Presumably different faculties within a Uni can have different timescales for making offers.

There's plenty of official information available online regarding most Unis, Oxbridge included, but at the end of the day that is the official line. My employers make a claim regarding something in all of their literature/online marketing which potential service users do find attractive. The reality is almost always different (for any number of justification reasons) and new contacts never ask the right question to lock in that claim as applicable to them.

The intensity of Oxbridge academic life is why I can't help feeling DD would be eminently suitable to take up a place there. She thrives in that sort of situation as evidenced in school reports all the way through secondary school. Her happiest school years were when she finally "found her tribe" in about year 10. Don't get me wrong, she's always up for a bit of social life too but partying for the sake of it hasn't been her style to date.

I'm silently hoping so much that she is successful but currently expressing how nice all her other options will be if they are the end result of the process.

My dd sounds similar to yours @SATSmadness I knew there was something a bit different about dd from when she was 2 years old. I have always said she was born with a book in her hand.

Let's hope all our lovely dc end up at the place that's right for them.

Might anyone with past experience know when Cambridge update those interactive admissions graphs for each of the colleges please?

Do they only do it at the end of every cycle or do they update stage by stage - eg no of applications; then offers made / pooled etc etc?

It would be interesting to see how many have applied to the same college as DS this year as it seems to vary a lot!

chopc · 09/11/2020 11:55

Yes someone I know from abroad have also received a Durham offer.

pepperaunt · 09/11/2020 13:01

A bit concerned as DD hasn’t received any offers (applied to Durham and Bath). Hoping it’s because she’s applied to a STEM subject...

MatureStudent21 · 09/11/2020 13:20

@quest1on I’ve also applied to Durham and haven’t heard anything yet apart from an acknowledgement email - i think it really does come down the the subject

quest1on · 09/11/2020 13:40

Yes I think it does come down a lot to the subject. Some offers are out for DS’ subject at Durham, but they are all international or contextual offers as (apparently) these are made first. Some maths and science offers have also started In this way.

hobbema · 09/11/2020 13:59

@quest1on, I think it’s at the end of the cycle sometime in the late Spring

WarmAndco3y · 09/11/2020 15:31

My DS hasn’t heard from Durham officially yet, although the sports department have been in touch with him, to discuss his interests.
It was a phone call.

Revengeofthepangolins · 09/11/2020 15:35

@WarmAndco3y. Wow. Presumably he is an elite sportsman of some sort?

WarmAndco3y · 09/11/2020 15:38

@Revengeofthepangolins, not really. He has played rugby at county level, that’s all.

Revengeofthepangolins · 09/11/2020 15:43

I was curious about Durham to as this time last year the Oxbridge thread has some Durham offers just starting to appear, mostly, it seemed, contextual and post-Alevel.

As I recall they do start around now but dribble out slowly for months and not even in subject blocks. Notoriously, a significant number seem to come after the offer holders days and accommodation allocation starts. Last year my god daughter, who has an offer from Oxford, hadn’t heard from D by the time the whole system collapsed under covid in March

Revengeofthepangolins · 09/11/2020 15:44

@WarmAndco3y. Well done him, and it sounds as though it may well help him. Fingers crossed

Beetlesand · 09/11/2020 16:00

No Offer from Durham for Dd either .

DeRigueurMortis · 09/11/2020 18:06

Another one whose heard nothing from Durham (apart from the "we have received your application" automated email).

Thankfully as DS has decided it's no longer his second (or even third/fourth choice - well for the moment at least 😂) we're lucky enough not to be stressed out about it.

MidLifeCrisis007 · 09/11/2020 18:59

DS only has Oxford and Durham on his UCAS form at the moment and no word yet from Durham, despite applying post results.

I seem to remember there was a post results applicant on here last year (or rather his mum was!) who was taken to the wire by them.

DS did get a Durham offer last year but not at his preferred college.

goodbyestranger · 09/11/2020 19:08

Which subject MidLifeCrisis007?

MidLifeCrisis007 · 09/11/2020 19:18

DS is applying for History.

goodbyestranger · 09/11/2020 19:24

Good choice MidLifeCrisis007.

This is just me being nosy/ interested, so of course no need to reply, but at what stage of the process did he get his offer last year?

College at Durham is of very little consequence, but you've probably been told that umpteen times and are fed up of hearing it.

MatureStudent21 · 09/11/2020 19:24

I just thought I’d let you all know that I’ve just had an offer from Durham. Interestingly they’ve offered me a reduced offer if I chose them as my firm?

*(Not a stealth boast - just thought I’d update, particularly as a lot of the conversation today has been about Durham being slow to offer)

quest1on · 09/11/2020 19:30

Congratulations MatureStudent!

I’m surprised they’re working so late on a Monday evening.

MatureStudent21 · 09/11/2020 19:38

@quest1on - I’ll check what time the offer came though - I’ve been finding that I don’t get an email to check track until a few hours after I receive an offer

whiteroseredrose · 09/11/2020 19:47

DD hasn't heard from Durham either.

We went through this process a few years ago and from what I remember he got his offer from Durham in December. It was definitely before the Oxford verdict.

DD's preferred option is Leeds but she would be torn if she got an offer from Durham as it very highly ranked for Geology / Earth Sciences.

sandybayley · 09/11/2020 19:48

Last year DS1 got his Durham offer on the same day as his invite to interview at Oxford. 29 November was a good day last year SmileSTEM subject.

quest1on · 09/11/2020 19:52

hobbema - thanks for responding to my earlier question btw (its just me being nosey).
