I think that's just a slightly confusing way of them reiterating you need three A levels. The vast majority of students only do 3 nowadays. Certainly my DS only did 3 after dropping one after AS but that was 2016 entry. I think doing 4 is not so common now.

LaLaFlottes · 06/03/2020 19:57

@sluj thank you that makes sense. DD is doing three and probably an EPQ but just the way it was worded made me wonder!
Thanks Smile

Baytreemum · 06/03/2020 22:12

So glad for you and DS 242mummy - many congratulations!

Hopefulmed · 07/03/2020 00:59

Congrats to 242Mummy and your DS. Wonderful news. So happy for you.

Shangrilalala · 07/03/2020 07:56

Brilliant news 242Mummy. So pleased for you all!

bellylaughs · 07/03/2020 17:09

DD got an offer from Southampton yesterday (only told me today as she was at a sleepover!) she did the interview on 26th Feb. in case anyone else is waiting...

Monkey2001 · 07/03/2020 17:23

More good news!! Congrats to bellylaughs household!

mumsneedwine · 07/03/2020 17:32

👏congratulations.

bellylaughs · 07/03/2020 18:12

Thanks, fingers crossed for those still waiting. 🤞We’re also still waiting for Liverpool...

kingofkings · 07/03/2020 18:17

Congratulations to all the offers !
We also waiting fir Liverpool still. Ds seems to think end of March

MedSchoolRat · 07/03/2020 18:24

Offer from Queen Mary. AAA* not to include further maths.
Still waiting to hear from Imperial. DD reckons April to hear from them.

242Mummy · 07/03/2020 18:36

Wow! Offers are rolling in. Well done, all our DC!

speedyhedgehog · 09/03/2020 08:20

Congrats bellylaughs and medschoolrat. Great news.

Hattifatteners · 10/03/2020 10:13

It's great to see all the offers here. Congratulations! DS finally got an offer from Leicester this morning. Now it's the decision time.

Monkey2001 · 10/03/2020 12:36

@Hattifatteners - hurray! Are you/DS going to the offer holder days? We are going to Leicester on 4th April unless Corona Virus puts a stop to all public gatherings.

Also well done to Rat Junior.

Are there many still to come other than Imperial and Liverpool? Maybe Manchester not all done and @emummy DD may still be waiting for Aberdeen.

I am wondering whether any medicine applicants will be put off by the virus. There was somebody on TSR who said they would no longer consider HYMS when the first case was found in York!

Thank you Monkey. No offer holder days here. DS is most likely to reject Nottingham, but is not quite sure between UEA and Leicester. UEA has long time been the favourite (mine too :-)), but I guess it is an important decision to make. He is lucky to have the choice. I asked if the offer holder days would make the choice easier, but he said no.

Monkey2001 · 10/03/2020 13:39

Leicester is a funny one, it crept up on DS as a last minute choice. He loved the open day and they are great at communications (except for so many emails going to Spam). They sent a lovely golden ticket to people with achieved grades and are offering the iPad, £1,000 for his A level grades and voucher for stethoscope - they make you feel very wanted!

Aren't UEA and Leicester very different teaching styles? That could drive it. Of course wherever he goes it will be a great training.

OP posts:
Hattifatteners · 10/03/2020 14:11

UEA teaches very much PBL style and DS originally said that he wouldn't like that. However, during the open day it made a lot of sense and as we were there very early in the morning we got lots of attention from very friendly and welcoming members of staff. Until last week I thought it would be a clear winner as long as he would get an offer. Then he said he wasn't sure with Leicester. Leicester would make a great insurance offer as DS is doing four A-levels and if either Chemistry or Biology would drop below A, but got As in others, he would still meet their offer. I was aware of the iPad, didn't know about the stethoscope voucher.

sluj · 10/03/2020 18:19

UEA does use PBL but also has a lot of traditional teaching in there too. There are also substantial bursaries for students with EPQs in certain areas. Let me know if I can help with anything specific and I will ask DS. He was bowled over by the friendliness of the place. I can't even remember how many people wished him luck with his interview, even the lady in the canteen. The suit was a dead giveaway. One of the security team jumped in the back of the car to guide us to a "secret" parking space. 4 years and two DC later, it still feels very welcoming at UEA.

Hattifatteners · 10/03/2020 19:43

Thank you @sluj. That’s exactly the feeling we got from UEA when we visited an open day.

SirTobyBelch · 10/03/2020 20:53

UEA does use PBL but also has a lot of traditional teaching in there too.

This is true everywhere. There are no "pure" PBL medicine courses in the UK, nor any purely lecture-based ones so far as I'm aware. They all use a variety of teaching methods.

HostessTrolley · 11/03/2020 14:03

@MedSchoolRat apparently there’s a uni-wide policy at imperial that they need to send all offers out by the end of March so hopefully it shouldn’t be too much longer x

speedyhedgehog · 13/03/2020 19:42

Offer holder day cancelled for Kings next week. Not unsurprising but now dd has not visited 2 of the unis she is trying to decide on other than for interview. Had seemed all well and good to see where she got offers from, do the offer holder days for an in depth look and then choose. Hindsight is always 20/20 and all that. Back to lists and spreadsheets. Anyone reading this with medic dc at edinburgh, kings or birmingham?

Monkey2001 · 14/03/2020 00:12

Universities reacting in different ways. St Andrews is going to do theirs on line but Sheffield is currently going ahead. Saw a friend's DC tonight who is doing a master's at Swansea and he said that they have stopped all face-to-face teaching, but I think that does not include medical courses.

A friend's DD who is in her 5th year at Exeter is currently on her elective in Madagascar, F1 starts in August - that may be a bit of a baptism of fire!

OP posts:
speedyhedgehog · 14/03/2020 08:12

Gosh yes. Those starting f1 this autumn - words fail me. If we are like italy by then they will be walking into a nightmare. Hope and pray all the medical staff can stay well through all this.
