Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

What a day! DD accepted into York but on a slightly different degree course. Took until 5pm to get confirmation though - time for 🍷

Decorhate · 15/08/2019 18:15

@Horsemad I remember your trials & tribulations with your ds. (I think my dd did A Levels the same year). How great to hear that things have worked out well for him.

mum2eim · 15/08/2019 18:17

DD went into the Durham website - info for new students - and there was a link there to accept place. She had to fill in ucas no, course no and name/dob. The ucas track didn’t seem to update but we thought they probably have loads of acceptance forms to go through. I don’t think she’s heard from her college yet though.

Horsemad · 15/08/2019 18:26

@Decorhate thanks, he was an absolute devil during Sixth Form, drove me to insanity almost! However, I survived to tell the tale! 😁

Benjispruce · 15/08/2019 18:30

mum the college was before results day, back in May I think.

Benjispruce · 15/08/2019 18:30

Feel for those of you who had to wait all day!

Benjispruce · 15/08/2019 18:31

Worried something tells me your DD will have a better time at ManchesterWink

Stellamboscha · 15/08/2019 18:45

Well done to all you parents (was me last year)
I am s 6th form tutor so was in today to work with pupils who had missed their grades and work thru options. Rollercoaster!
Your DC are so lucky to have you there supporting them (lots don't) so they will succeed wherever they decide to go.
Now... YOU deserve a drink!!!!!

notso · 15/08/2019 18:50

I'm new to thread and the whole university process.
What happens when they don't get their first choice, DD has missed out by a grade and they've said she had to wait until end of August. What happens with her insurance in the meantime?
DD is helpfully on holiday so only having garbled messages from her!

escape · 15/08/2019 18:53

The sun shone on us this morning as Track went live for us at about 7.25am. Thrilled to see DD's 1st choice confirmed. So glad that happened before we then went and got the results which truthfully were lower than hoped for. She is going to Dundee to do dual qualifying law and got in with an A* & 2 x C. One of the C's is being remarked on insistence of College as 2 marks off the B.

TapasForTwo · 15/08/2019 18:54

Did she get the grades for her insurance?
I'm sorry to ask this, but why on earth is she away for A level results?

AutumnCrow · 15/08/2019 19:00

Hi notso
Has your DD checked her UCAS track account? Are able to access it?

AutumnCrow · 15/08/2019 19:00

Are you able

Sorry for missing word!

Bumply · 15/08/2019 19:10

Mumsnet should set the Higher Education board so it doesn't have bold as an option.
It's very confusing trying to work out which As are A*

notso · 15/08/2019 19:11

Thanks @AutumnCrow I don't know if she's checked the ucas track. I certainly can't.

@TapasForTwo yes she got the grades for insurance but really wants first choice.
I know she's a goon to be away, but wouldn't listen. It's a mixture of work and friends availability, they are all already in university. DD started again after a bad experience at a supposedly excellent sixth form.

TapasForTwo · 15/08/2019 19:14

I think it must depend on what you are using. I have an Android phone and can put A* on my post without a problem. Same if I use my laptop (on phone at moment)

WorriedMutha · 15/08/2019 19:25

Benji, Methinks Manchester will be better for her also. She did once say that applying to Cambridge had been a vanity project that grew legs. We are happier parents with the way it worked out. DH went to Cambridge and he had misgivings+++. I am sure she is going to have a blast, and do a bit of work.

TravellingSpoon · 15/08/2019 19:27

Still waiting for DD's clearing place to be accepted. They have offered but I will feel a bit less anxious when it's confirmed. Luckily he won't need accommodation.

What a day for us all. Have broken our rhe chocolate and am planning a lovely long bath!

Loopytiles · 15/08/2019 19:30

Manchester is a fun city to be a student!

Clankboing · 15/08/2019 19:34

I asked UCAS on messenger whether we have to confirm the offer on UCAS. They answered the following: "If track displays that he holds an unconditional place" (which it did as he had got the right results) "with his firm choice university, he doesn't need to do anything via UCAS as this means he has secured his place. If there are any steps he needs to take directly with the university to confirm his registration there they'll be in touch with him directly." HTH.

ZandathePanda · 15/08/2019 19:58

Clank thanks for posting about that. I had a great urge to press a button that isn’t there to confirm.

Dunlurking · 15/08/2019 20:04

Just want to say thank you for all the support I've had on this thread today, and thanks to OP @NewModelArmyMayhem18. You all got me through a stressful morning of dd in clearing. She's had her York offer confirmed now. Good luck to everyone still sorting places out. And congratulations to those with confirmed places.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/08/2019 20:24

@Dunlurking great result for your DD - well done to her! What a difference a few hours makes!

Sorry I stepped out but we went out. DS got the thumbs down from Durham at 1pm and UEA confirmed. He is happy with the outcome. Not even entertaining the idea of looking at alternative Clearing options.

Wow it's been a bit of a rollercoaster type of day, hasn't it? Well done to everyone for navigating it. Hoping for good outcomes for those whose DS are still sorting out places through Clearing.

FWIW, DS attends a super-selective. Only 50% of results were As and As, so well down on previous years. Apparently number of highest grades at lowest since 2007. So to those whose DCs got all As/As they really did ace it!

NewModel - I’m glad your Dd is happy :) (& that Durham didn’t mess him around for ages).

It’s been completely insane - only two of dd’s extended friend group of 30 or so got their predicted grades (one to Sheffield one to Oxford).

Many did far far worse than expected - particularly in maths & sciences (no really surprise given the ongoing issues school have). Despite this the majority still got into their firm choices, some with tweaks (BSc rather than masters, joint honours not single etc). Notable acceptances with well dodge (to quote Dd) grades include Bath, Cardiff, Exeter (main campus & Penryn), Liverpool, Southampton, Glasgow, Kings, Birmingham, York.

I’m going to have one final chat with Dd about getting biol remarked but I don’t think she’ll go for it. Nothing (but pride!) to gain she thinks ... she’ll still have a C in physics & can’t imagine ever wanting to join a corporate graduate training type thing. I’m not sure. School have been rubbish - no advice offered.

Feel happier ... she’s had some emails from Southampton (feels more real) and seeing how many people have had bizarre results (Bath maths friend getting BCE etc) has made feel not so bad & ultimately she’s got where she was desperate to go :)

There must be some students somewhere doing really well but they aren’t at dd’s school!

She really needs to find some way of coping with exam nerves that doesn't mean she constantly under performing though.

FrameyMcFrame · 15/08/2019 20:45

Thank you everyone
Great support on here for everyone xxx
