I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

thanks all for the info on Norwich IKEA, whilst I realise its not a full size one, DS2 is particularly partial to IKEA meatballs - and more importantly quite capable of cooking them. Having a local source is excellent news.

icanbewhatiwant · 01/09/2019 18:07

IKEA sell meatballs?

MarchingFrogs · 01/09/2019 18:25

IKEA sell meatballs?

Assuming that that is a serious question - yes, they do. In three different varieties these days (or rather, a choice of two for the Frogs household unless DS1 is home, since only a hardcore vegetarian could love the veggie ones, in the opinion of the test of us). In the cafe and to bring home from the frozen foods section of the Sweden Shop. I have acquired several surplus coolbags from occasions when I have driven 20-odd miles to our nearest branch, spent hours traipsing around the Home bits, only to find that I have forgotten that essential itemShock.

icanbewhatiwant · 01/09/2019 19:02

Yes...serious question. I thought it was a typo to start with. I obviously lead a sheltered life!

sluj · 01/09/2019 19:16

My 2 X DSs only agreed to come on Saturday provided they could have 20 meatballs each. I had to bring frozen ones back too Grin

icanbewhatiwant · 01/09/2019 19:19

Gosh...honestlyI had no idea IKEA had food. I've never been in an IKEA. My youngest does have IKEA white furniture I bought second hand from Facebook. As I said upthread Norwich is my nearest store. But I was told by a friend it was collection only. So never been.

sluj · 01/09/2019 19:47

DS has been trying to choose the maths module for Geography but there is no choose option, only read the details. He has no timetable or assigned tutor yet either. Any ideas please?

CharliesMouse · 01/09/2019 19:54

I can confirm that Norwich Ikea has a small cafe and sells a limited amount of packaged food to take away although I can't confirm they sell the meatballs. Next time I pop in I will check!

CharliesMouse · 01/09/2019 19:59

@sluj my DS claims to have no timetable, tutor or module options yet either (computer science) but I've no idea whether he's done everything he should have done with regards to registering etc. I'm fed up with nagging him. It's not doing either of our stress levels any good.

icanbewhatiwant · 01/09/2019 20:03

Ds is biology and says he doesn't have to choose modules for that. No idea if he's correct. No timetable or anything yet. He will be trying to purchase freshers tickets in the morning before he goes to work.

MarchingFrogs · 01/09/2019 20:11

@icanbewhatiwant, I can safely say that you haven't lived if you have never had an IKEA meatball. Plus the cream sauce and lingonberry jam. And mashed potatoes (although I must admit, we usually have the chips in the cafe, and sometimes, at home, potato cakes from the shop).

MarchingFrogs · 01/09/2019 20:13

If the Biology degree is accredited, there may be no optional modules in first year.

icanbewhatiwant · 01/09/2019 20:28

@MarchingFrogs thanks. They say we learn something new every day...I now know IKEA sell food and meatballs.

juicy0 · 01/09/2019 20:46

@sluj DD selected her optional module this afternoon, only one for her BA geog course.
We used the video guide here:
portal.uea.ac.uk/learning-and-teaching/students/modules-and-courses/module-enrolment
She doesn't have a timetable yet.

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 posted this earlier in the thread to help me:

module selection had to be done by the 13. Link to <a class="break-all" href="http://go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=portal.uea.ac.uk/documents/6207125/13535254/ENV+Maths+module+choice+for+Sept+2019.pdf/8e4a0f7d-6edd-79d5-fd78-456c34d176bf" target="_blank">module page. To actually register get your DC to log in to evision, then click on 'student' option (top left-hand side of screen), then look for the module enrolment block (midway down the right-hand side). Hope that helps.

We used NewModelArmyMayhem18's very helpful instructions but he didnt have a module enrolment block on there. If it's not there tomorrow I'll get him to email.
He does seem to have got access to the free Microsoft suite though. Even then there was no English timeline to choose!

CointreauVersial · 01/09/2019 22:22

I don't think DD1 has to chose any modules - she's doing Psychology, and I believe there are no options until Year 2. At least I hope there aren't, because she still hasn't competed registration - held up by the need for the flippin' passport photo!

We have at least done a shopping list and sorted out some kitchen stuff and bedding for her to take. Off to Ikea later in the week to fill in the gaps (there is one 30 minutes away, and I always go in the evening after work when it's quieter - with a quick pitstop for meatballs, of course!).

Interesting to hear the wristbands for Freshers have sold out - she's glad she got that sorted. She will have to work out where to collect them from, though....

Just checking - regarding the dropoff - we have just been told "Saturday", with accommodation office open from 10am (iirc). Assume this means we can turn up anytime that day....or has anyone been given a specific timeslot?

boys3 · 01/09/2019 23:07

cointreau it does appear to be anytime between 10:00 and 17:00 on the given day. DS2 scheduled for the Sunday. He has not sorted the photo on the registration yet, although seemed to think he should be able to use his phone for it. No modules to select for Yr 1 either. He's found his subject FB page useful.

NotSorry · 02/09/2019 05:03

I just took a photo of DS on my phone standing in front of light coloured plain wall - cropped it in and they accepted it

icanbewhatiwant · 02/09/2019 07:33

Yes same here with photo, I took one with his phone. Only thing was...it was on its side when he put it on the screen, he tried to turn it and it wouldn't turn. It's funny reading about the girls having to do their make up first. We don't have to worry with boys.

icanbewhatiwant · 02/09/2019 07:46

Ds is up and in the shower early so he can get online to buy freshers tickets. I thought he'd stay in bed longer as he's been having to leave for work at 7.15am. The tickets aren't for sale till 9am. It's only 7.45!

GoldenRuby · 02/09/2019 08:00

Well done mini-Icanbewhatiwant!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 02/09/2019 08:03

At least he sounds keen @icanbewhatiwant. DS still in bed as I type.

juicy0 · 02/09/2019 08:04

@icanbewhatiwant our DC can still surprise us! Good luck with the tickets 🤞🏼
