I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 sorry, I pressed post too soon.
Thank you for the instructions, my DD is working until midnight but I'll get on to it with her in the morning and hope we can still do it after the deadline

Yes it worked...he's opened it on another browser. He's now almost registered.

@sluj sorry to be thick but how does ds join SU is it via Facebook.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 31/08/2019 14:23

13th of September @juicy0 so plenty of time yet :-)

juicy0 · 31/08/2019 14:46

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 oh sorry, my mistake!😂

www.uea.su/welcomefest/

Hi, here's the SU website. You just put things in the basket from there.

sluj · 31/08/2019 15:02

Successful shopping today. Matalan for duvet , pillows and plates. IKEA for kitchen stuff. Can you believe you can get a frying pan for £3.75 and a 16 piece cutlery set for the same.
Need to buy a duvet cover, oven gloves and expanding file for important paperwork then it's just food and toiletries Grin

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 16:37

Thanks for the link @sluj
IKEA sounds good. We don't have one around here. My nearest is actually Norwich. But I think it's a collection only one. I'm sure you can't look round.

CharliesMouse · 31/08/2019 17:29

You can buy a few bits and pieces and look around the rooms they have set up at the Norwich Ikea @icanbewhatiwant. I was in there yesterday buying a bath mat and duvet set for DS who finally decided at the eleventh hour that, yes he would commit to staying in student accommodation (Colman House, anyone else's DC been allocated there?). Although "you can still cancel within a few days" apparently. Internally I'm screaming "just make a decision and stick with it! Since results day he's changed his mind about going to his first choice uni, along with the course he was going to study, whether he was going to live in or not - and all at the very last minute. He is doing my head in.

He's also completely uncommunicative and I have no idea whether he's completed all the stuff he needs to do. I keep asking him to forward me emails that might be useful, like stuff he needs to bring and deadlines for payments but so far nothing. I've had a week off and could have done all the shopping and organising but now I'm going to have to squeeze everything into weekends and evenings. He has opened his student bank account though and just had to take in his UCAS offer letter and driving licence (no appointment needed) that was Lloyds, so that is one thing I know he has done for certain.

Aaargh!

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 19:03

@CharliesMouse thanks. I've not been in Norwich IKEA. I tend to go in on the train. We are only 20 mins away by train. Yes we are Colman house too. PH18H.

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 19:03

Forgot to add flats 11-20 not quite sure how the numbers work.

CharliesMouse · 31/08/2019 19:13

Ah, Norwich Ikea isn't very convenient to get to by train then. I've found it handy to order stuff in store and collect it to avoid the delivery fee, but only the small stuff as I've only got a small car. Annoyingly you have to order in store to avoid the delivery charge, but it's quite handy for me so it's not much bother.

I'm not sure of DS's room number but I thought he said it started CH which I assumed was for Colman House.....?

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 19:17

Yes you are right. Paston house here. I'm cracking up. It's been a bad day Smile

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 19:51

Does anyone know what the numbers mean? PH is obviously Paston house. It looks like flat 18 room H
But what is flats 11-20? I guess we will find out in 3 weeks! We were wondering what floor he's on.

GoldenRuby · 31/08/2019 21:01

@icanbewhatiwant could it be the block entrance?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 01/09/2019 07:55

Anyone get an idea of how long it would take to walk into Norwich city centre from the campus? Just been reading about fitness and thinking that DS should aim to do at least one return journey a week on foot!

icanbewhatiwant · 01/09/2019 08:19

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 I'd say a good 45 min walk. It says 58 mins on google. I know I saw on UEA website it's a 15 min bike ride.

juicy0 · 01/09/2019 09:01

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 yes I'd say 45 mins at a good pace but if you pick the right route it's a pleasant walk. There are also nice walks on campus around the Lake and within Eaton and Earlham parks nearby.

OP posts:
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 01/09/2019 10:05

Thanks @icanbewhatiwant and @juicy0 - that's an okay length of walk to do.

NotSorry · 01/09/2019 11:36

Anyone know if there is capacity under the bed for storage?

icanbewhatiwant · 01/09/2019 11:58

@NotSorry we viewed the video for en suite campus and he said there was storage under the bed. You could watch your video.

NotSorry · 01/09/2019 12:03

Thanks, yes it does mention that on the video - we did watch last week, but i have so much stuff in my head I didn’t remember

MrsBartlet · 01/09/2019 12:58

Ds didn't buy a wristband for freshers week so I need to make sure he orders some tickets tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up!

We have been to Ikea this morning and lost count of the number of parents we saw wandering round with an 18 year old Smile

NotSorry · 01/09/2019 15:16

my DS didn't either - I asked him and asked him and he didn't decide

I couldn't face IKEA so I bought the kitchen and bedroom pack from my student essentials

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 01/09/2019 15:56

@icanbewhatiwant good to hear that another browser solved the problem :-)

It looks as if it's the girls who get organised with everything, with most boys needing constant chivying!

icanbewhatiwant · 01/09/2019 16:25

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 yes...it seems all the girls have joined the Facebook chat too. The boys aren't joining. Unless ds is only in with one other boy and 6 girls. I hope not. Though it might be cleaner with girls (she says hoping, I don't have girls but I'm assuming they are tidier)
