Thank you @WithIcePlease - and I agree, there are definitely still many more offers to come from plenty of Medical Schools. It's just taking so long this year isn't it which is tough.

@MaddieElla I hope your dd is feeling better and managed to sort things out. The government should have known some schools will manipulate the system whilst others will follow the rules strictly. Whatever the bloody rules are.

Ds is also very stressed, his mocks are in mid May and school have told everyone they are extremely important. There's no indication as to content and ds says it feels like they're doing the actual gcses but just a month early. School don't seem to be doing any more mini tests and are all geared up for the mocks. They won't disclose which topics are covered. Everyone else I know it's doing mocks earlier and ongoing tests. Also mine all went back yesterday, they tested the students Mon- Wed then sent them home. Ds2 in yr11 already has 7 friends isolating as there have been 2 positive tests already!!!

Both ds are also wondering when their school year will end and if they'll have prom and leavers etc.

Congratulations @LaLaFlottes and @opoponax on the Sheffield offers. Brilliant news! Unfortunately my DD is on the reserve list - not surprising as it wasn't a great interview.

Thank you @redtulip12 - I am sorry to hear about the reserve list, although if I remember correctly your DD already has a couple of offers and is happy with them so hopefully she’s not to bothered about this. Maybe it makes the decision making a little easier for her

Yes @LaLaFlottes DD has two offers so knows she is already very lucky.

@opoponax the reserve list at Sheffield means that you can try and get a place if you hold no other offers so this won't work for DD. She has moved on and is now just patiently waiting to hear from one more.

Actually @redtulip12, Sheffield won't know she has other offers until she selects Firm and Insurance so there is a chance that it could convert before she does that, but on the whole I think that it is best to focus positively on the birds in hand.

Ah ok thanks @Monkey2001, the email she got just said to contact them in August if she hasn't got another place, didn't realise it could convert before then. She chose all 4 Universities because she would love to go to any of them so Sheffield is now ruled out and she is focusing on the others.

@redtulip12 I have heard of the situation Monkey described happen with an older DC. The main thing is that your DD is happy and focused on her other options. My DS is still waiting patiently for his two remaining options too.

Well we haven't heard from Sheffield yet, so that is probably a rejection (not even reserve list), as they said rejections take longer (although there have been a few on TSR). DS is a bit surprised/unsettled, as he felt the interview went really well, but I guess it is hard to know. At least he has his Nottingham offer. On the one hand, we would like to know - as everybody else seems to know about Sheffield one way or the other, so he feels like the only person in limbo. On the other hand, he has his mocks on Monday/Tuesday, and having a rejection come in just then doesn't feel great either. He did really like Sheffield.

@bimkom sadly it does not look promising. The Sheffield timeline on their website says they started 8/3 and expected to take a week to get all the offers out. When DS didn't get in first time round it was the"knowledge of city and course" which he failed and we were shocked because he had other weaknesses but know loads about the city and course. I could only conclude that he sounded too rehearsed (which he really wasn't!). Getting the questions in advance is a mixed blessing.

@bimkom I’m sorry to hear that and hope DS can focus on his offer from Nottingham. I think having the questions in advance has both advantages and disadvantages doesn’t it. DD was worried about sounding too rehearsed - having the questions in advance and not preparing to the point you may sound a bit rehearsed is tricky I think.

He’s clearly done very well to get into Nottingham 😊. Are you waiting to hear from any others too?

@LaLaFlottes - yes, we are still waiting for Liverpool, but they are only supposed to come out at the end of the month.

@Monkey2001 - that may be it, I guess. He thought it was best to be honest and tell them he had never been there (we fully intended to go for open days, but Covid scuppered that), but that from what he had read ... and he told then really quite a lot about the city (including demographics and health issues), the university and the course. And he talked about the fact that he had talked to current students who were there (which he did, both medical and non medical, to get a real sense. He did his research quite thoroughly before deciding where to pick). But maybe they didn't want someone from London who admitted it was all based on what he had heard or internet research, and not actual experience.

I'm sorry to hear that @Bimkom and agree with everything LaLa and Monkey have said about the advantages and disadvantages of having the questions in advance. It's great that your DS has his Nottingham offer though.

I'm sorry @bimkom, completely understand, my DD was upset even though she has two great offers but she has now put it behind her and like your DS is waiting on Liverpool. However she isn't getting her hopes up as thinks there will be a lot fewer offers this year. She is now focusing on the two she has in hand. Hope your DS's mocks go well this week and he can forget all about University whilst he focuses on them.

@bimkom Nottingham is great - DD is a 3rd year there and loves the city and the fact that the medical school is right in the hospital. Placements from first term at GP and on a relevant ward (so when learning about cardiac stuff they go to a cardiac ward and prod the patients). And it's a beautiful campus with a massive lake you can take boats out on. And they have trams in Notts (my DD had never seen one before). Hope that makes it seem a bit better 😊

Well, after all that, an offer has just appeared from Sheffield! They did say "about a week" after 08/03, so clearly today counts as "about". We were certainly not hopeful after receiving nothing last week, and had geared ourselves up for a rejection, so this was a nice surprise.
