I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

Suspect all the missing flatmates are male. I tried again (and failed) to get DS to sign up to his FB group. He wasn't having any of it

Not sure there are any details as to how to the bank transfers for the accommodation as yet? That info might be triggered when they pick up their keys next weekend.

MarchingFrogs · 14/09/2019 15:00

www.gov.uk/apply-for-student-finance/proof-of-identity

Neither DS1 nor DD were asked for their actual passport, just the number.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/09/2019 15:06

@MarchingFrogs we weren't asked when we applied. We were waiting for an email or something. Haven't heard a thing. Ds logged in to add bank details and it said application cannot be continued until we send in proof of ID.
I'm annoyed we didn't know. As now the loan is held up for longer.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/09/2019 15:15

Is that something that the DCs would have completed in their section @MarchingFrogs? I'm in a panic now. I know DS logged in a week or so ago to check when maintenance payments would be made (and there were three dates), so can I assume this is something that's already done and dusted.

CointreauVersial · 14/09/2019 16:20

@icanbewhatiwant - we didn't have to post off any ID for Student Finance - just upload details of passport etc. Ours is definitely good to go.

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 - don't assume the ones who haven't checked into FB group chat yet are male - DD1 only got around to accessing hers a couple of days ago.

She's doing her last Costa shift today.....she's worked there for two years, so I think she'll be sad to go.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/09/2019 16:34

@CointreauVersial I phoned up and asked what needs sending and she said passport or birth certificate. I told her we had no idea as not been told to send stuff in. I haven't heard of anyone sending stuff in either.

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 I'm sure yours is fine as we haven't been told anything about payments or what he will get. There was just a message saying to send in documents.

CharliesMouse · 14/09/2019 22:25

DS had to send his birth certificate as part of his finance application @icanbewhatiwant as his passport had expired. He also had to get his application form countersigned by someone who had known him at least two years. I don't think this would have been necessary if he'd had a valid passport. The good news is it came back very quickly, within a few days I think, and I think he got email confirmation his application was approved even sooner.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/09/2019 22:38

@CharliesMouse yes I asked about getting it counter signed but she didn't ask for that. I'd heard of someone else doing that. Ds's passport was out of date but we have a new one now. There was no way to edit passport number in. I told the person on the phone we now have passport.
I hope they don't ask for a letter next.

A friend applied 2 weeks after us and all completed already.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/09/2019 22:42

I just looked at the link above from @MarchingFrogs it has a form to fill in to send with the passport. With a part for someone to sign.

The lady on the phone said to send ds's birth certificate with a cover letter telling us his application number. It sounds like the lady may have told us wrong.

We aren't doing very well are we.

boys3 · 14/09/2019 23:26

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 if your DS entered his passport number then that should be that and just a case of formally registering at UEA to get the first payment triggered. As far as accommodation payment goes DS2 let me know that he's received something / there is something within e-vision (?) asking whether he intends to pay the full year, termly or monthly. Monthly has its appeals but for simplicity and to tie in with student loan payments, albeit someway less than accommodation costs, my advice to him was termly.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/09/2019 08:31

Thanks for feedback @boys3 - just getting into a panic about nothing. DS isn't the most forthcoming, so even though I try to make it my business to ensure that he's on top of everything he needs to be, I am always concerned we've missed something vital. Wouldn't really want to find that we are suddenly having to additionally sub him for his term's accommodation cost at this stage.

Yes, DS elected to pay accommodation termly, but no sign of payment amount or prompt to pay as yet on e-vision.

DS has worked out who four of the five UEA students-to-be from his school are, but the fifth one is a mystery currently.

DS starting to get excited - it will be a glorious welcome to UEA (and Norwich) if the weather stays like this next weekend!

icanbewhatiwant · 15/09/2019 09:43

I can't decide whether to phone student finance again to ask if I was given incorrect info yesterday or just wait and see what they say next.

Yes it's been lovely weather this weekend. It's showing as 22 degrees next weekend and we aren't that far from Norwich.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/09/2019 10:18

I would phone again for your own peace of mind @icanbewhatiwant. Annoying though if you've been misinformed. Anything to do with money seems to cause multiple contacts and misinformation when it should be the reverse.

icanbewhatiwant · 15/09/2019 10:20

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 yes I could call. They wanted to speak to ds yesterday to confirm who he was then they were happy to speak to me. He's out most of the day today. Then working all week during office hours. So need to find a good time.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/09/2019 10:31

Nothing is ever straightforward is it, @icanbewhatiwant? Are SFE open over the weekends?

NotSorry · 15/09/2019 10:37

I believe they are open at the weekend and I would call too - I’m going to call them next week as it’s still showing DSs original university and not UEA (clearing) we updated it on 16th August and I want to make sure they have the information

1 week to go!

icanbewhatiwant · 15/09/2019 10:45

Yes I have phoned. They couldn't discuss ds as he's not here and it's confidential. Fair enough. She was happy to tell me what forms we need, yes, wrong info given out yesterday. A form should have been printed as @MarchingFrogs said yesterday (provided link too, thanks) but...as ds now has a valid passport there is a form to fill in, to add passport details to an application. That's a lot simpler and why didn't the lady I spoke to yesterday tell me that? Never mind. Form filled in ds just needs to sign it. We will post it tomorrow.

Numbersarefun · 15/09/2019 14:12

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 which Ziggs is DS in? If Norfolk Terrace then the coach stop is relatively near. If Suffolk Terrace, then a bit further, but not miles. (Assuming you are coming by National Express.)

MarchingFrogs · 15/09/2019 15:42

Is that something that the DCs would have completed in their section @MarchingFrogs**?

Sorry, out most of yesterday with DD, as it was her19th birthday. Yes, she confirmed that entering her passport number - or whatever alternative - was just one of the things asked for in the process (she said she thought a response was required before continuing, but can't really remember). I can't think why the applicant's proof of ID would be part of anything other than the applicant's section, given that s/he is the only person whose details are required? (DH and I had no input at all into DD's application because we had already calculated that her loan would not be increased as a result of our 'support').

Itscoldouthere · 16/09/2019 09:37

I dropped DS1 at Bournemouth yesterday, he accommodation is lovely, he was the last in to his flat of 6 and the storage space left in the kitchen was tiny.
We went and did a big shop at local Asda, bought low storage boxes for under his bed and he’s put lots of tins/jars pasta rice etc under his bed which worked fine.
He took a small fan for his room which is a really good idea as the windows have opening limiters and it was hot in his room.
I shall buy a fan this week for DS2 incase it’s the same at UEA.
DS said they all played board games in his flat last night it’s a good mix 3 girls, 3 boys, a great start for him.

icanbewhatiwant · 16/09/2019 10:39

@Itscoldouthere yes I'm fairly sure there are window limiters at UEA I noticed them on some places when we looked round. It was a really hot day and so hot in the rooms. I was a bit worried about window limiters being a fire hazard. But I suppose the risk of someone falling out is greater. In ds's paperwork it also says if he leaves the room the windows must be closed at all times. So it'll be hot and stuffy. He has his window at home open all the time.

Itscoldouthere · 16/09/2019 11:03

I can’t imagine my D.C. will remember to close his window 😂
I haven’t seen the accommodation rules, I need to get up to speed, DS2 is not very communicative and my focus has been on DS1, so this week it’s all about sorting things for UEA.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 16/09/2019 11:54

One of the other rules for their accommodation is that they open their window to air their room for at least 30 mins each day. So they're kind of damned if they do and damned if they don't!

CointreauVersial · 16/09/2019 14:26

DD1 is in a ground floor flat, so we are very keen that there are window limiters/locks etc!

icanbewhatiwant · 16/09/2019 15:52

@CointreauVersial yes I can see why they need to close window and have limiters on ground floor. Ds has found out he's on 4th floor.
