@LaLaFlottes she spent the first 3 months working part time and preparing for her interviews. Now she's just working and banking as much money as possible ready for the next 5 years.

Monkey2001 · 04/02/2020 08:19

Congratulations @drizzleborn + DD - is it her first choice or is she also waiting for others? Do you want to tell us where it is?

scared2020 · 04/02/2020 08:26

Last interview for ds done - another MMI - he wasn't too sure how it went.

ladsmum · 04/02/2020 12:41

Thank you all for your good wishes. Brilliant news @drizzleborn that must be a great position for your DD to be in.

SleightOfMind · 04/02/2020 20:10

Yay! Congrats to everyone with offers safely tucked under belts - thoroughly cheering news Grin.

drizzleborn · 04/02/2020 22:17

She is waiting on others but would be happy to be studying medicine anywhere :)

Boredisboring · 05/02/2020 11:45

Need advice please.

DD has 2 offers and 2 still pending. Fortunately, the offers have been for her top 2 universities. They are asking for AAAA and AAA, so good first and second choice options.

Is there any benefit to firming up these two choices now, and is it possible that either of the pending universities (Bristol and Manchester) could make a lower offer?

Monkey2001 · 05/02/2020 13:00

@Boredisboring well done to your DD!

If her school is on the contextual list for Bristol (several hundred "aspiring" state schools) she would get an AAC/ABB offer, but I think those very high Cambridge offers only went to private school applicants, in which case it will be AAA from Bristol. I don't know about Manchester.

No benefit to firming now other than it would make life a bit tidier!

OP posts:
Boredisboring · 05/02/2020 13:47

Ah, thanks for that Monkey. Her school is not in the UK, so it's not going to be on any contextual list. But that does make the decision easier.

hobbema · 05/02/2020 13:57

I think you can only firm offers when you have heard from ALL of your UCAS choices.

Monkey2001 · 05/02/2020 14:58

You can firm if you withdraw from the others - you can't firm whilst waiting for decisions.

OP posts:
ladsmum · 05/02/2020 18:18

@Boredisboring Manchester offer AAA if no contextual flags, not heard of any "exceptional" offers of AAB (like Newcastle gave out last year) tbh

Monkey2001 · 07/02/2020 19:09

DS got an offer from St Andrews, close second choice after Cambridge. So happy and relieved!

@hoodiemum he will be joining your DD - may be in touch for advice about St Andrews practicalities....

Hopefully you will all get good news over the next few weeks, but if anybody ends up in our sad position of last year with no offers this year, we can thoroughly recommend the gap year experience - no regrets now!

Long time follower of this thread for no particular reason and just wanted to say how delighted I am for both you and your DS Monkey2001! I hope you are all seriously celebrating. What a cracking example of determination and resilience!

Abetes · 07/02/2020 19:24

My dd applied for medicine last year and was lucky enough to secure a place but I’ve been stalking this thread to follow Monkey’s ds. So pleased for him, and for you. Many many congratulations.

speedyhedgehog · 07/02/2020 19:31

I just saw on the student room that offers were coming out for st andrews and thought straight away of you and DS monkey. I am so delighted for you both! Many many congratulations!

242Mummy · 07/02/2020 19:36

Well done, well done monkey's DS!! SO PLEASED for him. Very good news indeed.

Sadie1974 · 07/02/2020 19:47

I’ve followed the 2019 thread as my DD is now a first year medic and DD2 is considering medicine. I just wanted to say well done monkey junior, I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed for him and I really hope you are off to celebrate. I think this thread provides a wealth of knowledge and at times more entertaining than a soap opera!!

Zog14 · 07/02/2020 19:54

Monkey junior!!! Yay!! Amazing! Been waiting for this moment, absolutely fantastic!!! He must be over the moon....how’s he responding? Hope he’s got a massive grin on his face!!! 🥂🍾💫✨💥🎂🍺🍸 enjoy the celebrations this weekend!!!

hoodiemum · 07/02/2020 21:38

Welcome to St Andrews, Monkey family! See you on the beach!
Very happy to help with any practical questions between now and September, but in the meantime, enjoy the celebrations. And hopefully some fun travelling ahead too? If he's anything like my DD, he will NOT regret choosing St Andrews. It was meant to be!
