Nadisel my DS is in a similar situation he was planning to resit A level Chem and Biology as a private candidate this summer. These students were left with nothing last year and I am so worried for him :(

FanSpamTastic · 05/01/2021 18:22

Happy New Year all - not sure I am loving this particular sequel. Time for a new movie!

But LaLa is right - there will be places and some students will get to start! Fingers crossed for all the DC dealing with this at the moment. They will all have gold stars in resilience. I am sure that working in healthcare is going to seem a relative doddle compared to getting in.

I think I have grown a grey hair every time there is another announcement!

MaddieElla · 05/01/2021 21:20

Let's see what tomorrow's announcement about exams will bring. Gin

MaddieElla · 05/01/2021 21:21

Or rather how they will award the grades. Already had too many GinGrin

Dry January isn't happening here.

NadiSel · 06/01/2021 00:15

@LalaFlottes and @ChiaraRimini many thanks for the advice. I'm keen to see what 2mro brings and will look to ext centres if it is possible. This really is a bitter pill to swallow at the moment but maybe Gavin Williamson has a plan that is more cunning then a fox who has been appointed Prof of Cunning at Oxford Univeraity Grin . She doesn't hold a place from last year as her teacher assessed grades weren't sufficient.

The cohort from last summer are now unfortunate 'collateral damage'. The talk at the moment is about addressing the situation for the current cohort but I imagine there is a sizeable community who deliberately put their plans on hold for 1 year to resit exams this summer. I can't help feeling they are the forgotten bunch and not the priority fot the Govt.

Liverpool interview just come through🎉🎉
She has Nottingham tomorrow and Bristol later this month
Waiting for Southampton now

bimkom · 06/01/2021 09:15

Congratulations WithIcePlease, I saw on TSR that a whole bunch of Liverpool invites have come out this morning. None for DS yet though, although (again) has a higher score than many who are getting interviews. It might be the curse of the end of alphabet surname again, but then again, who knows. We wait.

redtulip12 · 06/01/2021 09:39

Congratulations @WithIcePlease we have also just got the Liverpool invite too. Good luck to your DD tomorrow with the Nottingham interview.

Our surname is near the beginning of the alphabet @bimkom so does sound like another Uni that have done it alphabetically

Millylovespuddles · 06/01/2021 09:54

Congrats @WithIcePlease and @redtulip12 ..... just joining in with another Liverpool invite here. Surname is in the first 20% of the alphabet.

LaLaFlottes · 06/01/2021 10:15

Great news @WithIcePlease and good luck for Nottingham tomorrow.

DD’s friend is waiting to hear from Liverpool so that’s good to hear they’re sending invites again.

LaLaFlottes · 06/01/2021 10:28

@redtulip12 and @Millylovespuddles great news!

Definitely sounds like alphabetical order doesn’t it!

WithIcePlease · 06/01/2021 11:11

Thank you for wishes for tomorrow
We are a D surname so that sounds right re order

Powergower · 06/01/2021 12:37

Brilliant news for those hearing back from Liverpool. We are still waiting to hear from them and 2 other unis. Good luck to those with interviews this week.

Waiting to see what gav says about grading this year. What a week and it's only Wednesday!!

MaddieElla · 06/01/2021 13:40

Teacher assessed grades then.

LaLaFlottes · 06/01/2021 13:47

Yes @MaddieElla seems to be the case. Honestly, who’d have thought this would happen again this year.

MaddieElla · 06/01/2021 14:05

I remember feeling so sorry for last year's year 13s and thinking it would at least be sorted by the time our kids took their A Levels. How naive!

I just hope this guidance that's going to be forthcoming will include details that assessments will be ongoing throughout the next few months.

LaLaFlottes · 06/01/2021 14:07

Same @MaddieElla although at least hopefully ours won’t have to endure the whole algorithm debacle and subsequent u turn!

MaddieElla · 06/01/2021 14:08

Yes I really didn't want to hear that word as an option.

He's just saying that it might be possible to give grades earlier.

opoponax · 08/01/2021 10:55

Congratulations to those who have had Liverpool invites and hope those who are waiting get them soon. Manchester interview done this week. He says he felt that he gave it his best shot and is just preparing for the next one now. I have to say that I have found it a bit of an unsettling and distracting week with all the exam cancellation uncertainty, not to mention everything else that is going on in the world. He just gets his head down and carries on regardless. I think his disposition is definitely better suited to being a doctor than mine would be!

LaLaFlottes · 08/01/2021 13:16

@opoponax well done to DS with his Manchester interview. Another one done. DD has been the same and felt like she has given it her best shot - it's about all you can hope for isn't it!

It's so distracting for them isn't it? DD had three interviews so early, Nov and Dec, and they clashed with mocks and obviously less time to prepare, but on the other hand at least they are done. She was quite overwhelmed by it all at the time and it wasn't a good 3 weeks here. We were glad when they were over.

She now just has Sheffield left to do - and now has an on line Biology mock that afternoon too! Typical. I'm starting to think that re interviews, there is no good time, they just have to get on with it.

Head down and carry on is a good strategy!

As always, best wishes to all - applicants and long suffering parents!

Katesometimeslate · 08/01/2021 16:04

Dd had Manchester today and she said she felt it was ok but had the dreaded internet issues- apparently on her last few stations she had to keep asking the interviewers to repeat as she couldn’t hear them which ate into her time a lot. She’s now concerned it’ll affect her scoring but surely as she made the interviewers aware she couldn’t hear them due to internet issues they’ll take this into account when scoring her?

opoponax · 08/01/2021 16:38

@LaLaFlottes good luck to your DD for Sheffield. Agree, there seems to be no good time for interviews. It is just a case of getting on with it. @Katesometimeslate that's such a shame your DD had the stress of internet issues on top of normal interview pressure. Would guess that it is happening a lot though and I'm sure they wouldn't penalise her for it. I really do feel sorry for them all at the moment.

emummy · 11/01/2021 09:32

Good luck all for this week; Dd has Dundee interview shortly, fingers crossed it all goes well

LaLaFlottes · 11/01/2021 10:41

@emummy best of luck to DD for today.
Is she keen on Dundee? It would be amazing to have Ninewells for your placement.

emummy · 11/01/2021 12:13

Glasgow is her favourite but she does like Dundee; the people she has met were nice. It would be good for us as it’s not as far to travel as Glasgow or Edinburgh would be.
I love Ninewells, had the best time working there!
