SATSmadness has Oxford given your DD a second college to interview with, as well as her college of choice? Lust curious to know how they're dealing with the two colleges as standard thing, for Medicine and the other subjects where applicants always interview at two.

SATSmadness · 27/11/2020 17:23

She's got an interview at Cambridge goodbyestranger

I've just checked with the text she sent me and the e-mail says there will be 2 interviews on the same day. Do you think this is indicative of a second college interviewing her ?

goodbyestranger · 27/11/2020 17:27

Oh sorry SATSmadness, I'd been thinking Oxford. And no, with Cambridge that'll just be two sets of tutors but the same college. Anyhow, very good news given that she was disappointed with her BMAT at 9am!

Summer15coming · 27/11/2020 17:29

There are so many interview offers coming through! So exciting! Well done to everyone's DC.

@IrmaFayLear @goodbyestranger - yes, after the initial disappointment, because she really did like Keble, she has been looking at the new college and feels much happier about the change.

goodbyestranger · 27/11/2020 17:32

Apologies if I got that muddled too SATSmadness - I've scrolled back quickly and can't find the post where someone said their DC was disappointed with their BMAT, so perhaps it was elsewhere and wasn't you.

SATSmadness · 27/11/2020 17:41

Yes, goodbyestranger she's run through the full range of emotions in the last 8 hours !

It's all new territory for us with DD being the first in the family to apply for medicine plus the first to apply for an Oxbridge Uni so we have no experience to draw upon and give any re-assurance at any stage.

Do you find it less nerve-wracking with subsequent DC (eyes up DC2, hmm, unlikely to follow in DD's footsteps, having seen the level of work required) or if you've been through the process yourself ?

SATSmadness · 27/11/2020 17:43

No, you're spot on, it was indeed DD using the "disappointing/disapppointed" description.

SATSmadness · 27/11/2020 17:50

@Summer15coming, with no family or friends having been to any particular college and lockdown thwarting the potential for additional visits, DD had picked a college she had not actually visited just from online viewing. She then had to abandon that one as someone else from her school said they had chosen it and for the same subject and chances of 2 pupils from the same school getting into the same college for the same subject were thought be be non existent so she picked another after an weekend of more online research. She did admit though that she'd be happy just to get a place at Cambridge and would take any re-allocation at all if it secured a place.

NiamCinnOir · 27/11/2020 18:00

Huge congratulations to all the dc with interviews today. It’s a great testament to their abilities and determination to have got this far. Dd is still waiting for news, but stepping off the Oxbridge train this weekend to celebrate 3 birthdays in the immediate family Cake

Chilldonaldchill · 27/11/2020 18:05
**@Chilldonaldchill

congrats to your DD, what subject is she applying for ?

DD has applied for medicine and believes the ratio is the same as the one you've quoted.

Given what another poster has detailed about the correspondence from Keble college with all places for their DC's chosen subject being taken by applicants deferred from the previous year, it looks like it's a major achievement just to get an interview this year so your DD can be super proud of herself already.
Thanks - history here though several of her close friends are applying for medicine.

Stitchintimesaves9 · 27/11/2020 18:09

DD has an interview! She's mostly really pleased - she applied to Magdalene, but has been reallocated to St Catherine's. Anyone know anything about St Catherine's Grin

ChimneyPot · 27/11/2020 18:24

@Stitchintimesaves9 congrats to your DD

What do they about buses, you wait ages for one and then 2 come along at once?

DD started the day with no offers, got a PPE interview over breakfast and now a Durham offer this evening. Based on only 5 subjects. Most places base it on 6 subjects.

Tonight is “Toy Show” night, a traditional Christmas, relaxing evening in Ireland. We will definitely be relaxing.

Stitchintimesaves9 · 27/11/2020 18:27

Very well done to your DD @ChimneyPot!

Hope you have a lovely relaxing evening

IrmaFayLear · 27/11/2020 18:32

Well done, interviewees!

I think it’s really important to stress that a place at any college (particularly this year) is a massive win. I wonder what happened to the dd of a MNetter some years ago who wanted to turn down her place because it was at an “ugly” college...

beethecrackon24995 · 27/11/2020 18:36

Hi there. I knew good old MN would have a post for this. Dd found out yesterday she has an interview on the 9th for 'key's college Cambridge to study English lit. Anyone else similar?

Crikeyblimey · 27/11/2020 18:38

Congratulations to all the interviewees. Good luck all.

DeRigueurMortis · 27/11/2020 18:47

@beethecrackon24995 congratulations on the interview and welcome to the thread.

There are quite a few of us here for Cambridge and we've definitely got some Eng Lit applicants.

Not sure I've seen anyone mention Keys yet though.

(DRM Jr is Cambridge Maths).

beethecrackon24995 · 27/11/2020 19:04

Hi DeRigueur so excited for her. She's thrilled although we are aware that around 9/10 that have an interview don't get an offer. She feels a bit guilty as none of her friends who also applied for Cambridge got an offer of an interview. She said on Monday they find out how they did in their entrance examination. I didn't know that they would be given that information.

beethecrackon24995 · 27/11/2020 19:07

Ps I should have said Gonville & Caius' 😊

Massive congratulations to all the DC with interviews. There are so many impressive young people out there. Kind of gives you hope for the future!

Chocomel · 27/11/2020 20:14

My DS has an interview. Well.... two. One for his preferred college, and one with another. (I think that's normal though?) So relieved. It's all on him now. Cross your fingers for 7/12. X

RunnersTipple · 27/11/2020 20:38

Ooh, lots of interviews coming through, congratulations to all those DC. I unexpectedly had to go to Cambridge today and ended up going past the college DS has applied to, and at risk of sounding utterly deranged, found myself sending lots of 'pick him' vibes as I passed Blush.

par05 · 27/11/2020 21:17

@Stitchintimesaves9 my dd has applied for st Catherine's, and is applying for english lit do I remember correctly your dd doing english too?

par05 · 27/11/2020 21:18

And congratulations!
