Nearly filled up the old one...

@JulesJules oh I know it’s ridiculous just hoping to give people some reassurance that we will eventually get information.

ofteninaspin · 05/04/2021 18:43

Yes, I’m furious too about the lecturers’ union.

Hoghgyni · 05/04/2021 18:57

Tweeting furiously. Michelle Donelan & Gavin Williamson are an absolute waste of space.

ofteninaspin · 05/04/2021 19:30

Likewise @Hoghgyni.

Wreckofthehespers · 05/04/2021 19:38

I have emailed No.10 to complain about the silence on students' return. I was checking term dates, and it looks like some universities actually start their terms on 12 April (Manchester, according to its website). Which means they should have said something today!!

I am so angry - they said education was a priority, they said young people's mental health was a priority ..

So strange that NOTHING is in the coverage. No questions asked of No 10, or Williamson about this at all.

Hoghgyni · 05/04/2021 19:46

Usually my MP is swift 9f the marking I write to him. Nothing this time. No. 10 simply forward emails to Gav for him to ignore.

Hoghgyni · 05/04/2021 19:46

...off the mark...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/04/2021 20:06

Trying to avoid sounding paranoid, it shows how little control we have when it comes to getting things noticed by the media.

sandybayley · 05/04/2021 20:21

What is needed is an influential columnist with children who are students. Caitlin Moran?

PantTwizzler · 05/04/2021 21:13

A friend’s DP writes on Education for one of the papers. Maybe I should have a word...

PantTwizzler · 05/04/2021 21:14

My Mp, to her credit, emailed me straight back and said she’d raised it with Gavin Williamson.
Maybe Private Eye?? They are good at holding the govt to account.

Hoghgyni · 05/04/2021 21:18

Well, we need to get Jools Oliver on the case. Her daughter is a fresher in halls at Nottingham!

polkadotclip · 05/04/2021 21:21

The problem with this is that students aren't children. They are grown adults. Any chance you'd back off and let them live their lives?

Hoghgyni · 05/04/2021 21:28

The Jools comment is tongue in cheek BTW. She accidentally posted last year which halls her daughter was going into & was immediately inundated with people trying to find out if Jamie would be sending food parcels if they got locked down and if their eldest could cook.

As I was saying, we do want them to live their lives, just not in a bedroom in their parents' house.

Flyonawalk · 05/04/2021 22:17

@Hoghgyni Exactly - well put.

PantTwizzler · 05/04/2021 22:51

Oh goody, a new commenter telling us what we’re getting wrong Hmm

SnapSnapDragon · 05/04/2021 23:06

That criticism made me laugh. It possibly has a kernel of truth in it in other contexts but doesn't quite work in this one. Odd.

Re no info on unis returning I'm lost for words. It doesn't make sense (my constant refrain for the past, well, year)

DS planning to return on Monday. He is looking forward to a normal term. He might be in for a shock.

ofteninaspin · 06/04/2021 07:18

Haha - the irony of the new poster’s comments 🙄
DD’s college posted a video last week saying college was waiting for the go ahead from Boris this weekend to welcome students back this week.....DD is practically packed and ready to go.....

SnapSnapDragon · 06/04/2021 08:57

Perhaps the new poster's comments were directed at the government?

Hoghgyni · 06/04/2021 10:51

Do we think the new poster is Desmond Swayne or Charles Walker? Anyone else fancy chipping in from the Covid Recovery Group of MPs?

Flyonawalk · 06/04/2021 19:44

I am glad to see that at least the Guardian are covering the issue. Ignoring university students is shameful. They will remember this at the ballot box I hope.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2021 08:04

I can't read this article, but it seems that the Telegraph are covering it too now.
