I've never done this before but hopefully I have managed to set up a new thread for UEA specific posts.
Perhaps someone can let me know if it's worked!

Thank you for asking the question @sluj I was thinking of doing the same.

This is what the UEA SU said in relation to the Welcome Ball dress code-

Hi! There's no specific dress code for the Welcome Ball, some people will come a bit more dressed up and some will wear casual clothes, whatever suits you!! Hope this helps - Will

DS1 confirms its mostly jeans.

Check the individual schools though as some of them do have formal dinners, especially Law and Medicine. Also there are formal chairman's dinners etc associated with several of the sports teams. More likely at Christmas or the end of the summer term though.

NotSorry · 29/08/2019 12:49

phew! registration, SFE and accommodation all updated

accommodation code PH06L - no idea what that means

CointreauVersial · 29/08/2019 13:14

@NotSorry - that would be Paston House, Flat 6, Room L....judging by our code.

CointreauVersial · 29/08/2019 13:15

Where did you all find the info about bed sizes?

icanbewhatiwant · 29/08/2019 13:18

@CointreauVersial on the UEA website accommodation it says bed sizes.
@NotSorry I think my ds is flat 18 but I'm may be completely wrong. I'll ask him later.

icanbewhatiwant · 29/08/2019 13:20

@NotSorry I can see ds forwarded email. It says PH18H flat11-21
Not the same as your ds. Not sure what the numbers all mean.

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 09:00

We aren't doing very well. Ds has been working 7am till 9.30pm. They are really busy at work. He's been off weekends so far. But he's been asked to go in today.
He still can't complete registration. He's had an email from UEA telling him to call them between 8am and 4pm. Or go into the university in person over this weekend. I phoned the number they gave and explained he's working. They said he can go in tomorrow and get help as long as it's nothing to do with password setting. They said if it is to do with passwords ds needs to call them with the laptop in front of him.
So I asked ds this morn. He said it is the setting password page that it is locking up on. So he needs to call them during working hours.
I got shouted at by ds this morn. that he can't take time off. Work are too busy.
He also won't take time off to go to HSBC to show his ID.
I'm going to insist he stays home Monday morn and calls UEA at 8am. His work aren't going to fire him...they are far too busy to be a staff member down.
Why are teenagers so stubborn?

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 09:05

That should say he can phone 8am-4pm Monday to Friday (he's at work 😩)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 31/08/2019 09:18

Just a thought @icanbewhatiwant, have you/your DS tried using a different browser?

Just to flag up that week 1 wristbands are now sold out, although apparently tickets to the individual events will be on sale from this coming Monday (9am).

For those whose DC are doing Geography, am I correct in thinking that they only have to choose from the maths modules on offer currently? No sign of a timetable or any recommended reading as yet either.

sluj · 31/08/2019 09:28

Geography- DS says he doesn't have to choose any modules yet (but I need to check that). I think there is no choice over maths, it depends on your current maths levels. I'd be interested to hear if he has that wrong.
I know normal LCR nights sell out quickly so I should imagine week 2 events will go quickly when the rest of the students are back.

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 09:29

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 do you know if they can buy tickets to events on the day?

Yes it has been suggested that he try using something else other than google chrome to continue registration. He told me he's only got google chrome. He's in such a bad mood as he is working long hours, I can't reason with him at all. I just get yelled at. I walked out the room this morn as he just kept shouting at me.

Hopefully he won't be working tomorrow so I'll make sure he tries that.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 31/08/2019 09:31

@Sluj, yes the maths module is dependent on current level but still looks as if you have to commit your choice electronically.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 31/08/2019 09:37

It looks as if you can buy the tickets online from Monday @icanbewhatiwant but think they might all be sold out if one wait until one is physically there. Clearly some will be more popular than others. Trying to persuade DS to sign up for the Friday evening 'ball' - by the end of the first week, hopefully he will have started to bond with some people and may be in a mood to celebrate completing his first week!

I have issues with Google Chrome sometimes, so always default to using Internet Explorer (it usually does the trick). Could your DS try on another computer which does have alternative browsers perhaps?

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 09:47

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 I don't think he can order tickets without being registered. He's going to be so cross when he gets home from work.

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 09:49

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 yes I will tell him to try something else. He's got a pc and a laptop. His younger brother has an iPad. I'd be trying them all. But he's so stubborn.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 31/08/2019 10:12

That is so frustrating @icanbewhatiwant - for you and for him. Hope he manages to sort it out sooner rather than later.

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 10:45

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 I have just text him and told him to tell his boss that he's not coming in Monday morning until he has sorted out the registration. He text me back to say he's going to ask for Tuesday morning off. He's so stubborn he even has to suggest a different day to me!
I'll get him to try registering through something other than google chrome too. I have no idea how to do that as I have only google chrome on mine too. But I'm sure he will know how. But he is determined to not listen to my suggestions. Maybe that will work and won't need time off.
It'll all be my fault. He didn't see why he should work full time. All his mates have done nothing but enjoying themselves all summer. He's missed out on all different outings they've been on as they always go during the week when he's at work. I'm the mean parent making him work. My dh heard of a good job going. Ds applied and got the job. They employ students just for the summer. So it was ideal. Hopefully he can go back next summer too.

juicy0 · 31/08/2019 10:59

Mums of Geography students pls can you point me in the direction of where the module selection is. Is there a deadline? Thank you

sluj · 31/08/2019 11:13

You can order tickets but need to set up a SU registration, much easier x

icanbewhatiwant · 31/08/2019 11:14

Thanks @sluj

I'm currently wandering around Norwich in the sunshine and it's looking beautiful! Anything any of you want to see or know while I'm here?

@juicy0, module selection had to be done by the 13. Link to module page. To actually register get your DC to log in to evision, then click on 'student' option (top left-hand side of screen), then look for the module enrolment block (midway down the right-hand side). Hope that helps.

I can imagine that Norwich looks lovely today. We visited on a very sunny May day and it was totally beautiful. It might be less so in the middle of winter when the wind is howling through the city though!

juicy0 · 31/08/2019 14:16

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 had to be done by the 13th! Oops! Seems odd when lots of people haven't had their registration email yet
