DS has a prom at a hotel. No idea how he is getting there or what he is wearing!

LIZS · 03/07/2019 06:19

Yes the y11 prom was all about how extravagant they could be. This is , generally, more about how thrifty they can be to save money for alcohol , although a few are still money is no object. Weather forecast is less hot and dry, so at least their improbably high heels shouldn't sink!

Shimy · 03/07/2019 09:55

Liz that’s interesting. DS’s school doesn’t do yr 11 proms. Probably because they all joined in. Yr 9, so end of yr13 ball is the only one they’ve had.

TapasForTwo · 03/07/2019 10:04

Round here year 11 proms are OTT with ball gowns, hair, nails, overdone make up and "creative" ways of arriving at the venue. Year 13 proms are a much more grown up and less OTT affair, with much alcohol consumed. DD spent all of the following day in bed nursing a humungous hangover.

Thst said, DD's old school is the only school in the LA with a 6th form, and the 6th form college is too big to have a prom.

First exam result in. Dd took Grade 8 violin exam the day after her final A Level (French). Result is in - Distinction. Dd delighted as she had hardly ay time to practice .

ZandathePanda · 03/07/2019 13:38

Woooo first result! Well done to your Dd.

AnthonyCrowley · 03/07/2019 13:38

Dd's product design teacher has assured her she's likely to get a U for product design so we shall see.

Her photography teacher said the same for photography gcse and she got a B so I take it all with a pinch of salt.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 03/07/2019 13:49

Well done to your DD ElizabethBennetismybestfriend.

How are those DC awaiting imminent IB results feeling - they get their results on Saturday, am I right in thinking?

ifonly4 · 03/07/2019 15:03

Elizabeth My DD didn't want the pressure of doing a music exam alongside A levels, so well done to your DD, and a distinction is the icing on the cake. Did she take music for A level/IB?

Anthony, good to be realistic, but the teacher doesn't sound very encouraging. What was she original predicted?

New, yes IB results are due Saturday. The leavers at DD's school have their Ball the night before, so there's going to be a few sore tired heads trying to get their heads around results early in the morning.

Good luck to all those IB students. I'm sure them and their parents are feeling a bit apprehensive.

ElizabethBennetismybestfriend · 03/07/2019 15:09

Hi ifonly4. Yes she did take music A level but she isn't studying for a music degree, she is going to study psychology.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 03/07/2019 15:16

Oh, imagine getting results with a hangover. Poor things. Mind you it would probably take the edge of any disappointing results...

blametheparents · 03/07/2019 15:22

@ifonly4- They've got the morning to get over their hangovers - IB results are released from midday GMT on the 6th July!
Starting to get a little anxious now and I think DS is too. It'll be good to know what he has got.
They are all planning to go to 'Spoons on Saturday evening to (hopefully) celebrate!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 03/07/2019 15:43

Do any of your DC have an idea of whether they've done well/as expected/badly? And were they accurate with their GCSE grades? I really don't know with DS. Do you have a hunch yourselves?

LillianGish · 03/07/2019 16:09

French Bac results in on Friday - although apparently some markers have been on strike (so French) so there may be a delay. DD and her friends coming back from holiday specially to pick them up so hope she won't be disappointed.

Shimy · 03/07/2019 16:11

Good luck to those. Waiting for imminent IB results.

New - No idea here. Thank goodness his GCSEs were nothing like predicted.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 03/07/2019 16:34

Shimy better that way round than t'other. DS got fewer As/A*s at GCSE than predicted, so I am a bit concerned. Although he has really knuckled down and worked very consistently and hard all through Years 12 and 13 (which is more than could be said for Yrs 7-11!!). I think I'm very on the fence for Results Day, whereas with his GCSEs I had a hunch that he'd not done himself proud.

Yes, good luck to all those DC waiting on IB results. A bit frustrating that they then have to wait until 15 August to know whether they'll get their university places though.

They’re obviously ok if they hit the grades for their firm or insurance, but clearing might be another matter.
Also, for DS’s insurance he won’t be able to sort out any accommodation until after A level results are released.
Accommodation for his firm is organised though.
3 days to go ...

BringOnTheScience · 03/07/2019 18:27

Nervously awaiting Friday here. 6th form gives them each an appointment time to collect their results & discuss outcomes ... we have to wait until after 1pm!!!

DC1 has booked a full morning shift at work 6am to 12 so that they can't stew on it or be distracted by friends' news. They're calmer than I am. One subject really could be a make or break with anything from 2 to 5 in tests & mocks: they need a 5.

Montaguesmum · 04/07/2019 10:01

Hi other IB parents

Very jealous your school lets them get results tomorrow. Ours refuses and makes them wait till sat to do it on their own via the portal and then they can come in on Monday to discuss! One of the (many) reasons DD2 is leaving this school. Currently DD1 is sleeping as much as possible as her stress levels are super high and now it is getting to me. And yes waiting till the 15th of August to sort out insurance accommodation/clearing is also nerve wracking. Just hoping the firm comes through!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 04/07/2019 10:13

Montaguesmum welcome. Good luck to your DD1 too.

LIZS · 04/07/2019 10:15

Good luck to I.B candidates!

ifonly4 · 04/07/2019 10:21

Elizabeth my DD also did A level music, but decided not to apply to a Conservatorie or for a degree. If she gets into St Andrews, she can take it for two years alongside her degree subject though.

blame and bring good luck for Saturday

New DD was at a different school, got the grades predicted and in two cases one higher grade. I wasn't sure how things went at the time, but now she's saying they went ok , hopes for her firm but accepts her insurance. She needs AAA/AAB, there's a possibility she could scrap an A* in any subject but at the same time a high B in any subject, so just don't know how it'll got.

blametheparents · 04/07/2019 13:00

@Montaguesmum - DS is waiting til Saturday too. It’s always been the 6th July at his school and that’s fine.
Good luck to your DD - does she need a particular score for her course?
DS needs 38 points. Fingers crossed!

Montaguesmum · 04/07/2019 13:08

@blaemtheparents- she found out from friends at other schools that they are getting theirs and is a puddle as a result. It was bad enough to know that the IB coord and HE advisor know for 24 hours. Luckily her firm has said they won't be getting them till the 8th (which seems strange but at least it means track won't change first - she was dreading that outcome).

She needs a 42 and a 7 in a specific one of her HLs - 37 for her insurance (and a 6). Keeping all fingers crossed! Wishing you luck also!
