
