Following on from the first thread:
DD now has UKAT booked for mid-August. She couldn’t get a driving theory test booked until after the UKAT date, but will keep an eye out for cancellations.
Now, her big dilemma is Oxbridge it not....

Fab news @emummy well done to your DD Star

BMAT results have been received by the relevant Unis, possibly yesterday but not sure.

So this should generate interview invites from the remaining med schools over the next week or so.

@SATSmadness it is not just the BMAT Unis that have still to send out invites. Some UCAT ones haven't even started issuing their invites yet. I've just heard that today Bristol have released a third batch of invites with (apparently) a UCAT cut off of 3010.

Good luck BMAT candidates Smile

@opoponax Yes, I know, some of DD's fellow aspiring medics school cohort are still waiting to hear from med schools that use UCAT scores.

Apologies if my post was poorly phrased folks.

We now have Glasgow, Bristol and Kings. Am really worried as she doesn’t seem to be madly prepping for her first interview on Monday and she’s a relatively high risk candidate IMO as has no work experience, only 12 weeks non medical volunteering and has never had an interview for anything before. Her USP is her insane ability to process information, her academic ability, her sponge like memory and her nerves of steel!!

LaLaFlottes · 26/11/2020 16:17

@Iamsodonewith2020 congratulations to DD on her interviews Smile

I think the USP you mention will see her do very well in her interviews!

Congratulations to your DD @Iamsodonewith2020! Sounds like she’ll be fine! Also have read somewhere that Glasgow only make offers based on the interview, so that’s one where the other stuff won’t count so much

Emummy and Iamsodone - great news on the interview front! Well done.

Only Friday left for this week and then it starts all over again..... aren't we so lucky to have such drama in our lives!

Good luck to all the DC getting their BMAT results tomorrow.

@Iamsodonewith2020 congratulations to your DD on her interview and good luck for next week.

@LaLaFlottes really hope St Andrews went very well.

My DS says it's like there's a collective phone checking obsession among the aspiring medics at school atm. They're all being really
supportive of each other though which is great.

@LaLaFlottes I hope interview went well today. I remember taking DD1 there to look round

Congratulations to all on interviews coming through

Thanks for asking about DD Smile first interview done - very hard to know how it went in terms of what they are looking for but she’s happy with her answers and wouldn’t change anything she said. She seems happy and was smiling afterwards so that’s all we can hope for really isn’t it!

Good luck to those expecting BMAT results - do they get emailed to you?

Also to those waiting for interviews - it’s such early days, so many places to even start getting in touch so hang in there and I am sure it will all come good Smile

DD texted her BMAT scores. Looking on TSR there's sooooo many who have much higher scores (if they're not trolling) so it really won't help towards getting an interview from her top choice Uni. I hope she doesn't look on TSR until she gets home.

She described the scores as "disappointing". She knew she'd run out of time on section 2 but apparently other people said they had too. In the week before the test she was consistently scoring higher on the practice material sections 1 and 2.

Fingers crossed even more now that her interview elsewhere earlier this week will lead to an offer and she does have others to come over the next 2 months so she should get a place somewhere.

Sorry to hear DD is disappointed @SATSmadness but TSR isn't really representative of everyone. Does her first choice of University take GCSEs into account? Could that pull her score up?

Don't give up hope - but like you say, other options are there too.

SATSmadness · 27/11/2020 12:33

First choice is Cambridge so that's why a disappointing BMAT score is a worry. She has stellar GCSEs though and her school's reference was justifiably truly glowing in all the right places. Interview is her weak area but getting one depends on looking good on paper to start with.

I'm certain that she'll be able to park the dream and happily take up a medicine course elsewhere (assuming that she succeeds at an interview) but whilst the dream is still alive for them it's all her and the Oxbridge applicants at her school can think about apparently. I feel for the teachers going through this with them.
