Following on from the first thread:
DD now has UKAT booked for mid-August. She couldn’t get a driving theory test booked until after the UKAT date, but will keep an eye out for cancellations.
Now, her big dilemma is Oxbridge it not....

@northlondoncat you’re welcome - we are all in this together Flowers

Powergower · 21/11/2020 10:02

Nothing at all from Liverpool or Nottingham here except emails saying they'll be in touch in the New year due the overwhelming number of applications this year.

sergeantmajormum · 21/11/2020 10:15

@northlondoncat
Appreciate everything may be a bit different this year but DD is in her second year at Liverpool and when she was applying they didn’t send interview invites until mid Jan, interviews were mid Feb and offers not made till late March. So it’s a looonnngg game! No news is good news at this stage. If you have any questions about Liverpool, HTH.

IsThisNameTaken · 21/11/2020 11:42

For anyone else waiting to hear from Keele - DD was on the virtual open day this morning and they said they'd only looked at 20% of forms so far so have sent out some interview invites but plenty yet to come.

MaddieElla · 21/11/2020 11:46

Thanks for the info @IsThisNameTaken that's also one of DDs choices. I'd seen some interviews trickling through but I'm never sure if they're contextual or just a random order.

Fingers crossed for us.

IsThisNameTaken · 21/11/2020 11:58

They said they were looking at them in a random order - fingers crossed here as well!

northlondoncat · 21/11/2020 13:21

@sergeantmajormum thank you ! I would love to hear more. It’s a nightmare year for them. We would have fought with the school about predicteds had we known it would have been this tight. As we weren’t going down the oxbridge route we didn’t think that every little thing would count QUITE so much .

Iamsodonewith2020 · 21/11/2020 16:38

Daughter received interview for Kings on Monday but is absolutely gutted about Bristol. She was in top 2% for UCAS score but hasn’t got an interview inthe first round. It was her top choice

WithIcePlease · 21/11/2020 16:43

I thought Liverpool always after Christmas whatever year it was

LaLaFlottes · 21/11/2020 17:25

@Iamsodonewith2020 - if your DD is in the top 2% and isn’t in the first batch for Bristol, they must be sending out invites in a random way rather than in order of UCAT score? Surely she is guaranteed and interview? Or do Bristol use other things as well as UCAT? Hopefully it’s just a matter of time?

LaLaFlottes · 21/11/2020 17:26

@Iamsodonewith2020 meant to also say congrats on the Kings interview Smile

WithIcePlease · 21/11/2020 17:35

I think Bristol sent first batch to scores over 3100. This doesn't include all of 98 percentile

redtulip12 · 21/11/2020 17:36

@Iamsodonewith2020 I really don't think your daughter should be worrying about Bristol it seems that the first batch were sent to students with a score of over 3100. My daughter is still confident she will receive an interview in the second batch. She is on the 97% percentile. I hope she is right but it does seem that they send them out in batches.
Congratulations on the Kings interview.

opoponax · 21/11/2020 18:14

@Iamsodonewith2020 I can confirm what WithIcePlease says. My DS is also in top 2% for UCAT and didn't make the Bristol first cut. They cut off above the top 2% mark. He is also confident that there will be a second batch. I think the Exeter situation is magnified by the weighting of A levels and the CAGS distortion. Bristol doesn't have the same selection system -beyond academic grade thresholds, it's all about the UCAT.

Iamsodonewith2020 · 21/11/2020 18:42

How are everyone preparing for interview? My daughters school have stopped all interview practise for oxbridge and medicine candidates. It’s shocking and as a non medical family we haven’t a clue

LaLaFlottes · 21/11/2020 20:30

@Iamsodonewith2020 - DD is using the ISC medical interview book and seems to be finding it helpful. There seems to be a lot of flash cards being written up!

Iamsodonewith2020 · 21/11/2020 20:51

Thank you

Mansmansmum · 21/11/2020 23:28

Crikey - only top 2% UCAT for Bristol?! That's tough!

Hope it's ok to drop in for some advice. Never thought I'd be here again but ds1 (24, Masters in Chemistry) thinks he might apply to do medicine next year (not graduate entry - just as a second degree). Can any of you point ds to med schools which don't take GCSEs into account (his were mediocre) but look at A levels (and degree?) and UCAT? He's aware of medic portal and student room but can't find info on graduate entry for the full 5 year courses

Ds2 is currently a 4th year med student at Sheffield so have been exactly where you all are now and feel for your dcs in this weird year. (Happy to answer any question about ds's experiences at Sheff, interviews etc).

Ginprincess · 22/11/2020 08:50

DD in first year at Bristol, happy to answer any queries. Good luck to everyone.

MaddieElla · 22/11/2020 09:46

Prep for interview so far: I happened to peak at her laptop screen the other day when she was logging on to her Teams interview. There were approximately 472847374724 tabs open from the BBC health pages, NHS websites and various other medical news sites.

She's also got the book.

She doesn't have any medicine interviews so far so there isn't an urgency at the moment. Fingers crossed she gets some good news this week and then she'll up her game.

MaddieElla · 22/11/2020 09:47

Also there is a young doctor on tik tok who gives an ethical dilemma every day and then explains it all clearly. He's ace!

Millylovespuddles · 22/11/2020 10:42

Maddie - is it a US Dr on tic tok? My daughter has watched some of his but if there is a UK one, it would probably be better.
My dd is in the same position as yours, anxiously waiting for some news. My stomach flips every time I get a text thinking it might be her!

It's this one...hope the pic uploads.

Yes I'm the same. DD rings me when she's walking from school to work "just for a chat" but I'm thinking she's ringing with news.

Iamsodonewith2020 · 22/11/2020 14:09

I wish my daughter would call to chat! We barely see her, sometimes I forget she lives here until she complains we have run out of food!!!

LaLaFlottes · 22/11/2020 17:52

DD was just doing some prep and came across the potential question in her book “how do you know, what you do not know” Hmm erm....
