Have all your DCs got their timetable for the semester about to start yet?

DS2 claims no sign of his yet, and as he starting to get a bit irritated by it I’m fairly sure it’s not a case of not looking in the right place.

icanbewhatiwant · 10/09/2021 12:59

@boys3 no. Mine hasn't got his timetable. He's had an email about his dissertation. It was a 13,000 word email. So I don't think he read it all. He's too busy working at the moment.

NotSorry · 10/09/2021 20:52

No timetables here - we had the conversation today about it

MarchingFrogs · 11/09/2021 16:43

DS2 is coming to join the UEA 'family' next Sunday. He says that he had only been told 'Sunday' as an arrival day and has neither been allocated, nor asked to apply for, a more specific time to arrive. This is backed up by a friend re her experience last year (I have no reason to doubt her word and she obviously didn't 'do' her arrival wrong, so to speak) but I am rather twitched after DS1's very rigid 15 / 20 minute allocation at BirminghamShock. And although we are 'only' just over 100 miles from Norwich, I'd hate to get him there at, say, 1pm, only to find that he should have been there between 9.45 and 10. Is it likely that he has missed some vital message, or is UEA really so laid-back about moving in?

icanbewhatiwant · 11/09/2021 17:17

@MarchingFrogs we had time slots 2 years ago. I think it was only half hour. But I might be wrong (about half hour)

MarchingFrogs · 11/09/2021 22:52

@icanbewhatiwant, thanks - he says he has tried to find out more, but hit some kind of technical difficulty. I'll prompt him to try to get hold of someone on Monday if he still can't see anything.

sluj · 12/09/2021 07:55

There is lots of moaning on the "Concrete confessions" (yes, I know) Facebook page from UEA students who haven't got their timetables yet so I think it's a general issue.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/09/2021 08:43

It's amazing isn't it that they've effectively had months to sort out timetabling but haven't done it.

@sluj thanks for introducing me to the 'Concrete confessions' FB page!

I must admit I thought on arrival day for DS2 it was select day, as opposed to a time slot even.

It was very slick, albeit in pre-Covid times. I can remember just being struck by no queues on the approach road, no queues on site, and the worst thing that happened being directed into the main car park and then straight out again. Smile

sluj · 12/09/2021 10:58

@NewModelArmyMayhem18, that FB page can be a bit of an eye opener sometimes and it will really make you feel old. Grin

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 12/09/2021 11:04

@boys3 it seems so long ago since DS started that I cannot remember what the arrival arrangements were. Except we arrived by public transport and I don't remember being in too much of a panic (so assuming they were more generous than half-hour slots?).

Waving hello to you all experienced UEA parents. DS is moving in on Saturday and I wondered if any you would be ably to recommend a nice place to have lunch in? I appreciate that it is going to be a busy day, but if you know a good restaurant/pub/cafe which might not get completely swamped by the parents dropping their DC off, please let me know Smile. Thank you.

sluj · 15/09/2021 10:23

Welcome @hattifatteners ! Congratulations to your DS Smile
We usually stick around on campus and ideally, the cafe in the Sainsbury Centre. I'm not sure how busy it would be though.
We also like the Georgian Townhouse in Norwich and the King's Head in Bawburgh. Both have car parks but you may need to book first.
Where is your DS staying? We might have some tips Grin

Hattifatteners · 15/09/2021 12:21

Thank you @sluj, much appreciated. DS is staying in the Victory House on the campus. He applied with a deferred entry, so this has been long time coming. I really liked UEA when we first visited on the open day.

sluj · 15/09/2021 17:58

I'm sure he will really enjoy it. My 3rd year is looking forward to some of the things going on in Freshers week. Its nice to think they can have some fun again Smile

Softpebbles · 15/09/2021 19:00

@Hattifatteners we are moving in on Saturday too! We have a 12-13.00 slot.

Hope it’s ok to jump on the thread!

Hattifatteners · 15/09/2021 19:11

Fabulous @Softpebbles! DS was 'bit late' booking the slot Hmm. Typical of him. We will be moving at 3pm.

Hattifatteners · 15/09/2021 19:14

@sluj freshers sound good fun. It really is time for the young people to get out and do stuff. DS hasn't really been out much during the past year and it is not good for them.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 16/09/2021 07:03

@Softpebbles and @Hattifatteners wishing your DC every success at UEA. Hope the moving-in goes well.

Does anyone know if the timetables have been released yet?!

Softpebbles · 16/09/2021 10:50

Thank you :)

I am nervous about the 3 hours drive there and back, DD states that you are only allowed one parent to drop off so its going to be a long day!

Hattifatteners · 16/09/2021 11:10

@Softpebbles both DH and I are going. We have a long drive too and hate the idea driving on our own. One can sit in the car, or potter around the campus Smile
Thank you @NewModelArmyMayhem18

sluj · 16/09/2021 12:11

To be honest, I don't remember campus being that busy when either DS moved in. There was a slight queue to get in the sports hall to pick up keys, campus card etc where one parent would be better than two. After that, we drove round to the Ziggurats where a group of students were ready to help us carry stuff in. Maybe let one parent go to the signing in part ( or neither) then both try and help with the unloading. There are some good coffee places on campus if one of you needs to wait for half an hour.
The A11 is a great road generally and you will have great fun spotting other fresher cars and deer Grin We like to stop at the Sainsburys in Thetford ( just off the A11) for last minute fresh food buying. I can also recommend La Hogue farm cafe for a nice lunch on the way 😋

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 16/09/2021 13:28

Our DD moving in on Saturday afternoon to Nelson Court - very exciting!

icanbewhatiwant · 16/09/2021 19:39

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 Ds has his timetable. But apparently it's all wrong. He has 9 of each lecture at the same time each day. Not quite sure how they managed that. So first day he has 9 lectures at 9am in the same room 😂 I told him he probably has a lecture at 9am then! But at least it's f2f at the moment.

boys3 · 16/09/2021 20:19

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 DS2 has a timetable of sorts, not wholly sure if it is complete or not. Has two 9am seminars, but at least different days, so far less impressive than @icanbewhatiwant's DCs nine at the same time. I never knew UEA offered a time travel degree. Grin

He's a bit miffed that he didn't get one of his module selections, although did get his first back up choice. Not clear if the one he didn't get was oversubscribed or just not being run.

Separate to all that : 100 days 'til Christmas. Not strictly relevant to the thread of course.
