Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

Have applied through the ucas clearing option which did come through live at 3pm. Now to wait foe the uni to accept it ( he has already spoken to them and they have offered with BBC).

So he is off to Derby to study Economics and Finance.

Well done to all the DC's who got what they wanted, and commiserations to those who missed out. It seems like so many missed out by such tight margins.

bizzey · 15/08/2019 16:13

Strength to those who need it right now ..and appologies for what i have to ask .

Does dshaveto confirm his offer or is it automatically accepted if he does nothing ?
He is still out and i dont know what is happening.
He said it is automatically accepted ??

bizzey · 15/08/2019 16:14

I dont agree with him !!

CharliesMouse · 15/08/2019 16:15

@Horsemad yes thank you - very good advice. I just need DS to communicate his thoughts with me now. I think he's a bit overwhelmed by everything.

Propertyfaux · 15/08/2019 16:18

DS1 had accepted his UC in May so today has been very quiet, he improved on predicted with AAB. Had his friend round who is distraught, she has been privately educated with extra tutoring especially around exams. She got BBB but really doesn’t see how she is going to cope without the tutors but not going to university is not an option. Had to just keep telling her she will be fine but her dad is checking clearing constantly for a “better” university that’s dropped it’s grades.

zxcv123 · 15/08/2019 16:22

bizzey - I don't think they need to do anything to accept. When we looked at DS' offer on UCAS track there was a button at the end which he almost pressed (!!!) which said "decline my offer". There wasn't one for "accept my offer".

I think they assume you want the place unless you reject them. However, I will endeavour to get DS to log onto Track again tomorrow so I can check this!

Mustbetimeforachange · 15/08/2019 16:23

Yes, it's automatic

Laniakea · 15/08/2019 16:26

bizzey I’ve been (repeatedly) asking Dd the same thing - & she is certain she doesn’t need to do anything. Her offer has changed to unconditional on track now.

Horsemad · 15/08/2019 16:32

@CharliesMouse I'm not a fan of gap years, if I'm honest and if it's a Maths degree, they are generally frowned upon. However, sometimes they can be a good thing, so the main thing to do is to explore all options. 🙂

Ultimately he needs to be happy with his choice and it can be very overwhelming. My DS2 appeared very 'Meh' when he got great results and his Firm choice last year.

It's a huge step for them, even if they're pretty confident people!

scarecrowhead · 15/08/2019 16:32

My ds had to confirm his

Horsemad · 15/08/2019 16:32

*2 years ago, not last year - how time flies!! 😁

Ingles2 · 15/08/2019 16:54

hey everyone :) congratulations to everyone, whatever your situation, for getting through the day...
We've had a really good one.. Ds2 got his firm choice of Physics at Durham which he worked unbelievably hard for..
but the surprise is that Ds1 made his offer and got his firm choice of Loughborough at resits. So if today hasn't been brilliant, please don't panic ... we were in this position last year, he was unmotivated, lazy and another one staying up all night gaming... here we are a year later, he's so much more mature, has a really lovely job in our local town where they've been amazing and I honestly think it was for the best. Now can't believe that I will have no children at home in 6 weeks!!!

Ingles2 · 15/08/2019 16:55

ds does need to confirm his place at Durham, but weirdly the link isn't working!

TapasForTwo · 15/08/2019 16:59

I'm so glad to see your update @Coleoptera. Well done to your DTs.

Well done and commiserations to everyone else.

Benjispruce · 15/08/2019 17:03

DD confirmed at Durham earlier, it took a few attempts.

Witchend · 15/08/2019 17:15

The acceptance link on the Durham email is broken, but you can get onto the right link via track according to dd.
I think it's just beginning to sink in for her, that she really is going. Off partying tonight with friends.

twosoups1972 · 15/08/2019 17:17

Well done to everyones's dc.

Mixed emotions here. Dd got a C in English which she is very upset with. However it is enough (along with DDD* BTEC) for her first uni choice - Birmingham (who made her offer unconditional only a few days ago weirdly). But she said all along she cared more about the grade than the uni offer and I just can't cheer her up. We've requested a remark just in case - apparently she was only 5 marks off a B (and Paper 2 which is worth 40% was nearly an A) so fingers crossed.

Benjispruce · 15/08/2019 17:24

Yes DD did it through UCAS.

Flyingarcher · 15/08/2019 17:25

DS got a Distinction star for his Performing Arts. Can't believe it!

Benjispruce · 15/08/2019 17:27

Ents try emailing the school. They might be in tomorrow though.

RedRec · 15/08/2019 17:38

Yet another one here (me!) not sure whether you actually have to confirm the flipping thing. My son got into his first choice uni (York) and his offer on Track says 'unconditional offer firmly accepted' although he didn't do anything to accept it. Also got his first choice accommodation, and has been able to accept that.
Reading this back it looks like I know the answer! But it is still gnawing away at me ( a bit like when you think you have left the iron on but haven't)

Benjispruce · 15/08/2019 17:40

I know what you mean. I keep checking with DD about accommodation but she says she doesn't have to do anything yet. I know I should leave it to her but.....

Flyingarcher · 15/08/2019 17:45

I think when they firmed their chosen uni then that means that they've accepted them and they only have to do something if they want to be released from that. Son firmed his first choice ages ago and they then reduced their offer to unconditional a couple of weeks ago. He has his accommodation all sorted as well.

Benjispruce · 15/08/2019 17:58

DD is at Durham and accepted in a college so it's just rooms to be allocated hence a bit slower I think.

WorriedMutha · 15/08/2019 18:10

DD missed out on her Cambridge place. She needed AAA but got ABB. Happy with her insurance at Manchester but a frantic morning of hanging on the phone and hitting redial as UCAS track hadn't updated and she was slightly shy of their offer of AAA.
