@opoponax what great news! There's something brilliant about Monday offers. Ds had his completely unexpectedly on a Monday too. Lifted the whole week.

Waiting for others on the thread to hear back now, surely it can't be much longer! Fingers crossed.

emummy · 01/03/2021 21:27

Wonderful news @opoponax!

opoponax · 01/03/2021 21:53

Thanks again everyone. So lovely to have such a supportive group. Hoping for offers for all the DC this month. It only takes one offer to change everything and to make all the stress feel worthwhile.

Card1gan · 01/03/2021 23:24

Fantastic new @opoponax, great to have another offer and a reason to have pizza and bubbles on a Monday evening.

DD only has 2 rods left in the fire and was hoping to hear back early this month after interviewing in December and early Jan. One has emailed today saying that decisions will be made within 3-4 weeks and the second is still interviewing so won't make any decisions until after they've finished. The waiting goes on.....

Good luck to everyone as they wait, I'm keeping everything crossed for you all.

Millylovespuddles · 02/03/2021 10:01

It's great to hear some more good news @opoponax

LaLaFlottes · 03/03/2021 12:41

Delighted to report DD's first offer came in this morning - phew!!

Everyone still waiting, hang in there - I'm sure there are loads more to come, but I absolutely know how stressful the wait can be.

SATSmadness · 03/03/2021 12:57

MaddieElla · 03/03/2021 13:37

Well done @LaLaFlottes DD! Fantastic, she must be so relieved.

GreyBow · 03/03/2021 14:13

Well done @LaLaFlottes ! Would you mind sharing the university? I am anxiously awaiting any for Dd 😔

LaLaFlottes · 03/03/2021 14:37

Thank you all for your congratulations - I think we will be having a glass of fizz tonight!

@GreyBow it's for St Andrews and she applied for the RUK "no preference" route.

For anyone waiting for St Andrews though, from looking at TSR it seems that just a few offers are appearing day by day so I am sure there are more to come.

bimkom · 03/03/2021 14:39

Congratulations @LaLaFlottes DD! Lovely to hear.

Millylovespuddles · 03/03/2021 14:50

@LaLaFlottes wonderful Wednesday news, enjoy your celebrations Star

Powergower · 03/03/2021 15:51

@LaLaFlottes that is brilliant news!! I know it's been a long long wait. Well done to your dd. Hope you're celebrating tonight!

Monkey2001 · 03/03/2021 16:40

Congratulations @LaLaFlottes, give me a shout if you have any St Andrews questions. It is a great medical school!

LaLaFlottes · 03/03/2021 16:49

@Monkey2001 I was hoping you might say that! Thank you - we will probably have loads of questions for you - apologies in advance. As a start could I ask if there is a certain hall of residence that most medics choose?

It's taking a while for the news to sink in for DD I think. Hopefully she may hear something about an offer holder day soon.

SeasonFinale · 03/03/2021 17:04

Newcastle has started too.

Monkey2001 · 03/03/2021 20:57

@LaLaFlottes St Andrews is so small that it does not really matter which hall you are in. The way they allocate accommodation is by type. There are 5 types and you rank your top 4. DS got his first choice (standard catered) and was given a room in University Hall which he liked so much that he is staying in the same hall next year. There is a lot of catered, I suspect it may be because historically a lot of kids have gone there from boarding schools. The catered is the best value and DS was very happy to share a bathroom as they have cleaners every day and he really liked the food. Standard catered is just over £7k pa and en suite self catered costs almost the same - so you can choose 3 meals/day plus breakfast/lunch at weekends or an en suite! DS really didn't like Agnes Blackadder, it was designed by a prison architect and sort of looks like it was (lots of corridors), but is very popular and lots of the students living there chose to return. The cheapest accom is Andrew Melville, which is very ugly on the outside, but the rooms are nice, if compact. They have 3/4 size beds. The most popular accommodation is Whitehorn standard S/C but there are 84 rooms between 9,000 undergrads, half go to new students and half to returners.

They say it does not make a difference when you apply but DS applied as soon as he could (1st April) and got his first choice, so it might make a difference.

LaLaFlottes · 03/03/2021 21:34

@Monkey2001 thank you so much that is all really useful to know.

DD is a vegetarian and can be fussy about food and likes to cook, so she was thinking self catered but I wonder if catered would be best and then she wouldn’t have to think about making time to shop etc. It sounds good value too.

That’s great your DS can return to halls for second year too. From your posts previously it sounds like he’s loving it there which is great to know.

MaddieElla · 03/03/2021 23:10

Question about Nottingham please to those in the know on this thread. Accommodation has opened now and is first come first served as I understand. Obviously offer holders are now going crazy booking halls and we’re here waiting for medicine offers.

Am I worrying unnecessarily that Nottingham offer holders that are still waiting for decisions from elsewhere and therefore cannot book accommodation might end up with shite accommodation? Or is there plenty to go around for late firmers?
