Thank you @HostessTrolley and @Monkey2001. That skeleton does look fun!

Also a heads up that Sheffield are saying they have finished their post-interview analysis and are sending out offers next week.

Best purchases my DD has made (2nd year) are Kumar and Clark (I had the first edition as a Med student in the 80s which she found very amusing) Clinical Medicine - great for bridging basic science into clinical medicine- and Grays Anatomy Flashcards - the full £135 book version is too big and detailed to be useful. She has access to many online resources but still likes the access and “feel” of a book.

Hopefulmed · 05/03/2021 21:14

DD is first year at Cardiff and has found most resources available online but we did buy a Netters colouring book with e book as joke present. However, she has found that a useful and fun book to accompany her anatomy learning. They have been using Moores and other books but she found a different resource useful and a relaxed way to learn.

MaddieElla · 05/03/2021 23:44

Well I've only just come back down to earth as I jumped up and down so hard I wet myself a little bit but DD finally has an offer.

God I'm emotional tonight. I didn't realise just how stressful it's all been until she told me.

Monkey2001 · 05/03/2021 23:51

Haha @MaddieElla, congratulations! The wait has been even worse than usual this year.

LaLaFlottes · 05/03/2021 23:54

@MaddieElla amazing news! What a way to start the weekend - phew!! It’s super stressful isn’t it?
Enjoy the celebrations Star

Millylovespuddles · 06/03/2021 06:54

@MaddieElla the best news - enjoy your wonderful weekend!

emummy · 06/03/2021 07:23

Fantastic @MaddieElla! Brilliant news.
Dd has had a rejection from Dundee so it looks like she'll be heading for Glasgow. Aberdeen won't be deciding till the end of the month.

WithIcePlease · 06/03/2021 07:27

@Aperolspritz70

Hi everyone, My DD has an offer to study Medicine at Bristol and needs advice on halls! Can anyone help?
My son was in Manor Hall, Clifton in his first year at Bristol. He had a lovely big room overlooking a garden. Shower rooms were shared but his room had a sink. There was a music practice room close to his room with a piano. He loved it there and found it social without being too noisy and easy to get to Uni as well as escape into countryside.
IsThisNameTaken · 06/03/2021 10:58

Many congrats @MaddieElla - fabulous news!

DD has one 'waiting list' response so far - so taking that as a rejection unfortunately.

But still 2 weeks to wait until her final interview and her other 2 have said they won't be sending offers until the end of March .... it's a long wait!

Powergower · 06/03/2021 14:56

@MaddieElla that is fab news!

Monkey2001 · 06/03/2021 15:21

@Shorebreak I was in Manor a million years ago. Back in the '80s it was £145/term for a shared room Grin.

MaddieElla · 06/03/2021 19:18

Thanks everyone. I'm afraid I've had a champagne headache for most of today. Blush

She said she slept like a baby last night as a weight's been lifted, but she says she's a bit more stressed about achieving the grades now she's so close to getting in.

bimkom · 06/03/2021 20:29

Congratulations @MaddieElla, so pleased.

GreyBow · 07/03/2021 09:00

So pleased for you @MaddieElla

We are still in that anxious stage. Maybe DD (and I!) can sleep a bit better next weekend!

LaLaFlottes · 07/03/2021 09:24

@MaddieElla I’m glad you enjoyed your celebrations! Very well deserved Smile DD is the same and the initial high has now given way a little to worry about getting the grades - but I suppose it’s only natural Smile

@GreyBow fingers firmly crossed that this is your week - same for everyone else on this thread, posters and lurkers - sending good vibes your way Smile

@IsThisNameTaken that is a long wait - is one of them UEA by any chance? DD is waiting for them and they said recently to someone on live chat that offers would be after the 31st March.

SATSmadness · 07/03/2021 10:03

@IsThisNameTaken Does a waiting list response mean the same as a reserve list ? i.e. if not enough people with offers make their offer grades then come August results day anyone on the waiting list might be in the running for a place assuming their grades do meet the course requirements ?

I can't help but think that some of these uni's who are leaving decisions right to the end are missing out on some great students.
I know some applicants who have decided not to wait to hear from their other unis because they need to firm to apply for accommodation as it's first come first served or they want to submit their student finance application.

My DD is waiting to hear back from two. Her original favourite is expected to be late March. Her second favourite is likely to be next week. She is now saying if she is lucky enough to get an offer next week she thinks she would like to firm this one. Unfortunately this was also her worst interview so she is very worried it's going to be a rejection. We will have to wait and see.

Why do some of these universities interview so late, or wait so long before sending out decisions? Am I missing something?

MaddieElla · 07/03/2021 10:24

It's quite frustrating isn't it. Surely they know the numbers when it comes to intake. Are people working from home? Have interviews taken longer than normal to conduct? Who knows but we're mid March and so many decisions are still outstanding. After 31st March is Shock

DD would like to firm so she can book the accommodation which is FCFS. But if she withdraws she'll never know if she'd have received an offer and I think she'd at least like to know that.

Here's hoping for some more clarity for our young people this week.

mumsneedwine · 07/03/2021 10:27

@redtulip12 a lot of the interviews are carried out by staff at the medical schools, who are also practising doctors. Think they've been a bit busy this year and that's why interviews have been so late. That and having to organise everything remotely, - they've never done before. However even in a normal year decisions come in March/April.
It's tough and takes its toll. Hang in there.
