Good luck to everyone's DCs. Really hope they're all staying positive in their new environment, esp the ones in Scotland with stricter rules. Fingers crossed everyone has nice bubbles to hang out with.

Hi Piggy! DD was a bit low today with the new rules. They are feeling a bit singled out that they are specifically not allowed out but mostly she is a bit sad at the thought she might not be allowed home. She was intending to come home for the weekend at the end of October as she was finally able to book her driving test again (she was booked 2 days into lockdown). Who knows whether that will be allowed by then or even if it will be still going ahead. They are planning a flat pizza party tonight so they are still trying to make the most of it. I can't imagine her not being allowed home for Christmas though if that becomes a thing.

PiggyPokkyFool · 25/09/2020 15:30

Gosh it is horrid for them and no doubt. I can see that depression may start to be a really big issue for some DC who may be jammed into a bubble with people they don't like and have no chance to escape even for a weekend.
The pizza party sounds like a fun idea and gives her something to look forward to doing.
Finger crossed for Christmas - we have followed everything to the letter thus far - but that would be an unbearable step.

Thanks for thinking of DS1 and me, Piggy! We dropped him off on Sunday and he's just finished Welcome Week. Looks like he turned up for everything and is settling in nicely. Timetable not quite complete and hence, not yet released but he's got an interim one for the next 2 weeks. 3 days of online teaching/self learning (pre-prepared material), a placement day and a PBL day each week. It looks full on, 9 till 5 almost every day.

Socially, he's in a flat of 12 with a mix of medics, nursing and health science students, various ages. They seem a sociable lot, no one is hiding in their rooms! They are eating and shopping together and one girl has announced her intention to bake this weekend. He hasn't mentioned Christmas!

PiggyPokkyFool · 25/09/2020 16:59

That's great @242Mummy - well done to him. DD really liked UEA and the programme sounds great.
I hope the people in DD's block are as nice in the flesh as they appear on WhatsApp - she is just washing up her crockery before packing and the sitting room has bags all in a line ready for the morning.
I think she just wants to be there nowGrin

242Mummy · 25/09/2020 17:15

Safe journey to Keele, Piggy!

speedyhedgehog · 25/09/2020 17:51

Safe journey tomorrow piggy!
That sounds good 242 mummy - dd has had 1 'live' online tutorial group so far. No face to face but lots and lots of lectures to watch.

PiggyPokkyFool · 26/09/2020 16:17

Dropped her off after a last meal out having sorted her room earlier and now on our way home. It was very quiet in her ‘flat’ so hopefully a few more people come soon and she finds someone to talk to this first evening. Can’t help feel Covid makes it harder..😢

speedyhedgehog · 30/09/2020 19:50

How is everyone getting on? DD currently well but there are Covid cases in her block already 😱 No live contact yet and yet to step foot on campus. She's had a couple of live online sessions and plently of work to do. Hope everyone's ds/dds are well and settling in.

PiggyPokkyFool · 30/09/2020 21:33

Hi @speedyhedgehog - DD has had 2 live sessions and 3 online in the three days she has been there. She had her flu and a meningitus jabs yesterday. Her flatmates, though lovely she says, are enthusiastic drinkers(!) and she is teetotal so she had one night when she wanted to tell them to shut up by 1am as they raced their desk chairs up and down the corridor but then security came along and did it for her - kicking out four other people who weren't supposed to be there. She has now met some people who are more her tribe in PBL sessions so all good.
No covid cases as yet... long may that last.

speedyhedgehog · 03/10/2020 10:04

Sounds like your dd has lots going on Piggy. My dd had her first actual in person lecture on friday and they also lost their first flatmate that day (as in they left permanently to go home). Still a very odd experience i suppose.

PiggyPokkyFool · 03/10/2020 18:02

Good news Speedy - It is exciting for her to actually get in there and meet her classmates face to face - or at least mask to mask! DD met her cadaver on Wednesday and they started learning the correct terms.
I am so sad that a person in your daughter's flat has left - how down they must have felt to leave so soon after all their effort to get there. Heartbreaking
How is everyone else's DC doing?

PiggyPokkyFool · 14/10/2020 21:55

May I ask a question to @Monkey2001 @mumsneedwine @HostessTrolley or indeed anyone else who might know. DD has her round of anatomy exams next month and seeing the library advertised past papers she took a look only to find there are none for Medicine. She would like to have an idea if she has grasped the main concepts - are there websites/books? Any recommendations?
I think having a few practice questions would give her confidence AND keep her occupied as a few new friends are sadly now in lockdown.

mumsneedwine · 14/10/2020 23:08

@PiggyPokkyFool if she looks on Quizlets she might find some revision notes from previous students at her Uni. It's also worth asking her medic parent as DD found that helpful in 1st year to know what might be in exams. I'll ask DD tomorrow for any tips.

PiggyPokkyFool · 16/10/2020 21:04

Thanks @mumsneedwine - I have suggested that to her. The medic parents both seem nice but didn't have these November exams last year.
Very grateful for assistance.
