Cockroaches Shock

@SisterPurification that’s horrible for your daughter, I suppose having 12 in a flat makes it harder to keep clean especially if it’s a bit of a party flat.
My DS hasn’t mentioned what it’s like in his flat (think he’s in an 8) but he’s not the tidiest person so he might not have noticed, but I don’t think he in a party flat so they aren’t all having pres in the kitchen.
My other DS (at a different uni) is very pleased that all in his flat are all clean and tidy in the kitchen especially as they don’t have cleaners.
When we looked around some student told us that if the kitchen gets too messy the cleaners won’t clean it as they aren’t meant to clean the students crockery etc, just the actual kitchen.
I’d say your DD should speak to student services as they must have this problem all the time.

@Itscoldouthere yes in the accommodation booklet it says if there's dirty stuff out on worktops and washing up not done, the cleaners won't clean.

Imagine having 12 peoples dirty stuff all over the kitchen, horrible and these things just escalate if nobody takes control, I’m not surprised that the cleaners have that policy.
Hope student services help.

I guess the herd mentality means that once one flatmate starts being messy others will follow. Horrible for tidy ones though!

Thanks everyone. I've spoken to her today and told her to speak to somebody. The cleaners are cleaning (around the dirty dishes etc) but it gets filthy again straight afterwards because everyone in the flat is messy. Some of her flatmates think it's funny and see no correlation between mess and bugs but she's reluctant to speak to anyone from student services or accommodation as she doesn't want to get herself or her flatmates in trouble. Despite the messiness of her flatmates, she has become good friends with them all and is enjoying all the partying. I just hope they all calm down soon. She said she's going to speak to some of the more sensible ones later to discuss what to do.

Cockroaches Shock blimey

I have to say when I collected DS from his flat after lunch last Sunday I did wonder what the state of the shared kitchen would be after a week of twelve students cooking and eating in it, but I was very impressed - it was immaculate. All the washing up was done and neatly draining, and all the surfaces were spotless. I hope the messy culprits in your DD's flat sort it out soon @SisterPurification.

@NotSorry Did your ds find out about the laundry card yet? My ds said if he goes to the laundry there is a vending machine thing in there that you put money in and get a card out.

@MrsBartlet thanks, I will let him know

Ah @MrsBartlet I was coming on to say the same as asked DD about laundry cards.

Also re Reading Week-DD says she's not sure if she will come home as apparently lectures/seminars not sure which may still be happening so she wants to come home but we will see. She is doing History and Politics. Think it varies wildly by course.

Ahhh, shiny new thread!

DM took DD1 out for lunch yesterday - she wolfed down three courses. Grin DM told me how happy she seems; lots of stories about new friends and interesting times.

Regarding the laundry card, all I know is that you have to pay £3 cash for the first wash (and presumably for the card itself) but it can then be topped up online.

Ugh - cockroaches?! What building is your DD in, @SisterPurification ? I think she should report it. I'm sure it takes more than a few dirty dishes to create an infestation. My DD hasn't mentioned any mess problems, but there are only six of them in her flat, so I reckon it's easier to keep on top of it (or at least know who's left a mess).

New photos on the SU Facebook site!
No photos of DD but she did send me a photo at 1.30 in the morning of her and two of the guys from last years Love Island who were doing a visit.

She looked happy and healthy so all good.

Ds just sent me a photo of him with his flatmates at the first party. It was him with 6 girls. He said the boys don't go to the parties. He looked a bit uncomfortable in the photo. He's never found girls easy to get on with, hopefully he will get plenty of practice now!
He still isn't really telling me how he is. So I asked my step daughter to ask him. He told her everything was great. So hopefully that's all good news.
I said he will miss parties after the freshers events finish. But he told me they don't stop...they are every night all year round. Surely that's not true? If it is maybe the novelty will wear off.

Spoke to DS today - still hasn’t managed to get to the launderette but he did do a joint Tesco’s delivery with his flatmates so the delivery only cost him £1 and he also has the dreaded Fresher’s flu. Luckily I left him some lemsip, just in case

@NotSorry I hope ds isn't poorly for long. Mine messaged this morn to ask where I'd put the things to catch the colour from clothes. I didn't send any as I'd read somewhere that launderettes don't allow them. Plus I didn't think he'd use them. Now he's told me off because he has shirts with pale colours in. So he must be considering the launderette anyway.

NotSorry · 05/10/2019 14:14

Oh I sent colour catcher sheets, didn’t realise they can’t have them…?

icanbewhatiwant · 05/10/2019 15:46

@NotSorry I read somewhere on the other thread that some launderettes don't allow them in their machines. No idea if they can have them at UEA. I'll have to get ds some if they can have them. I'm sure someone said they can go in a bag in the machine.

Report
MrsBartlet · 05/10/2019 17:35

They are not allowed to use them at UEA. I sent ds with some and a laundry bag to use them in but there is a sign up in the laundrette saying they can't use them. I am sure it is because they are worried they will get stuck in the machines and cause problems but they don't if you use a laundry bag. Anyway ds is following the rules and not using them but is means doing more washes which is even more expensive if he has to separate out colours and whites.

icanbewhatiwant · 05/10/2019 18:33

Thanks @MrsBartlet I got a telling off from ds for not sending any. I have messaged to ask how he got on but he's not replying. But nothing unusual there!

Seems as if 1/2 of DS2's flat have headed off home for the weekend, however he went to some sort of club which seems to have lasted most of today, and along with the remnants of his flat is heading into Norwich later this evening.

Need to send him something from Amazon and need to use his id number as part of the address, or so he tells me. He has however sent me a 9 digit and a 15 digit number Confused, are any one you able to shed any light on what is needed?

icanbewhatiwant · 05/10/2019 20:00

@boys3 I sent my son stuff from amazon. I just put his flat number and Paston house (obviously followed by the rest of adders) that is what it said on the paperwork he was given on arrival.

Why did it send that lot twice? I added the last part about name onto a separate post.

icanbewhatiwant · 05/10/2019 20:09

Actually, I took a screen shot of the address. I've just looked at it. Above the address there is a 9 digit number. I didn't get the whole sheet of paper in photo so I don't know what the 9 digit number is. So you may be right. But he received his parcels anyway.
