Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

So my son got AA (maths/FM), A history, A chemistry

That matches the overall offer from Warwick but they wanted A* in FM. He’s going to ring them. May also ring around for clearing just in case.

For someone that was considering dropping history at Christmas (to focus on maths) he did quite well in it :D

Sinn · 15/08/2019 10:27

I would get them remarked one at a time, starting with the one he's dropped the most marks in.

I've heard lots of people sending them all off and then one going up and one going down so grade not changing.

bizzey · 15/08/2019 10:28

MrKlaw famtastic results !
Can't believe Warwick have daid no ?

EachandEveryone · 15/08/2019 10:30

A B and C Children’s Nursing at Manchester. Over the moonSmile

MrKlaw · 15/08/2019 10:31

@Fibbsdottir that was quick! My son only just back from school. You’d think there would be another way rather than who is fastest on the buzzer for clearing?

Dunlurking · 15/08/2019 10:34

Thanks @MillicentMartha she rang and was told if she had a priority remark that meant she then met her offer she could ring and be given a clearing place. Not too impressed with the uni to be honest but we're going to get the 2 papers for her C subject remarked. She would have to find 7 extra marks to get the B. She has been offered a clearing place somewhere else but she doesn't want to go there and frankly is hysterical mostly because all the friends going to her first choice uni got in and she can't be celebrating with them. So at the moment it's a remark in the hope of getting into her first choice or a gap year travelling with thoughts of an apprenticeship somewhere. In view of her difficulties we always suspected going for an essay based degree could lead her into difficulties anyway so maybe a rethink is wise.

So sorry to hear about your DS Piggy. I've been following you on these threads since the start - intermittently posting and lurking. I actually came on this morning to see how he got on. What is his unconditional for - I can't remember? I remember he was interested in sports journalism, but can't remember if that was the course he went for in the end. Whatever the outcome he's very lucky to have a mum like you behind him - you've been so helpful and encouraging to everyone one on here I feel sure you'll find a way through and you'll back next year giving encouragement and advice to those in a similar position. GaraMedouar · 15/08/2019 10:36

@Fibbsdottir - if you go on Bath website it shows lots of courses in clearing, including Sports Science.

nokidshere · 15/08/2019 10:39

DS2 got his first choice at Northampton so all happy here.

DS1 is starting his second year at Southampton and loves it there.

FrameyMcFrame · 15/08/2019 10:39

Been on the clearing rollercoaster...

Dd missed Sheffield by 1 grade, they didn't take but her grades much higher than her 2nd choice.

She declined 2nd choice, went into clearing and immediately got a place at university of York SmileSmileSmile

Fibbsdottir · 15/08/2019 10:40

Yes, it does, but we've called three times and had the same message that there are no longer any courses in either clearing and adjustment

Shimy · 15/08/2019 10:41

@Piggywaspushed I forgot he had an unconditional. Do you think he might be inspired once he takes up his place and left home? You’re one person I wanted to be celebrating with today.

MrKlaw · 15/08/2019 10:42

@FrameyMcFrame did she check for a verbal acceptance from York before being released into clearing? My worry is how risky is the process if you have to drop your safety net before applying for a possibly unavailable alternative

Shimy · 15/08/2019 10:43

@FrameyMcFrame thats amazing Smile.

FrameyMcFrame · 15/08/2019 10:44

Dunlurking and Piggy, sending best wishes.

Also shocked that DD didn't get her 1st choice with one dropped grade.

We rang them and they were quite rude, didn't even put her through to the subject tutors...

Witchend · 15/08/2019 10:44

Dd got into her first choice. Durham. She's a bit shocked as she thought she wouldn't get in.

GaraMedouar · 15/08/2019 10:45

Gosh - sorry Fibbsdottir. I had been checking Bath as my son got in on slightly lower than his offered grade.

Fibbsdottir · 15/08/2019 10:45

Does anyone know how long you have until you need to confirm your place?

FrameyMcFrame · 15/08/2019 10:45

MrKlaw, yes the offer from York is now there in track, she has 24 hours to accept it.

FrameyMcFrame · 15/08/2019 10:48

Someone at school said Sheffield might drop their clearing grades later in the day.

Dunlurking · 15/08/2019 10:57

@FrameyMcFrame that's what happened to dd - it was Sheffield who declined her with 1 grade dropped - and were quite unhelpful on phone - simply saying if she went up a grade in a priority remark she would make her offer and could ring back and be given a place through clearing as she would have met her original offer of BBB. But, as I posted earlier, they had put UP the clearing grade to ABB on their clearing pages, no longer the BBB standard offer it was originally, so I really don't know what they are playing at. The poor student who originally answered the phone seemed quite taken aback that she hadn't been given the place with the one dropped grade.

Benjispruce · 15/08/2019 10:59

DD is 1 mark off top grades in all 3 subjects. School getting remarks. Luckily she got enough to get in to her first choice.

Benjispruce · 15/08/2019 11:06

Those who are a few marks off a grade- check with your school. Ours had a budget for remarks if within 3 of next grade. DD getting all 3 subjects done free.

Sinn · 15/08/2019 11:18

I know you'll probably all know but remarks can go down too. We had someone drop by 14 marks last year at school.

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2019 11:18

That's nice shimy, thanks.

I have no idea what his future holds. he doesn't have the chutzpah to change anything completely. I hope, to be honest, he finds a good role model at uni : whether that be a caring lecturer, a girlfriend to make him work or a good group of friends!
