Hi tudor. Cardiff was DS's first offer and also AAB but for maths. It's his 5th choice but the only one that isn't AAA or equivalent, so it may end up being his reluctant insurance. I really liked Cardiff, however. I lived in Roath for a year just after graduating for my first job and it was great!

Thanks, MillicentMartha. I think this will be my DS's insurance offer too (hope they are flexible if a grade is dropped!)

Looked at the complete university guide for DDs subject - score of 77 for Edinburgh but 91 for Glasgow and 93 for StA. Methodology below. Does take into account postgrad studies but is based on 2016-2017. Would be fine if the difference is explained by kids who don't need to work and have gone off on a gap year (decade). Do you think this could be case for Edinburgh?

Graduate Prospects (maximum score 100.0)
What is it?

A measure of the success in employability of a university's first degree graduates.

Where does it come from?

HESA data for 2016–17.

How does it work?

The number of graduates who take up employment or further study divided by the total number of graduates with a known destination expressed as a percentage. Only employment in an area that normally recruits graduates was included. The results were then adjusted to take account of the subject mix at the university.

What should you look out for?

A relatively low score on this measure does not mean that many graduates were unemployed. It may be that some had low-level jobs such as shop assistants, which do not normally recruit graduates. Some universities recruit a high proportion of local students and so if they are located in an area where graduate jobs are hard to come by this can depress the outcome.

3rd offer in for DS - AAA at Bristol. He was hoping for a grade down from the standard, but no luck.

I guess its the same old news from me ...I don't think DD's App has been sent today there was a mistake in the reference which referred to the wrong degree...takes probably 5 minutes to change but the school hasn't actually rushed any of this process.

KingscoteStaff · 21/11/2019 21:26

Bristol application is for Philosophy and Politics.

MillicentMartha · 21/11/2019 21:51

Gosh, oneteen how frustrating.

Congrats, Kingscote. If it’s any consolation all DS3’s offers have been standard.

No contextual possibilities at all - but his first 2 offers were considerably below standard, so I guess he thought his luck might hold!

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 21/11/2019 23:36

I know I am being unreasonable but I am getting a little impatient with DS's school.

He sent his UCAS form to the head of sixth form for final approval over 5 weeks ago now and it still hasn't been signed off.

DS is getting a bit anxious as all of his friends have at least two offers so that is probably making it worse.

At least I know they havent lost his application as yesterday they requested proof of his attendance on two residential extra curricular courses that he completed. The school where sent copies of his attendance certificates for each course in April and July from the course providers but had apparently misplaced them.

Que frantic search for his copies that where not in the family file but had in fact fallen down the back of his drawers in his bedroom Confused

Sostenueto · 21/11/2019 23:52

Dgd has 2 offers neither of which have been reduced or contextualised even if firm although she ticks boxes for a contextual offer. We put it down to her very high predicted grades which are higher than they ask for.

oneteen · 22/11/2019 00:34

@SunburstsOrMarbleHalls - I totally feel your pain.

I actually said to DD before she had her meeting today, if they have not amended one thing on her reference (a change that was discussed weeks ago) to just let it go and in the scheme of things, it wasn't important ...BUT her degree course was actually wrong so she couldn't let it go.

My frustration is that the DOS leaves the school in under 4 weeks, the HOS is standing down (the pair of them could not organize a P up is Brewery - they are both incredibly ineffective (hence 6th form numbers are falling). Thankfully the majority of DD's teachers are very good -although that has not been without issues too.

HesMyLobster · 22/11/2019 13:22

Gosh @oneteen I can't believe she's still waiting, it must be extremely frustrating.
I know technically they have until January but even DD's mediocre comp like to get them all sent by December so that the DC can focus on revision for mocks in January.
Is it a state or independent school?

DD has all 5 offers in now. One was at the lower end of the standard scale but they are all at the advertised standard offer, no reductions.
I think it depends on subject - nobody DD knows applying for her subject has had any reduced offers. The same subject as your DGD @Sostenueto so that would make sense.

oneteen · 22/11/2019 14:21

@HesMyLobster - It's an Independent ...they obviously did not make the change yesterday and I'm pretty sure it will be next week before the application goes...It's just a shame DD's old form tutor retired because she was very much in favour of getting applications off quickly.

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 22/11/2019 16:15

At last DS's application has been approved and sent to UCAS. Fingers crossed he gets some offers before Christmas to boost his confidence.

oneteen · 22/11/2019 16:43

@SunburstsOrMarbleHalls - Great news, hope he hears back on offers soon.

MillicentMartha · 22/11/2019 16:50

Glad one of you at least has had success with getting your form off.
oneteen, I’m angry with your school, goodness knows how you are feeling!?

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 22/11/2019 17:06

Thanks MillicentMartha

oneteen hopefully your DD will have her application forwarded within the next few days. I think DS's school got fed up of him going to the office every day this week to ask if it was done yet. I told him to politely pester them and it seems to have done the trick.

mimbleandlittlemy · 22/11/2019 18:35

DS finally got an interview date for Manchester but not until end of January so he has a bit of a wait for them. Friend's daughter had an interview at Manchester yesterday and was given an offer there and then but for her predicted grades which are high - I think she was hoping they'd put a B in there but they haven't. DS hoping that doesn't happen to him as his predicted grades are higher than the standard course offer for his subject at Manchester so that would be an absolute shocker!

So only Warwick to hear from in any way, shape or form.

oneteen · 22/11/2019 18:51

It's like a comedy of errors with DD's application - The application hasn't gone yet and it won't go until next week. Unfortunately, DD's "little" meeting was with the DHT because the HT was away at a conference had it been the HT I think she would have just amended the reference...but DHT has only been in his position 6 months and hasn't probably done "the little chat" before!

I'm disappointed but at the same time, I know there are only certain battles you fight with the school and I promised DD I would not interfere.

Thankfully it doesn't seem to have any negative effects on DD and she just got top marks (20% above the rest of the class) in the recent topic tests (warranting the A* prediction she had to fight for).

tudorbuff · 22/11/2019 20:13

Sorr to hear about all those frustrated with delays in getting their applications in, it must be so annoying. In other news, my DS just got a second offer - for Nottingham. Doing Law, so means he must have passed his LNAT exam, hurrah!

MillicentMartha · 22/11/2019 20:27

Well done tudor’s DS. Will he get results of the LNAT?

OP posts:
tudorbuff · 22/11/2019 20:32

I think they get results of LNAT in February
