You'll know after Christmas with everyone else surely?

Chilldonaldchill · 27/11/2020 15:10

I thought they all found out the results of interview on the same date - 25 January?

Baaaahhhhh · 27/11/2020 15:11

Deferrals are only one part of the puzzle though. Take Worcester. Apparently they only had one deferral, sounds good? Well, maybe not, as if they crammed everyone in this year, which we know they did, as they committed to accept everyone in this years cohort, do they actually have any actual physical space left for next year's cohort?

Meh, we can obsessively analyse everything, I know I spend way too much time looking up stuff, and to what end? However, I think one thing we can all agree upon, 2020 and 2021 intakes have/are having a particularly stressful time of it.

Ah - I didn't realise they released the offers all on the same day in Jan....my mistake.

Thanks for the heads up.

SATSmadness · 27/11/2020 15:16

I'd read something long those lines too Baaaahhh.

The only way to tell will be by published data or FOI requested data some time after the admission process has been completed across the board.

Hoghgyni · 27/11/2020 15:49

If you think the wait for an interview was bad....

DeRigueurMortis · 27/11/2020 15:52

Hog indeed....

Tbh I'm not sure which would be better - knowing before Christmas or waiting until after...

I suppose given the chances are likely to be no offer then it stops kids being upset around Christmas.

goodbyestranger · 27/11/2020 15:58

Half of my DC heard before Christmas and half afterwards. Before is probably my preference but actually they tend to forget until a day or so before results in January so pretty even merits on the whole.

JulesJules · 27/11/2020 15:59

Honestly, try not to worry too much about it - this is published data, and shows that for some subjects there are actually fewer deferrals than in previous years. In others there are more, but it's a small number.

Current first years will be moving out of their first year accommodation and into second year accommodation, quite often not provided by college but living out in private rentals. Many colleges don't provide any second year rooms, some have a few available by ballot etc. This doesn't affect first year accommodation.

SATSmadness · 27/11/2020 16:04

Ha Ha Hog, yes, it must be a little bit like being a contestant on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. They get closer and closer to the ultimate goal but the tension is higher with each hurdle cleared.

Summer15coming · 27/11/2020 16:05

@goodbyestranger

Thanks for the link JulesJules. That link shows that Keble has one of the highest deferral rates, so that's consistent with the Arch&Anth situation. But it's also useful in showing that the numbers are tiny, broken down by subject, with some barely affected. Anyhow, useful to see that the Keble/ Arch&Anth thing isn't representative.
Seems to be a perfect storm of both Arch and Anth (proportionally) and Keble both having high deferral rates, meaning my DD really should have applied to a different college in the first place! Or a different subject - only 17 places left for 2021Sad

I was just about to say it's much better to know all decisions come out on the same day, even if it is far off, as you can somewhat relax until then. But then you go and throw that curveball nugget of information in there! Wish I didn't know that! I'm not going to tell my DD. I'll let her just keep thinking it's the end of January.
IrmaFayLear · 27/11/2020 16:10

I don’t know why Keble didn’t own up.

Otoh I’m sure your dd has been relocated to somewhere nice. The main thing is she’s got her foot in the door (or her face on the screen).

Stitchintimesaves9 · 27/11/2020 16:12

Congratulations to all the DC with interviews Smile

I really need to stop refreshing the TSR spreadsheet! Just seen a rejection for my DD's course at the college she's applied to. No news from DD who's at school....

JulesJules · 27/11/2020 16:16

Regardless of how many places there are, they aim to interview about three students for every place. By that stage, they will already have reallocated colleges where necessary so they all have an equal chance of getting in.

pepperaunt · 27/11/2020 16:16

Delighted to say an interview offer just came in for DD (so her mock Physics interview today was not in vain)

DeRigueurMortis · 27/11/2020 16:17

Congratulations Pepper 👏👏

mutterphore · 27/11/2020 16:18

Just coming on to wish everyone here the very very best of luck, whatever the outcome.

Although not quite the 'veteran' in this process compared to others on MN, I've supported DTs two years running with Oxbridge applications and know just how invested DCs can get in the process. First time around, both got interviews but then didn't get offers. Second time around - and with A levels in hand, which in their cases helped hugely - they applied again and against all the odds, both got places - one at O and one at C.

I still feel a 'fellow human feeling' with those watching their DCs reaching each hurdle in the process and it sounds as if this year is even more challenging for them than usual. So once again, good luck to everyone!

Knotanothername · 27/11/2020 16:38

@pepperaunt congratulations 🥳

Knotanothername · 27/11/2020 16:38

Wonder if the rest of us are waiting until Monday now?

SATSmadness · 27/11/2020 16:49

Very relieved to say that DD has actually received an interview date !

I was just wondering how I was going to be able to bear the mutual suspense with her over the weekend.

For those still waiting, the TSR invite recording spreadsheets are expanding incredibly quickly at the moment but I can switch off now and relax with her.

BilberryBaggins · 27/11/2020 16:54

Dd just heard she has got an interview Smile

goodbyestranger · 27/11/2020 17:09

Summer15coming relax again - before Christmas (unspecified date, usually around the 21st December) was simply what happened up to 2013. Then the Oxford date was moved to a fixed, pre-announced date in January. It's actually far less exciting with a fixed, pre-announced date. One year (2011) we were cut off by the Big Snow so that made it too exciting, by some way :)

Lots of interviews - well done all the DC.

Vargas · 27/11/2020 17:10

That's great news @BilberryBaggins, which uni and which subject?

goodbyestranger · 27/11/2020 17:14

Agree about the co-incidence of Keble and Arch&Anth Summer15coming but if your DD is happy with the college she's been re-allocated to then it's all good. She won't be at the tiniest disadvantage having been re-allocated; that aspect of it is immaterial.
