@PresentingPercy - yes agree. Theology for Ministry didn't seem to offer many of the answers in this series, although in her defence, she may have been a bit slower on the buzzer than some of the younger more agile minds! I liked the way Warwick had an average age of just 22. That's how it should be. A friend of DS1's was in the Imperial team this year - they were excellent. Another team that stood out for me were Strathclyde.

Line of Duty is way too complicated for my simple mind and I hate all the confusing acronyms they use. Vera is more my level.... I absolutely love her!!!

maggiethecat · 06/04/2021 14:15

The Warwick team had some scarily serious looking faces! Was rooting for Cambridge but Warwick were a good all round team.

LoonvanBoon · 06/04/2021 14:16

Presentingpercy, is this series of Line of Duty better than the last one? I found seasons 1-3 gripping, 4 exciting but less convincing and the last one just dire. Are they still all banging on about the identity of H etc. ?

Must try Vera: do you know if they use the plots of the books, midlife, or are they more just based on the characters? I've read a few Ann Cleeves books - they're well-plotted and not too gruesome, which is frankly all I ask when I'm in a detective fiction comfort-reading mood!

MidLifeCrisis007 · 06/04/2021 14:28

@LoonvanBoon.

I think the character is based on the novels - but this link suggests she's only written 9 novels... and there's been that many series of Vera anncleeves.com/vera/

LoonvanBoon · 06/04/2021 14:36

Ah ok, that makes sense. I know that with Shetland they finished doing the books too, and the last couple of series were fresh stories presumably created by the screenwriters. Still good though!

MidLifeCrisis007 · 06/04/2021 14:53

Yes - I loved Shetland. Some incredible scenery up there. Shame about the weather though!

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 06/04/2021 18:53

Firstly, congratulations to those with offers, especially medicine which must be the hardest year for a place.

@bendmeoverbackwards I binged Unforgotten season 4 and just watched 5 episodes saving the last one for the actual night as I didn't want any spoilers. I did also skip through season 3 to remind myself what had happened previously. Love Unforgotten, such a great series.

We also managed a day trip to Durham, Ds loved it. We had watched lots of walking round Durham videos so it felt like he knew it well. We had a walk around the middle of the college too and we are planning to go back in Summer.

bendmeoverbackwards · 06/04/2021 18:59

@OnTheBenchOfDoom glad to hear Durham was a success. Has your ds firmed up?

@PresentingPercy as usual dh and I are late to the Line of Duty party (we only watched Downton last summer Grin), we have watched Seasons 1 and 2 and are halfway through 3. I wasn't sure about the first season, I couldn't get into it and found it hard to follow. Season 2 however was fantastic! Really enjoying Season 3 too, so clever how they introduce a new storyline but pick up the previous one.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 06/04/2021 19:13

@bendmeoverbackwards yes he has firmed Durham with Warwick as his insurance which is actually higher in grades but he didn't want Leeds or Manchester so just put it for the sake of putting it.

Please, no spoilers for TV shows I haven't watched all seasons of yet. Dh has been ridiculously busy as his work is related to covid so he hasn't had much free time.

chopc · 06/04/2021 21:23

I am a fan of both series. DH and I watched line of duty together and started to watch the latest series of unforgotten but couldn't get into it. Will try again another day.

Feeling a little nostalgic my youngest DC is becoming a teenager tomorrow .........

@OnTheBenchOfDoom great to hear your DS is sorted.

@bendmeoverbackwards how is your DD? Is she in better spirits after having some time away from school?

Pumpkintopf · 07/04/2021 11:15

Happy birthday to your youngest chopc! Hope it's a good birthday given all the restrictions- at least we can garden socialise.

DH and I have a week off work this week which is wonderful since dc are also off - late starts and long dog walks Grin

ChimneyPot · 07/04/2021 11:45

Happy birthday to your new teenager chopc.

DD got accepted to Brown University in the US yesterday. The email came at midnight and she was very excited to be accepted but said she would not even start thinking about a decision until today.
She has to decide by May 3.
It is a choice between Brown and Georgetown.

She has been to Georgetown, knows it and loves it. She has never been to Brown but really likes their open curriculum. I think Brown is meant to be quite alternative.

I will try not to influence her but would prefer her to go to Georgetown.

How exciting for her and how lovely to have such a decision to make between 2 fab places.
PresentingPercy · 07/04/2021 12:54

@LoonvanBoon
There are "dictionaries" for Line of Duty acronyms! We have sort of got used to them! Yes, H is still mentioned by Ted. Others have noved on and links are there with past characters. I think there is enough of a plot to keep us entertained.

Good to see offers coming through.

chopc · 07/04/2021 14:33

Thank you @Pumpkintopf and @ChimneyPot

@ChimneyPot congratulations on Brown! Your daughter is definitely set on US Unis?

@ChimneyPot that's brilliant news! Congratulations to your DD!

quest1on · 07/04/2021 17:46

ChimneyPot - that’s amazing news! Good for her (and you)!

Longtimenewsee · 07/04/2021 18:19

Very exciting news @ChimneyPot. Congrats to your Dd!

Millylovespuddles · 07/04/2021 18:45

Chimney - delighted to hear your news.... how exciting! Has she any favourites at the minute?

BigWoollyJumpers · 08/04/2021 12:32

So the summer term invoice is in.... and...... £338 for examination fees Angry. Seems a lot for three certificates, maybe they are gold edged.

ChimneyPot · 08/04/2021 17:26

Thanks everyone.

On the U.K. v US I think it really came down to what offers/acceptances she got. She didn’t get an offer from Oxford, which was her first choice in the U.K. and still hasn’t heard from St Andrews which was her second choice.
She has been accepted into 2 of her top 3 choices in the US and she doesn’t have to wait for exam results.

At the moment I think she is favouring Brown because of their open curriculum which means she can mix all sorts of subjects. So applied maths with International relations.
But she is going to do online events for accepted students in both colleges before she decides.

chopc · 08/04/2021 19:21

When I was a student I dreamt of studying in the US

SeasonFinale · 09/04/2021 12:16
