Oneteen, might need to double check with each hotel as we tried to book him a room on Travelodge in York for open day, he was 17 and we were told strict company policy no under 18's unaccompanied

oneteen · 04/12/2019 19:18

Oh right, that's interesting because my DD stayed in the County Hall, London Travelodge OK and it states on the website 16 years old to book and stay...

oneteen · 04/12/2019 19:23

Just rechecked and there looks to be conflicting information..but my DD and her two friends definitely stayed in a room in London without any older adult and the oldest girl was 17.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/12/2019 19:26

I'm just having a nosy on this thread, as DD is already on her first year at York studying History. I'm surprised to see the lower offers on here that have been given. Last year they were asking for A A A or A A B for history as a standard offer. DD did get the A, A, B and got in, but on the day they were offering A B B in clearing, which is the offer that some on this thread have been made straight off.
The lower requirements wouldn't have meant she worked less, but would have taken the pressure off.

If anyone is wondering, she's enjoying York, and - apart from the strikes which means she is home 2 weeks before term finishes as all her lectures are cancelled - it all seems to be run quite well.

thesunwillout · 04/12/2019 19:31

DD just got offers from Cardiff and Brighton today.
So that's those, Liverpool and Bath spa now.

The week we've had it's amazing for her morale.
So happy.

SirB0bby · 04/12/2019 19:50

DS originally applied last year. He submitted his application after Christmas and got all 5 offers. Sadly he didnt get the grades for his first choice of Nottingham so accepted his insurance place at Plymouth, which he deferred. He announced a few weeks ago that he fancied Cardiff so he went to look and has subsequently withdrawn from his deferred place and is in the process of submitting a new application to Cardiff. Its been quite a journey!

oneteen · 04/12/2019 20:10

Well done @thesunwillnot DD so glad it's lifted her spirits- has she finished mocks now?

Good to hear how your DD is doing at York...DD still waiting to hear back from York (Biomed).

@SirBobby - Uni choices are quite tough when they are just 17/18 hope your DS gets the offer he would like from Cardiff.

aibutohavethisusername · 04/12/2019 20:14

MillicentMartha yes DD is 18. September birthday and is staying in a Premier Inn.

user1497207191 · 04/12/2019 20:21

DS got his first offer today, a real surprise. An unconditional from Newcastle for Maths (usually AAB).

SirB0bby · 04/12/2019 20:47

Thanks @oneteen He checked they'd accept him before he withdrew from Plymouth so it's just a case of getting his application submitted.

oneteen · 04/12/2019 21:00

Well done to your DS @user1497207191 nice to have a UC offer.

suze28 · 04/12/2019 21:23

DD1 has now heard back from 4 of the 5 she applied to with a second unconditional, this one if firmed. She needs to decide between the two which were her top two choices anyway.

MillicentMartha · 04/12/2019 23:52

Wow, user1497 an unconditional for maths! Amazing!

Lots of news over here, many congratulations to all the dc, particularly to thesunwillnot and user1497.

DS had a good day yesterday ,recieved his 4th offer from Imperial for Maths and also an interview invitation from the place beginning with O. He will need to go to Imperial and Warwick offer holder days to make a firm choice on his Plan B and is in the very fortunate position of having a reduced offer from Bath as his insurance. I have one very happy boy in the house.

MillicentMartha · 05/12/2019 11:54

What a fabulous set of options, HuaShan! Will Bath be his insurance whatever happens?

FrenchyQ · 05/12/2019 11:55

My daughters college finally finalised her application yesterday (daughter finished her part and paid on the 12th October). So now it's just a waiting game!

HuaShan · 05/12/2019 12:03

Yes I think so MillicentMartha although he hasn't actually been to an open day! He likes the course at Bath better than Nottingham on paper so we have booked an offer holder day in April. Currently Imperial offer is slightly lower than Warwick - but it will break the bank!

Snozzlemaid · 05/12/2019 12:36

Dd's has her 4th offer today, from Exeter. ABC but if she obtains the standard offer of AAB and becomes an Exeter senior scholar (which she's almost done, just some online work to do in January) she'll get a scholarship of £1500 for her first year!
She's delighted as this is her favourite.
Just waiting for an offer from Bath now.

MillicentMartha · 05/12/2019 14:12

Gosh, Frenchy that was a bit inefficient of them. DS2's college was similar. We met their early Nov deadline and his form didn't go off until 15th Jan! They were very laid back about it as he'd already met the requirements for his course, but he needed to get student finance and hence disabled student allowance assessments into gear.

Good news, Snozzlemaid!

Thankyou Huashan and oneteen

Great news and best of luck to everyone's ds and dd's.

DD has the rest of her mocks next week x1, and the last week x1 exams.
Not the most relaxing build up to the Xmas hols.
We've got snow forecast and live rurally so who knows.

MillicentMartha · 05/12/2019 20:47

DS is just now back from his interview at Manchester. He enjoyed it. Buffet was good! 1:1 interview went well. He met up with DS1 briefly before getting his train home. Only a 20 minute delay at Birmingham New Street. Hmm

It’s all a marketing ploy really, like a compulsory offer holder day. They told him he’d get an offer through by Monday.

MillicentMartha
Glad it went well and he had a good day.

sandybayley · 05/12/2019 22:51

@MillicentMartha - I'm a bit irritated by the Manchester approach. DS1 went and we were happy to find his travel but it sounds like it was an unnecessary journey and expense. I hope they offer to reimburse expenses for anytime who needs it.

oneteen · 05/12/2019 22:54

Glad your DS had a good day @MillicentMartha. Would he be tempted to go to Manchester or again would he avoid the city because his big brother is working there?

Snozzlemaid - that's a nice incentive.

All quiet here...

FrenchyQ · 06/12/2019 05:07

Daughter had her first offer from Bangor, a DDM, she was surprised how quick that came through (just over 24hrs since application went),
She's hoping the others are as quick!
