What a relief Days. There have been a lot of posts about universities deliberately holding back their offers until after 15th. When DD was at Durham a couple of weeks ago, she was the only one who had received an offer from Durham for her chosen subject. You can safely enjoy Christmas now.

Hoghgyni · 23/12/2019 21:09

Replace the first mention of Durham with Oxford & my post may make more sense. I'm driving tonight, so I can't even blame a Wine or Gin!

bpisok · 24/12/2019 09:44

This thread's title is incorrect thus far - instead of 'Decisions and revision' it should say 'Decisions and No Revision'.

...has anyone else's DC decided to put off revision, have a total break and then use their mocks to determine how much they already know?

WhoEatsPopTarts · 24/12/2019 09:44

We’re waiting for Bristol, which is DDs first choice. I don’t suppose we’ll hear anything until after Christmas, but she’s still checking hourly. She’s got an achievable ABB for her second choice, so not worried but she absolutely loved Bristol.

Ginfordinner · 24/12/2019 10:44

@Gatekeeper I wouldn't worry about Newcastle's party reputation. DD is there, and hates clubbing, but she socialises a lot. Constant partying is optional. Avoid Castle Leazes halls.

MillicentMartha · 24/12/2019 12:11

bpisok DS is actually doing a bit of gentle revision, when constantly reminded by me. No decisions yet, though! Grin So ‘revision no decisions!’

DS is deep into his PI for English Pre-U. Lots of Sylvia Plath discussions with me and anyone else who’ll listen.

Gatekeeper · 24/12/2019 16:47

thanks @Ginfordinner

I will stock up on wax earplugs for her as a precaution!

Oratory1 · 24/12/2019 17:06

DS has made a decision or two so good progress on that front. Unfortunately that hadn’t translated into starting the revision he needs to get there. I’ve decided not to nag until after Christmas as he s very tired and not 100% so probably neeeds a break but we ll see what happens on Friday.

FabTab · 24/12/2019 19:17

Has anyone had any odd LinkedIn views since there DC applied to uni? I’ve just been viewed by someone in education admin at Birmingham uni.

Ironoaks · 24/12/2019 19:59

I've not been on MN as much and didn't realise there was a new thread until today! DS received a Christmas card from one of his UCAS choices which he found quite amusing.

Ironoaks · 24/12/2019 20:00

He took two days off after the end of term for relaxation and has now started studying/revising again. Mocks are in February.

PBLR · 25/12/2019 13:58

Ucasmistake I would probably send email to UCAS just to check DC 1's form hasn't got lost or has not been processed properly- try UCAS first as no responses from anywhere suggests that the issue, if there is one might be at their end. Alternatively get DC 1 to email admissions at one if their choices and ask for a progress report. DC2 did this with his one choice that had not given an offer altho had invited him to OHD and that generated an offer the next morning. Good luck. Don't panic, ucas doesn't close til 15th Jan

Gatekeeper · 25/12/2019 16:19

Prob not the right thread to post on but is anyone absolutely dreading their dd/ds leaving for uni? Just realising this is the last proper family Christmas and I'm sitting on the loo crying my eyes out. I will miss her SO much

MillicentMartha · 25/12/2019 16:38

Don’t worry Gatekeeper they’ll be back for 3-4 weeks over Christmas. Terms are short and holidays are long. You get 3 years to get used to them not being around all the time before they really leave to get a job. Xmas Smile

Gatekeeper it really isn't as bad as you think. DD has had a term at university and DH and I are enjoying being able to be more flexible. You can be proud of yourself that you have raised an individual to independent adulthood.

You need to be able to let go.

AChickenCalledDaal · 25/12/2019 21:14

Gatekeeper yes I am. Had a bit of a wobble earlier when we hadn't have time to do something that we always do at Christmas and then I remembered it was the last "normal" Christmas. But DD will of course be home way before Christmas day next year and I hope we'll be able to have fun working out a new way of doing things.

Gatekeeper · 26/12/2019 10:26

thank you...I have post viral blues and feel really low at the moment which doesn't help

Hoghgyni · 26/12/2019 10:47

I reminded DD that next year she will be visiting, so she should only expect the token spare box of biscuits we keep wrapped in case of emergency rather than the pile of loot she dived into at the foot of our bed!

AChickenCalledDaal · 26/12/2019 12:58

I find myself wondering how much longer she would expect a stocking on Christmas morning. But to be honest I enjoy doing stockings so much I'm pretty sure there will still be one of those for a few years yet!

Hoghgyni · 26/12/2019 13:27

My MiL insisted on doing me a stocking alongside those for her DC from when we first met. I think DD will expect one from us forever.

mimbleandlittlemy · 26/12/2019 13:27

Thrilled to say mocks were before Christmas in our house so there is a great deal of battery recharging. DS gets results as soon as he gets back the parents evening the following week. I am expecting teacherly boots up the backside especially as he came home in tears from one mock. We'll see.

Hoghgyni · 26/12/2019 13:29

Oh dear mimble. Remind him that mocks are designed to show you what you still need to do.

MillicentMartha · 26/12/2019 15:27

I’m still doing stockings for 22, 20 and 17yo. I even have to fill a wall hanging fabric advent calendar with pockets for DS3 who ‘doesn’t like chocolate!’

OP posts:
FabTab · 26/12/2019 16:09

DS doesn’t have mocks until March and isn’t doing any work although is trying to argue doing Lego improves the mind. Hmmmm
