Still waiting for a final decision before DD can make a final decision on her insurance place. The hard work will start after half term. She's in Berlin this week, then having fun for a few days before she officially becomes an adult and has the weight of the world resting on her shoulders.

Oratory1 · 14/02/2020 07:36

Similar here Ironoaks in that we are fortunate that Uni choice done and dusted, mocks done and some big extracurricular events done so now for some R&R and revision planning over half term. I don’t think DS is looking forward to the thought of serious revision for the next three months though.

MillicentMartha · 14/02/2020 09:57

DS won't be doing much work over this half term. The last proper rest up before end of exams. He was planning revision proper starting at Easter, though they are starting to do some in lessons as the courses are coming to an end.

Yes I think I may get agreement to making a plan or a maths paper if I’m lucky but not expecting any more than that

Oratory1 · 14/02/2020 11:08

I had considered going away somewhere as Christmas, Easter and May half term were ruled out but he s probably better off just chilling for a few days (otherwise known as gaming)

KingscoteStaff · 14/02/2020 13:20

DS has headed off for a week's cricket tour.

How proud I was that when his bag was over weight he took out his spare cricket bat and left in his hefty folder of Politics notes!

Hoghgyni · 14/02/2020 13:27

Result Kingscote!

oneteen · 14/02/2020 15:12

@KingscoteStaff - Well done to your DS.

We thought about going away for a few days but DD has bits and bobs slotted in all week now (Dentist/Car Service/Offer Holder day at Warwick) etc. A group of them are trying to book a girly party holiday in Ibiza between last exam and Prom which isn't going smoothly...should be interesting what finally gets booked.

DuckyMcDuck · 14/02/2020 16:32

DS's interim report come through and he's well on target for his predicted grades - phew!

He's also off to Warwick on Wed but I'm hoping he'll have a restful week before it gets serious next half term.

(Have had to namechange but been on the thread for a while).

Snozzlemaid · 14/02/2020 18:14

We're going away for a few days from Sunday. I'm hoping dd can have a break from all the work for a few days.
She's booked a holiday with friends to Benidorm once exams are all over. Took a while for them all to agree on what they wanted but they got there in the end.

Looking for some advice really. - DS has offers from 5 unis. One has been rejected but the others are all still possibles. It's for engineering.
Derby have given an unconditional but DS doesn't think the city is lively enough ( currently his trips to the pub involve one pint before walking home by 10pm?)
All others have given achievable options including UEA, Sheffield Hallam, Portsmouth.
He is only interested in Sheff H. We would really like him to consider UEA from the Open Day but getting to the Offer holders day has proved impossible ( both of us working, him not keen enough to go on his own).
Should we just go with his choice or encourage him to go to OHD's before making final choices?

I would also look carefully at what type of engineering each uni specialises in and how closely that aligns with your DS interests.

But ultimately he will be living in that town or city for 3 or 4 years do it has to be somewhere he will enjoy.

aibutohavethisusername · 16/02/2020 20:14

DD is off to York on Tuesday & Wednesday for an offer holder day. She is looking forward to having a hotel room to herself.

PBLR · 16/02/2020 20:43

Thanks Hugo and Error.. I will suggest those things as it may help him to get a perspective and feel that it's still his decision. He's keen on Sheffield as DD1 is there at the UoS and his grandma and aunt are around and give practical support to DD1 which DD2 obviously finds attractive but the employability stuff is important and needs considering. TY

FabTab · 16/02/2020 20:44

@aibu we’re off to York on Wednesday too. Hopefully your DD and my DS will find it useful.

HesMyLobster · 17/02/2020 01:24

We had DD's final parents evening this week. DD is our youngest so it was the last one ever ever! I surprised myself by getting a bit emotional when the realisation hit.

We're off on our half-term offer holder day road trip over half term - spending a couple of days each in Leeds and Birmingham so that DD can make her final choice between them.

She went to both open days by herself, so I'm looking forward to seeing them and she's looking forward to showing me around (and dragging me and my wallet around the shops too I bet! Grin)

Cafeconleche · 17/02/2020 14:36

PBLR I would definitely encourage your DS to go to as many OH days as possible. My DS has had 5 offers for history (Manchester, UEA, Nottingham, Birmingham and Sussex) and is visiting them all (even tho he’s already been to the UEA open day) At the moment it’s Manchester or UEA, but he’s keeping an open mind. His is a 4 year course with a year in the States, and, as will all universities these days, a helluva lot of money. I said to him you wouldn’t buy a car without test-driving it first - or a house without visiting it first, for that matter. Even if all it does is confirm that he’s made the right choice with wherever he ends up, I do think it’s worthwhile.

oneofthegiantsisme · 18/02/2020 12:02

Huge relief here - the interviews clearly went OK last week, as DS had offers in from both York & Exeter by the end of the week. He's inclining towards Exeter at the moment, but not definitely decided yet - and he's got a while to ponder.

St Andrews finally came through with a rejection, but that wasn't a big surprise, as it was a bit ambitious. So that's now all 5 unis responded, one way or the other. Decisions, decisions...

FabTab · 18/02/2020 12:26

Great news about York and Exeter @oneofthegiants
What was the York interview like? My DS has his tomorrow!

aibutohavethisusername · 18/02/2020 13:18

Great news oneofthegiantsisme my DD is on her way to York at the moment and we go to Exeter next month. No interviews thankfully. I’d prefer her to choose those two as her other options are both London and I’m worried about the expense.

MillicentMartha · 18/02/2020 13:40

Good to hear offers still coming through. Offer holder day at Nottingham tomorrow. I will be wearing my MN scarf. Wink

DS received a personalised guide to student life from Manchester Uni today! Or at least the front cover has his name on it in big white letters. Grin

DS has his theory driving test on Thursday so all go.

The year that DD was 'doing the rounds', UEA sent a personalised open day guide. Which she then forgot to pack, so it didn't get a airing on the day itself.

MillicentMartha · 18/02/2020 16:40

I was more impressed by the letter he received from Birmingham inviting him to an offer holder day, that referenced the content of his PS.
