My dd has received an offer from Bath tonight, came through at 9.11 pm.

Beetlesand · 11/11/2020 21:44

Good news majaso12Smile

@MidLifeCrisis007 Does her school get the EPQ done and dusted in year 12? In which case there would I’d have thought be real appeal in being free in the summer and following term to swot for the test and do the application etc. If the EPQ drags through the summer and that term maybe less so. But probably still more flexible than another A level unless there is lots to do in the summer hols.

Majaso12 · 11/11/2020 22:00

My dd’s school were trying to push EPQs at the end of year 12 during lockdown. My dd decided against it, but was worried it would disadvantage her. Her school didn’t provide any online lessons during lockdown and for maths not one piece of work was marked from March to September. Basically had to teach herself everything, so she wanted to concentrate on getting the highest grades possible in her 3 A levels. She did do an online course over Summer with a uni and a final project which she was given a 1st for, so hoping it won’t disadvantage her too much.

If you mean will not doing an EPQ disadvantage here, then clearly it won't.
mumsneedwine · 11/11/2020 22:15

@Majaso12 it won't disadvantage her at all. They want 3 great A levels. And a motivated, interested student. I worked out I've supported over 400 Oxbridge candidates over the years and many have been successful. Those that weren't have gone on to be just as successful at other Unis. Oxbridge is great but not for everyone. And good students can succeed from anywhere. Good luck.

Majaso12 · 11/11/2020 22:24

Yes I meant hope not doing an EPQ won’t disadvantage her. She was worried initially about it, especially as quite a few in her year signed up to do one. Some in her year who are really struggling with their A levels and didn’t do well at all in their mocks are even doing one.

bendmeoverbackwards · 11/11/2020 22:27

@sandybayley thank you for your post, I was starting to worry that dd would be at a disadvantage not having an EPQ.

DahliaMacNamara · 11/11/2020 22:39

@Majaso12, congratulations to your DD.
DD's school don't do the EPQ at all. I wouldn't worry about it.

@Majaso12 congratulations to your DD on her bath offer. That’s good news.
On the subject of EPQ vs 4th A’level, I think the benefits you gain by doing an EPQ probably outweighs the that of doing a 4th A’level. The skills are transferable both in medical school and when you come out at the other end. The DC should choose a topic they find interesting and hopefully this will spur them on to gain maximally from it

quest1on · 12/11/2020 10:35

Congratulations Majaso! I know you were a little anxious on that one do that’s great news. Have you ever been to Bath? We haven’t, but looks like a nice town on Google Images Grin

Majaso12 · 12/11/2020 10:45

Bath and Warwick are meant to be her safe choices, but were getting worried why it was taking so long for an offer. Still haven’t received one from Warwick. Think her 2 London choices might take even longer. We know Bath really well.

NiamCinnOir · 12/11/2020 10:46

Bath is gorgeous - expensive, but gorgeous! Congratulations to your dd on her offer @Majaso12. Smile

MatureStudent21 · 12/11/2020 15:20

@Majaso12 congratulations to your DD!

Tenpastseven · 12/11/2020 16:13

Congrats @Majaso12 😊.
These offers do come at odd times, huh?

Majaso12 · 12/11/2020 16:16

Thank you. Yes, wasn’t expecting any to come through after 5 pm and not at that time of night! She got the email from Bath this morning. No other offers today unfortunately.

Lemoncurd · 12/11/2020 16:55

Daughter has a Nottingham offer today, still waiting on Bath.
Anyone had a Bath offer for Maths yet? Sounds like she would prefer Nottingham as her insurance anyway though.

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/11/2020 17:27

Well done on all the recent offers

Majaso12 · 12/11/2020 18:00

Dd just got Warwick offer and they’ve lowered it from ABB and offered her BBB, which I’m surprised at.

LaundryFairy · 12/11/2020 18:03

Congratulations on all of the offers to DCs!

Tenpastseven · 12/11/2020 18:05
