Previous thread and hope you don't mind that I set up the next thread @juicy0. Just did it to ensure that we carry on chatting seamlessly Wink

DD called last night and seems really happy and settled. She's been out less this week as they're all a bit tired and some are ill but is off out to a society social tonight.
One of her flatmates moved out yesterday so they currently have one empty room in their flat of 12. It seems there are still some spaces and a bit of movement so if anyone DC is really unhappy it may be worth investigating a move?
In other news she's applied to be a student ambassador and is enjoying her course, so far so good!

That's good she's enjoying herself. I think my son would like to move into nicer accommodation. He's made one good male friend in his flat. 8 are girls. One lad never comes out of his room and apparently the one from India goes on his own to parties in Norwich each evening.

@boys3 I sent DD some bits from amazon and didn't have that number and it got to her with no problem.

It says on the website you put name and course so I did "DDname HIS"
on the first line.

I will get that number though for future

Glad that your DD is settled @juicy0. DS seems to be doing his own thing. Not sure whether on his own or with others (as I've previously said he's quite secretive about friendships) but he sounds on good form. He had ventured into Norwich yesterday and got himself a Hollister hoodie from TKMaxx. No doubt will have had a 'fast food' treat too! Wondering if DS is like the 'stuck in his room' lad in your DS's flat @icanbewhatiwant!

Didn't bother with sending DS's parcel as he's coming home next weekend. Suspect he may have lots of dirty washing with him!

I put this question on the other thread. Is anyone else still waiting on student loan payment? There is a payment date of around 24th sept online (can't remember exact date) he hasn't received anything yet. I just called student finance knowing they won't speak to me about ds's loan. But I asked if they were behind or if there is a reason why ds wouldn't be paid. She did ask his ref number and for mine, but just said the university may not have confirmed that he's attending yet. So I thought I'd just ask if everyone else has had their payment.
He's coming home next weekend so he will have to phone when he's home. I know he can phone from there but I don't think he will.

@icanbewhatiwant Yes, my DS received his in the first week he was there

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/10/2019 12:10

Hi @icanbewhatiwant do you think the delay could be because of the change made to the amount your DS was due? DS definitely had his loan - went in on the 25 September. Sorry your DS is still waiting - possibly needs to make another phone-call to them?

Thanks for replies. We have had 2 paper letters confirming amounts. One on 19th and one 20th Sept. The second one is the higher amount. So they sorted amount out then. If you have all received yours then it can't be that the university hasn't confirmed his place. I will ask him to call, it's getting nearer to the date he needs to pay for accommodation and if there's a problem he won't get it in time. He has enough coming in to pay it himself.
I wonder what they are all doing with themselves on a day like today, it's rained hard so far. It's forecast all day too.

@icanbewhatiwant my DD has received her student loan too.
I would definitely get your DS to contact Student Finance ASAP, my eldest DD (who is attending another Uni) assumed her finance was all being sorted out as she hadn’t heard from them and only when she phoned them when things were getting desperate, they confirmed they needed some more info regarding my income. Luckily all sorted in the end but a few days of worry while we were waiting for an answer.

But we've had the paperwork confirming amounts. The dates are online. So I can't see that they need more information. Someone I'm on the other thread said it can say pending, which it doesn't. But yes, I'll tell him he has to call.

Did your DS update his bank account info (if he set up a student one after getting his A Level results) @icanbewhatiwant? Just asking because it's quite easy to forget to do it.

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 yes we went online and added the new account a while ago. Thanks.

Oh, it sounds as if he's going to have to phone SFE - what a PITA @icanbewhatiwant.

Yes, DD1's loan came though a while ago too.

She's still enjoying herself, although she was sniffling and sneezing last time I spoke to her, so the dreaded fresher's flu has struck.

I've never heard of colour catcher sheets. I just told DD1 to do coloured/dark stuff one week, and light stuff the next week. And to buy more knickers so she can go longer between washes!

She tells me she's coming home on 25th October, so I'm sending her details of the Megabus so she can book tickets. That gives me three weeks to sort out her bedroom (has swapped with DD2, so her room is upside down right now).

Apparently ds has already phoned student finance. He didn't tell me that when I asked yesterday if it was in his account. He didn't tell me why the delay, he just said it'll be in soon.
He also told me at 3pm today that he's just got up. All these late nights out are taking their toll.

@icanbewhatiwant a massive pain that the maintenance loan payment has been delayed. Great that your DS has been proactive. Hopefully it will be in his account within the next day or so.

Thanks @boys3 hopefully. I was reading on the other thread about sniffer dogs. Ds said they'd taken sniffer dogs in the flat opposite theirs looking for something.

Report
boys3 · 06/10/2019 22:53

sniffer dogs doesn't sound good news Shock. On the subject of dogs, "put the dog on" seems to be the first thing DS2 says when he has been in contact! Which is very confusing for the dog, not being able to fully verbalise her feelings nor understand why there is a DS2 voice but no DS2 in the room. :) The dog has however provoked lots of ooohs and ahhhhs from his flatmates. He did also go to something in the SU earlier in the week to meet some dogs - clearly benefits from his canine fix.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/10/2019 06:30

It sounds as if the DC are developing resilience and learning to sort out some of their own issues - re phoning up SFE (and DS has had to phone the bank to sort out his online security number) which is all good.

Sniffer dogs comment on the other thread rather horrified me and seems a very heavy handed approach.

just seen some of the weather pics from the overnight rain in Norfolk - hope all of you local to the county have not been badly impacted by it.

DS and the rest of the PESH dept are off on a 6 hour costal walk today, so I am hoping the weather is dryer that it has been. Not entirely sure of the purpose of the walk, other than more induction and a general theme that there are lots of ways to exercise. DS then has 2 hours of hockey training this evening, so he will sleep well tonight.

DS says he’s trying to make more of an effort with cooking and made it to Tesco at the weekend, he’s been doing some joint cooking in his flat, last night he sent us a photo of a ‘pot noodle pizza’ yes it was a pizza with a pot noodle covered in cheese on top Confused

Yes the flooded A47 not far from UEA made the main news. It's dry today south of Norwich. Though forecast rain late afternoon, so the field trip should be fairly dry. The 2 ponds outside our house had dried up, I'm pleased to say the ducks can now swim again rather than stand in their pond. It has been a dry summer. Not sure we needed all the rain at once though, we've had so much the past week or so.

That made me laugh...pot noodle pizza.

It sounds like the type of 'dish' that many students' dreams are made of. Mind you in my student days I used to love a chicken noodle soup sandwich on white bread (with lashings of butter). Most of the time I ate really healthily but that was pure indulgent comfort food. There's a time and a place!

DS seems to have avoided freshers' flu so far but it's early days.
