I can’t really see the point of getting the score today. If you’ve done not so well you’ll be sad, and if you have done well you’ll be even more keyed up and hopeful about tomorrow...

And reading the student room, there are plenty of anecdotes about applicants getting great scores and losing out to those who had much worse ones.

It does make some sense to find out after decisions are out, so that someone can make an informed choice about whether to have another stab.

beethecrackon24995 · 11/01/2021 13:17

I agree irma. Dd has said she has no interest in looking at her score until after she gets a pass or rejection. Fwiw a friend of hers who applied but didn't get an interview got a score of 44

Stitchintimesaves9 · 11/01/2021 13:30

@IrmaFayLear that's very much DD's reasoning!

par05 · 11/01/2021 13:40

Was just coming in here to ask if anyone has had the Elat test results yet, my dd hasn't as yet as doing her online work, but thinks she did really bad and is not sure she wants to find out. Good luck to those applying to oxford for tomorrow 🤞 some really good ideas to mark the day and agree this thread as been a massive support even though I don't post often, it has helped a lot to just read through and know we not alone and all in the same boat so to speak x

RunnersTipple · 11/01/2021 13:42

Just dropping in to say good luck for Oxford applicants tomorrow. DS is trying to put all thoughts of Cambridge out of his mind for now.

bendmeoverbackwards · 11/01/2021 13:47

Where can you find the aptitude test results?

Unescorted · 11/01/2021 13:50

Good luck for tomorrow. Dd got her offer mid morning by email. Because she was not allowed her mobile in class she was trying not to shout out. Her Boyf got his offer much earlier in the day.

fabtasticmrpox · 11/01/2021 13:54

bendoverbackwards I think they got told how to get them when they sat the test .
I did mention it to dd who looked straight away and is pleased with her score . She hasn't found out her MLAT score though .

Hoghgyni · 11/01/2021 14:00

DD had a registration letter from Cambridge Assessment. I think she had to register for the results before they were released.

Just wanted to wish all applicants very good luck with Oxford offers tomorrow and for Cambridge further ahead (25th?)

I've been reading this thread with great interest and sympathy having been in a similar position - DS was an Oxbridge re-applicant having received his A level results in 2019. He was rejected by Oxford after interview and decided to reapply to Cambridge and is now in his first year - albeit not quite the start he had envisaged, but despite that enjoying it all.

I remember he received an email at about 9.30am from his Cambridge college and a follow up letter the next day I think.

For what it's worth, he had a really terrible first interview and was not expecting an offer at all - so don't lose heart anyone!

And for a different perspective altogether, my DD was also rejected by Oxford a few years before but she decided to take up her offer at Durham and had the most fantastic experience there - she loved it and says she was really glad that she didn't pursue a second Oxbridge application. She's currently waiting to start a training contract in London this summer, fingers crossed she might be able to do it in person rather than face to face.

I feel very much for all young people right now - whichever way you look at it I think it's been very tough for them. Whether they are in the current A level cohort, first years at university or those going to graduate this summer - and of course not forgetting last year's young people who had to leave university in such a rush with no graduation and also no opportunity to sit their A levels. So very sad for them all.

But looking ahead, I am sure that whatever these offers bring your children will be happy wherever they end up. The very fact that they are in a position to apply is fantastic!

IrmaFayLear · 11/01/2021 14:46

Thanks for your kind words, PortusCale.

Dd looks white as a sheet and is wandering aimlessly around the house. No one is mentioning anything, but it is hanging in the air....

Beetlesand · 11/01/2021 14:51

Aww thank you for your thoughtful post @PortusCale. Wise words.
Dd’s first interview with Cambridge went badly ( second a bit better) but she is lucky to have a contextual offer from Durham. She is rather exhausted by the drawn out application process at Cambridge so we have decided that come what may, we will be celebrating on the 25th - either a surprise offer from Cambridge or it finally being over so that she can firm up a great offer from Durham . Smile

sandybayley · 11/01/2021 15:00

Best of luck to you all tomorrow. DS1 did TSA last year and got an OK but not brilliant score and still got an offer. It didn't form part of the selection criteria for his course but it still worried him the day before offers came out.

So I'd suggest not looking for the score today. Wait until tomorrow. They'll only spend 24 hours pondering over what the score means...

LaundryFairy · 11/01/2021 15:39

Thank you for your kind words and advice @PortusCale - I'm in danger of getting a bit emotional...

A final good luck to all of the DC waiting on Oxford tomorrow. Hugs, tissues and plenty of cake at the ready!

CoolKittens · 11/01/2021 15:59

Good luck Oxford peeps - I'm nervous and excited for you all.

HuaShan · 11/01/2021 16:28

Another one popping on to wish you all the best for tomorrow and for Cambridge later in the month - DS was a successful Oxford candidate last year and I remember the agony of waiting. Last year DS's Trac updated quite late - I remember he waited until morning break to check. The email from college came some hours later.
Whatever the outcome, your ds have all done amazingly well to face the peculiar challenges this year of missed schooling, remote assessment/interviews, and now cancelled exams. They are all resilient young people and will do well wherever they go.
Fingers tightly crossed for all.

DeRigueurMortis · 11/01/2021 16:32

Good luck to all the Oxford applicants tomorrow 🤞

WarmAndco3y · 11/01/2021 16:49

All the very best for the Oxford candidates. Hoping you all get the news you want.
As we wait a bit longer for Cambridge, I hope to cheer for you all tomorrow Smile

chopc · 11/01/2021 17:01

I am bricking it and my DC applied to Cambridge! All the VERY best to the Oxford applicants! No matter what their future will be bright 💪🏽

ofteninaspin · 11/01/2021 18:16

All the very best for Oxford outcomes tomorrow. DD (now in third year) received her offer in the post. DS a (Cambridge fresher) got an email mid-morning followed by a letter in the post.

Crikeyblimey · 11/01/2021 18:19

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow. DS is Cambridge but I’m really rooting for everyone for tomorrow. 🤞🤞🤞

FlyingSquid · 11/01/2021 18:35

@IrmaFayLear

Thanks for your kind words, PortusCale.

I have handily distracted dd by needing a COVID test.

Fortunately she’d already stocked up on cake ingredients and G&T.

Abetes · 11/01/2021 18:44

Good luck. My dd is in her second year at Oxford. She found out at abt 11am at school, track updated and (by coincidence I’m sure) then got an email from college a couple of minutes later. Hope there are lots of offers tomorrow.

What do they study? Did they feel positive about interview my dd said first was good but second not!!
whiteroseredrose · 11/01/2021 19:01

Good luck to everyone's DC for Oxford tomorrow and Cambridge later.

DD reminded me this afternoon, as I'd been trying not to say anything. She wasn't overwhelmingly invested in Oxford at first but there weren't that many Unis she liked that much. However she really enjoyed the interviews and was enthused.

She said that the problem is that if she doesn't get an Oxford offer she'll have to decide between Durham and Leeds. And that will be a struggle.

Ah well. Let's cross those bridges when we come to them.
