I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

@MrsBartlet DD hasn't mentioned anything about paying for accommodation. Have we missed an email?

I was about to ask the same thing - we haven't had an invoice or anything for accommodation yet, have we? I understand we can pay monthly, so want to set up the payments.

MrsBartlet · 13/09/2019 15:31

No don't panic! I have registered as the person that they should send the bills to rather than sending them to ds. Someone mentioned it upthread that we could do this. We did it on evision. When you get it onto it it gives you options of how you want to pay (ie how many instalments) but I haven't made any payments yet.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/09/2019 15:31

Thanks for the heads up about more info to come from UEA accommodation @sluj

I reckon the accommodation invoices will go live when they pick up their keys next weekend, then there will be 28 days in which to pay. DS has just looked at his account via e-vision and it's not showing any money as due yet!

NotSorry · 13/09/2019 15:33

finally got an answer today that DS ISN'T supposed to have chosen any optional modules - been on a shopping trip to get final bits - will break to DH when he gets home how much we spent Grin

CointreauVersial · 13/09/2019 15:41

What is Evision and how do you access it?? DD1 doesn't have a clue.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 13/09/2019 15:46

Hi @CointreauVersial, once your DD has registered she can log in to the UEA student and staff e-vision portal. That's where she will have had to log in to upload her photo. If she looks a the tabs there is a 'finance' one - she needs to click on that to check if any money is owed yet (but I suspect not). I am wondering whether all those who are having to pay deposits and money up front before they arrive are living in privately run uni halls?

CointreauVersial · 13/09/2019 16:49

Ah, I see. She's already logged in and uploaded her photo.

The links to timetables and tuturs don't seem to go anywhere - I guess that info hasn't been uploaded.

icanbewhatiwant · 13/09/2019 16:59

We can see a timetable for biology. But there's not a lot on there. I think it's showing as 2 days with no lectures. Ds has scrolled down to Oct/nov and still the same. I wonder whether they add stuff on at a later date.

NotSorry · 13/09/2019 18:01

The email we got from the economics department today indicated freshers timetables would be available at some stage next week

icanbewhatiwant · 13/09/2019 18:44

Ds does have a timetable with several lectures some days. Almost always with the same person and 2 days with none. It's a week by week timetable so he can scroll through each week and times vary. I just didn't think he'd have 2 free days. If it stays that way then he may as well commute next year.

Itscoldouthere · 14/09/2019 00:04

@icanbewhatiwant my DS is doing Biology as well, I haven’t seen the timetable (as DS has been away and had uploaded his photo so isn’t fully registered yet), but does the timetable have lab time on it? Maybe that’s what they do in those 2 days.
I also think living away from home is really important but that’s only my view, which I know not everyone shares.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/09/2019 07:14

I think living away and becoming independent is as much what going to university is about as getting one's degree. But agree that it's one's own choice It would certainly be lots cheaper living at home...

Can anyone tell me what the accommodation emails say about arriving next weekend, please? DS hasn't received his yet. Suspect they are sending them out in batches and as with his registration one, his seemed to be one of the last to be send out, based on what you were all reporting (it was sent at 3am!)

@CointreauVersial, I suspect some departments are probably quicker off the mark than others with uploading timetables.

No personal tutor details available yet for DS - anyone else?

NotSorry · 14/09/2019 07:23

Yes DS has his personal tutor - appeared in last couple of days - I’ll try and get hold of the email about arrival when he gets up (could be a long wait 😂)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/09/2019 07:44

Thanks @NotSorry. DS's has probably arrived during the sleeping hours, so I may get a positive report soon.

Still finding DS like a slippery eel and difficult to get any information out of him.

BTW on an entirely different note, I'm looking forward to the timbre of the 'Adsense' ads I'm seeing changing. I'm getting a bit fed up with seeing loads of university course promotional ones when DS is no longer in the zone (and thankfully we have a relatively long break before we're back in UCAS mode with DD).

NotSorry · 14/09/2019 07:48

On another note here - where on earth do I get these longer fitted sheets? He also needs it a bit deeper as he wants to take his mattress topper - help!

MarchingFrogs · 14/09/2019 07:56

where on earth do I get these longer fitted sheets?

IKEA do some of their range in continental sizes, e.g.
www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/dvala-fitted-sheet-white-00357226/

An alternative (assuming single-width bed) is to wrap a flat double sheet round firmly and not worry about tucking top and bottom in.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/09/2019 08:02

@Itscoldouthere no lab time on the timetable so that must need adding then.

Yes we think living there is important too. Ds knows several people from school going and most are commuting. But we had a long discussion, ds said he wanted to experience university life and living away from home. We also know a few that have commuted and then after a couple of months moved in as they found the commute tiring (via public transport)
Ds doesn't have long to make the decision whether to find somewhere to live or commute the following years. I think he will live in Norwich.

@NotSorry I have just bought normal single fitted sheets. Deep ones. I know people have said ikea do the continental size sheets. But I can only see white online. We don't have a store nearby. I hope ours fit.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/09/2019 08:06

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 the email just says about arriving 10am - 4pm (I think without re reading) it also tells you which car park to park in depending where they are staying. Park while key collecting then you'll be directed where to take the car to unload. It says unload and re park back at the car park to free up the spaces for others to unload. Fairly obvious really.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/09/2019 08:14

Thanks for the update on what the emails says @icanbewhatiwant. We are doing the journey on the coach so those instructions won't apply anyway. Just hoping its not a long walk from where we're dropped off to the Ziggs. DS will have to hoof it up to the Sports place to get his key, leaving a parent (not decided who is going yet) with all the luggage.

Did suggest to DS that he reach out to his school buddies who are also going to UEA to ask if anyone would have space in their car to be able to take anything for him (like the pillows!). DS reckoned that was too direct a question???!!!! Hoping his time there teaches him to be more assertive!

icanbewhatiwant · 14/09/2019 08:40

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 can you vacuum pack the pillows? Still be as heavy but at least smaller. I'd want my ds to ask his mates if there was a gap in the car. Well...if we were asked we'd do it and offer to take the person and parent asking too.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/09/2019 11:06

I just suggested ds look on the student loan page to view progress and put in bank details. There it says evidence required before we can proceed. He hadn't signed in to view it since we did it several weeks ago. So no idea we needed to send evidence off. It didn't say anything at the time.
So now a delay for finance. She said possibly another 6 weeks.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/09/2019 11:43

I put she said. That's because I phoned to ask what evidence is needed. I was worried we needed a proof letter to go with evidence. She said to send birth certificate or passport. I don't really want to post off the passport. So birth certificate just been posted off.

boys3 · 14/09/2019 11:49

DS2 has confirmed that he has received the email about arrival days, but said nothing in it to concern me just the transport provider after all, why would I need to know anything Hmm So thanks for the insight ican

He clearly does know a lot more than he is letting on , whether he has his full timetable yet I'm not sure, but certainly has the department one for the opening week as he volunteered that over dinner last night. also a few more detail on his flatmates, ten declared so far, interesting at least seven of the others, like him, appear to have taken a gap year. Looks like a 70:30 female:male split so far, that may change a bit once the final two in the flat are known.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/09/2019 11:56

Yes boys same here...7 girls 3 boys.
