@PantTwizzler - you should be very proud! I'm proud in your behalf.

@OhYouBadBadKitten - I feel your frustration but I fear we need to wait until Monday. I reckon we'll hear something then when the PM confirms the 12/04 non-essential retail opening.

Big congrats to your DD PantTwizzler.

Here's hoping for a return to a much more normal Cambridge next term for your DS, and that things will flow better from there.

Ironoaks · 31/03/2021 21:17

@PantTwizzler - congratulations to your DD!

@OhYouBadBadKitten - the more national restrictions ease, the more frustrated I am that DS isn't allowed in a lab or in his college (despite its strict social distancing measures and a well-established university asymptomatic testing programme).

Malbecfan · 31/03/2021 21:18

Congratulations to your DD @PantTwizzler, that's amazing!

@goodbyestranger I think you are correct. One of DD's friends returned to C last week from Eastern Europe but has to isolate in her room. She had a negative test so was allowed to exercise in the college garden but the police turned up to check on her at the time she was outside. Now DD is wondering if she will have to isolate until her routine test next Wednesday. I have spare LFTs as both my schools gave me a box but one test satisfies each establishment. However, DD is not sure if that will count.

DD has spent today trying to get her Masters report under the word count. When I came in from school she was struggling, but by the time we had dinner, she reckoned she had done it. I think it's worth 37% of this year's marks. She did a presentation last year that carries 3% and then each of her 3 exams in May/June is worth 20%. She is planning on meeting her schoolfriends on a beach on Friday then we are heading back on Saturday. Thank goodness I break up from school tomorrow. This term has been horrific. I just have 150+ blues songs to mark and 21 Extended Projects to assess over the holiday Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/03/2021 21:28

That's brilliant PantTwizzler! Well done to your dd!

mutterphore · 31/03/2021 21:28

PantTwizzler, massive well done to your DD and also very well done to your DS for managing at all this term. I hope things get better for him and just getting a place at Oxbridge at all is an amazing achievement. If only he and everyone else can get back to a more normal student life next term, then that would be really brilliant.

Ironoaks, I'm with you with the frustration at seeing so many other parts of life getting more back to normal, yet still nothing like normal at all for our student DCs. No contact with peers, no social life, no developing independence - only essays and studying at home. Not much of a life for our young ones.

DS1 (C) has had half his term feedback from the young supervisor and was very pleased with this but nothing yet from the other one - of course.

Lovely to hear of Pant's DD confounding expectations!

I played an April Fool's Day joke on DS this morning with a rather convincing letter from Oxford informing him that he had been tried in absentia by the university proctors for bringing the name of the university into disrepute. The outcome was a decree of "bannimus". DS read the letter to himself, quietly put it to one side and the only indication of his racing mind was a slight flush. I put him out of his misery in the end.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/04/2021 16:04

ooo that's mean Snap Grin

dd informs me that over the last four weeks of pcr testing that most of the students take part in, there have been no cases of covid.

That's no cases in 4000 students who are back.

Hoghgyni · 01/04/2021 17:08

Standing ovation to Pants DD.

JulesJules · 01/04/2021 18:17

Snap !! Grin Has he forgiven you yet?

Well done to Pant's DCs.

Hoghgyni · 01/04/2021 20:35

Oh my goodness, Snap, you are wicked!

CinnamonJellyBeans · 01/04/2021 21:47

Congratulations to your daughter PantTwizzler. You must be so proud.

PantTwizzler · 01/04/2021 22:56

Thanks all. Very kind. We’re still reeling!

@SnapSnapDragon — breathtaking!! I was almost taken in myself...!

Unescorted · 02/04/2021 16:36

Pants - well done to your DD.

DD has had enough of here and the memory of the rubbish food has faded. She is returning on 20th. The lure of a social life behind closed gates is too exciting.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 04/04/2021 12:55

boat race at 3pm

sandybayley · 04/04/2021 13:05

Come on you dark blues!

DadDadDad · 04/04/2021 13:31

Women's race at 3:50pm, men's race at 4:50pm.

Unescorted · 04/04/2021 13:52

The TV is booked here too. We are becoming instant experts in all things rowing here.....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/04/2021 15:51

Come on light minty blues!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/04/2021 15:58

budge over Oxford!

Hoghgyni · 04/04/2021 18:40

DD has taken up the challenge of a College rowing session tomorrow. She has never been in a rowing boat in her life.

sandybayley · 04/04/2021 18:48

Uh oh. It's harder than you think. I took a course when DD was rowing. Tell her to prepare for sore hands and bashed knuckles!

Unescorted · 04/04/2021 18:51

I suspect there are a lot of recruits post boat race.

ofteninaspin · 04/04/2021 19:10

Belated congratulations to your DD @PantTwizzler. That is fab news!

PantTwizzler · 04/04/2021 19:52

Three dark blues and one light blue here and a lot of keenness on rowing. Very disappointing results... for most of us.
