3 A Levels for medicine when everyone else is doing 4

MoreNmore · 20/08/2019 13:01

DS is at a well-known grammar where 4 A levels is the norm for medicine applicants. He’s done his EPQ and is doing 3 sciences & maths A level. He wants to drop physics. School (strong on Oxbridge) say “because his peers are doing 4, his doing 3 will be seen as a less competitive application”. He’s getting good BMAT scores in practise but who knows on the day? He isn’t applying to Cambridge where l know many have taken 4 A levels. More interested in the London med schools. He’s emailed and asked and they just quote the standard “3 A levels required”. He doesn’t know his predicted grades yet but it’s more the risk of missing an offer together with the extra work load of the 4th A level that is bothering him. If many of his peers at school are doing 4 and he does 3 will admission a Tutor think “hmm despite going to X School he’s only take 3 A levels..”. His school have a huge cohort of medicine applicants every year.

Peace and 🥂. Before the stinky children reappear tomorrow. Grumpy, sun-kissed and stinking of weed. Yeah.

Zog14 · 25/08/2019 20:50

zanda wins the mystic meg cup Grin

goodbyestranger · 25/08/2019 22:51

I mean you really really don't win Zanda, not at all. I said I was going to mow the lawn and was leaving titchy to it. If you read the words properly you'll see I was off outside for a while, not making any declaration that I was quitting a thread. So yeah, read properly before before being too smart. Anyhow, definitely nothing to win there (by contrast incidentally, mumsneedwine said 'Bye' several pages ago then nipped back in pretty smartish). I think the schoolgirl ganging up possibly makes people look silly, but I'm made of stern stuff!

Yes Cleowhatnot. No apology whatsoever I note. That's not great from a doctor (I think you're a doctor?). And as to your question, bpisok is absolutely correct - you're way out of order. Honestly, some people have no boundaries at all. In fact I think my DC have turned out ok and will all be fairly useful to society, so I'm fine with having had eight. They're all fab.

goodbyestranger · 25/08/2019 23:09

Anyhow I'll leave you to it - lawn mowing calls after four weeks in Scotland with family.... big time.

So Zanda a quick check back reveals me at 11.31 saying I'll leave titchy to it while I shoot off and mow the lawn and I then don't reappear until 19.35 while I drink my well earned wine after eight hours of gardening. Whereas mumsneedwine said 'Bye all' in a wholly different, leaving the thread type way at 16.26 on the 23rd but was back in a blink at 18.38 (only two hours later!). I also see that you Zanda wrongly declared for yourself at 19.44 (19.44! Nine minutes after my returning post! I feel very guilty about you lying in wait all those hours, just for a Pyrrhic victory! Surely you had better things to occupy yourself for all those hours while I was topping up my tan! Dear me. Poor old Zanda)

titchy · 25/08/2019 23:11

Grin Someone REALLY wants the last word!

goodbyestranger · 25/08/2019 23:13

Apologies for more rubbish typing: Whereas mumsneedwine said Bye all in a wholly different way, leaving the thread at 16.26 but was back in a blink at 18.38 (only two hours later!).

goodbyestranger · 25/08/2019 23:14

Well why leave it titchy? Zanda fell flat on her face :)

TapasForTwo · 25/08/2019 23:27

Goodbyestranger you really are a difficult person to please! I meant it kindly. Of course, I wasn't telling you what you can and cannot do.
Can't you see that?

mumsneedwine · 26/08/2019 07:58

I am sure all our lovely kids are amazing. Off shortly to try and find one of mine. Text saying Rick Astley turned up last night and no one has had any sleep. I'm hoping these things are not connected 🥴.

Bye for now 😎.

ZandathePanda · 26/08/2019 08:24

More (the OP) if you nip back your thread you started and think !?!!?!? I would recommend ProfessorLaytons eloquent
post on p.9. Thoughtful and useful.

Hoghgyni · 26/08/2019 08:46

If the Daily Mail take a look at this thread, there will be a Ricky Astley Kiddy Fiddler headline in tomorrow's paper. Although he must be in the Dolly Parton Legend category now. How many A levels do we think he took & would he have got through BMAT?

ZandathePanda · 26/08/2019 08:49

MoreNmore ProfessorLayton1’s post is roughly 21 posts back Grin.

Hugo thanks - I never knew posters were literally all on different pages too. Grin Hope everyone’s children come back without sunburn/diseases from these festivals! And commiserations for any parent who is the designated driver for them on the way back!

mumsneedwine · 26/08/2019 08:52

Having just spoken to child I think she's morphed into Barry White. Think some singing may have been going on. That or she's developed a 40 a day habit.
I think we should all agree to disagree and go enjoy the sunshine.

mumsneedwine · 26/08/2019 08:57

And I think Rick Astley would've made a fine doctor. He's never going to give you up, let you down or desert you. Never going to make you cry either.
I've sent husband to retrieve child and friends.

ZandathePanda · 26/08/2019 09:04

mumsneedwine excellent advice and excellent choice made that your Dh picks them up. An experience my Dh won’t forget in a hurry!

goodbyestranger · 26/08/2019 09:32

Quair very sorry and cheers. I just jumped straight to the conclusion that you were part of the school girl gang!

mumsneedwine · 26/08/2019 09:37

I've never been in a gang ! Ooh and a school girl one too - was never a popular at school. Please don't start the childish comments again - thought we'd agreed to not do that.

Anyway Barry White on way home. Am expecting a bit of a high from the rucksack judging by the smell of Richfield Ave when I dropped her off.

goodbyestranger · 26/08/2019 09:55

It wasn't even childish mumsneedwine - read the thread! I'm just explaining to Quair why I misread was was intended kindly rather than the opposite.

mumsneedwine · 26/08/2019 09:57

'School girl gang' ? Maybe that's a compliment I really don't care.

goodbyestranger · 26/08/2019 10:09

It's just a descriptive mumsneedwine, very definitely not something to care about! My father always told us not to think too much, it wouldn't end well :)

TapasForTwo · 26/08/2019 10:27

Not sure when DD will appear. As a volunteer I expect she is clearing up this morning. She thought it might this evening. As far as I know they are catching buses and trains back, but I may have to pick her up from town as our trains are only hourly.
